It was economical, great location and pretty cute!! I thought it was a nice touch, two chilled beers in the mini fridge with cold glasses even.
We actually thought it was well appointed and probably would stay again. However, I was disappointed that when I let them know there were long black hairs more than 10 on the bathroom floor not because I wanted anything compensated but because I wanted to bring it to their attention for something to pay attention to, I heard nothing, not a word, not even an “ I m sorry we missed that”
Yet they texted back about another matter, I was wondering about parking. Anyway, overall it was good for the price!! I would recommend

The room was overall in great shape and clean. The host provided additional items such as beach towels and chairs. Although there’s no kitchen, the host has a microwave and refrigerator. The room was honestly a perfect fit for what we were looking for. The location is absolutely ideal and within walking distance to so many fun places to check out. The little touches the host has throughout the room was very much appreciated.

This property is definitely the best price/location combo I found, and because of that I'm giving it 4 stars. You can tell the owners care about the place because they decorated it very nicely and provide lots of great amenities that are super useful. They've done great work with such a small space.
Now for the cons:
1) Attention to detail, especially with cleaning. Somehow a shoe that was partially hidden by the draping of the comforter by the side of the bed such wasn't found by the cleaner. Not sure how, I immediately tripped over it. The tub/shower could also have been cleaner.
2) Bugs. I didn't count this against the star rating because I realize it's Hawaii, and Kihei, and an old building, and you can't control the cleanliness of your neighbors, but there were definitely bugs.
3) There was no shampoo or conditioner provided, just a bar of soap.
4) There's no dead bolt. This felt unsafe.
5) The shower curtain liner was gross. Recommend replacing more regularly, or getting one that is patterned, not white.
6) The shower head is crazy low. If you're over 5' tall you're going to hate the shower. A new head that goes higher (like the kind that is also a handheld) is like $30 and easy to install and would make this sooooo much nicer for tall guys like me.
7) A curved shower curtain rod is cheap, easy to install, and would make the shower so much nicer.
8) The lights outside are always on and the curtain isn't very dark. A blackout curtain would be really nice.

If you dont have a car, this is a great location. Close to food, bars and beaches. Plenty of activities close by. It is a studio without a kitchen, but we planned on eating out most days anyways. They had boogie boards and beach gear at the studio. The owner communicated extremely well. I would highly recommend staying here.

I didn’t realize square footage was that small when I booked. If your gone all the time and don’t want to eat in the room then you’ll be fine. It has a pool and outdoor grills AND right across is the beach, in-line skating, and beautiful beaches. Don’t forget to try the Dole Whip at the ice shave places. Yum!

This studio room is perfect for anyone interested in having a comfy landing place while exploring all that Maui has to offer. The owner has placed great attention to detail: comfy bed, quality linens, even a bottle of wine in the fridge to celebrate our 30th anniversary!. We walked across the street and were able to see whales in the waterway. You are within walking distance to shops and restaurants. We enjoyed the Saltwater Deli, the 808 t-shirt shop (quality designs!), and Kihea Cafe. We would definitely stay here again!

We had the best time, the cabin was great but if you hate stairs this is not the cabin for you. Not as close the slopes as we were hoping but perfect for a large family. Deer life is very active and a hill for sledding. The driveway was steep so make sure to have four wheel drive. Not a lot of parking. The kitchen had all the goods you need for cooking. The heater works great. Wishing it had a hot tub. But over all great stay. We will be back

I loved not having to worry about a hotel key and doing a number code instead. The area was perfect for walking for food and entertainment and also short drives to beaches, but better yet we were just across the street! The host was wonderful and very responsive and I much enjoyed being able to try out using a boogie board for the first time. We would come back to Island surf in the future

This property was ideal for our week on Maui. It was close to the beach and restaurants. It was very clean and came with all the amenities that we required, including beach chairs and towels, snorkel gear, boogie boards and coolers. This place is perfect for a low budget Hawaiian vacation where your always on the go. We were able to utilize the beach stuff provided and walk down to the beach and use the grill by the pool to cook our own food. There were tons of walkable options for drinks and food in the area as well.

This is a simple place but has everything you need. Beach chairs, towels, and cooler were perfect for the beaches that are close for walking. The location is great for restaurants and bars nearby to enjoy.
Also fantastic communication from our host! I would definitely recommend this place for a simple place, especially for a short stay. If you are staying longer, you might want a lanai with a view, but if you want a clean well-equipped room at a reasonable price, this is the place for you.

This property was perfect for my solo trip to Lihei. It was so clean and exactly as pictured. The property owner, Ligia, was so nice and helpful. She even left me a complimentary bottle of wine and a guide to Maui which really helped me plan what I was going to do each day. The location of this property is perfect. So many restaurants and beaches within walking distance. I highly recommend this location!

Great location in the center of Kihei walking distance to FoodLand, coffee shops, restaurants, etc. Best of all, right across from the beach! Clean property and clean room. Very easy check in process, and we were happy to be welcomed with a bottle of wine. I would stay here again if it’s available for our next adults trip to Maui. For a couple or two people only as it is a room with a bathroom attached, no additional space for others.

You can find everything you need at walking distance groceries, restaurants, beaches, surfing rentals! It's a perfect size for a couple with small refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, silverware, beach chairs,towels, tv etc! If all you need is a clean quiet place to sleep in a great location next to the beach, then this is an excellent choice.
This studio is small and is what is advertised. Comfortable bed with good quality sheets and towels. No view, but just across the street from Kamala park.
Lots of eating places nearby. A grocery store is a couple of blocks away. Great swimming beaches (Kam 1, 2, and 3) are a 10 minute walk from the studio.
Great backpack beach chairs that can be worn as a backpack (Tommy Bahama) with an insulated pouch for drinks. Boogie boards are provided.
The Maui Revealed book provided was dispensable as we constantly used it to guide our exploring of the island.

We were over the moon happy with our accommodation! It was everything the pictures looked like and Ligia was so kind to add a fridge, dishes and extra towels. Being right across the street from the beach and walking distance to restaurants, bars and grocery shopping, we were right at home. We will no doubt-ably be back to stay at Island Surf again one day. Island Surf is not fancy, if that's what you're looking for, but we felt that Ligia's hospitality more than made up for it. In addition, it was a great value in the expensive venue which is Maui. The unit is a single bedroom with attached bath; there is a dorm fridge, microwave and coffee-maker in the bedroom closet, and all the dishes, silverware, and serving implements you could want. Ligia has thought of everything a Hawaiian traveler needs. She provided us new boogie boards, Tommy Bahama beach chairs, 4 generous-sized beach towels, a chilled bottle of wine on arrival, coffee for the entire stay, as well as some things you just didn't know you needed--until the need arose--like ziplock bags! The Maui Revealed guidebook she leaves in the room is AMAZINGLY DETAILED and VERY HELPFUL! The space is small, but adequate. The bed and the room temperature (air conditioning or open windows and fan) were comfortable. The building is directly across from the beach and close to multiple restaurants, bars and shops. Parking was always available in a designated lot. The TV was not working when we were there, but Ligia had a fix for it which we declined to avail ourselves of during our stay. (Who needs TV when you're in Hawaii?!?) Ligia showed up to clean the room just as we were leaving. We got so involved in complimenting her on her thoughtful provision of everything we needed for our stay, that we left behind a TSA lock and a treasured jacket in the closet. Lee was very responsive to our texts when we realized our mistake, and mailed the items back to us without prior reimbursement (which we provided later). The accommodations were simple but complete, and provided with heart! Thank you, Ligia!

Parking was convenient and the location is in the heart of Kihei, yet surprisingly quiet. We just finished a week stay at this lovely studio apartment. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The owner had boogie boards, an umbrella, beach chairs, beach towels, fridge, toaster, coffee maker, full set of dishes, cooler bag, TV w/ DVD player (bring a few) and much more. You have access to 2 BBQ's and a lounge/pool area as well. The building residents are friendly and walking to grocery (Food land, Times)/restaurants was a breeze. We enjoyed the Kalama Beach Park across the street for morning walks and watching surfers, sea turtles, whale breaching, gorgeous sunsets and local volleyball games. It is an easy walk to open markets (Kihei Market and Azeka Plaza) and farmers stands (Yee's Farm Market). The owner was accommodating and very committed to us enjoying our stay. If you have never been to Maui - South Kihei is the most enjoyable part of the island. Restaurant recommendations nearby: Fat Daddy's Smokehouse, The Dog & Duck Pub, Kihei Cafe and Moose MacGillicuddys. Close by: Scooter and Bicycle rentals, Surf shops, Tattoo Shops, Salons, Nightlife (if that's your thing) but it's not loud if you are not! This rental is clean, cost effective and in a safe location. Close to Charlie Young Beach, Cove Park, Kamole I, II, III Beaches. We would definitely rent again from Ligia as she was a good part of the reason that our experience was so great. Thanks again for a wonderful Maui Experience! Mahalo!

My wife and I stayed at this place for 6 nights. We had a great vacation. Ligia was very helpful as she left a copy of Maui Revealed as well as some recommendations of things to do and places to eat. The place is on the small side but it has everything you need for 2 people. Lots of little perks like beach chairs, beach towels, boogie boards, and a bottle of wine. The place was really clean and always smelled nice.

Pros: Location; close to beaches, shops and restaurants. Great beginner surf and cheap board rentals across the road.Clean, comfortable place to sleep. Condo came equipped with beach chairs, boogie boards and a cooler bag. Building is older but very well maintained with a friendly aloha vibe from locals. If you want to spend your time and money on exploring Maui, this is an ideal spot!
Cons: pretty small, suits a couple or a single but that would be about it. No kitchenette; but there is a BBQ at the pool and all the cutlery, plates etc. Also as mentioned lots of reasonably priced food options nearby. Try South Maui Fish Co. food truck located in the parking lot behind the 76 gas station for some mind blowing Ahi Poke and fish tacos. Mahalo for the awesome place, we will be back!

I don't think we will ever find a more caring host. The owner is such a gem and truly will go above and beyond to ensure you enjoy your island stay, do not hesitate to let her know if you need anything at all. I requested some small dish cloths and the next day we had a cute baggy of new dish cloths with ribbon hanging on the door.
The location was great, close to several outside markets, great restaurants (I loved the food at Sansei Seafood restaurant) and the feel of Kehei is very safe and relaxed. The room is on the backside of the building, and the lot next to the Island Surf is undeveloped, so it's a really nice jungley view with local wildlife roaming/flying around. It had everything we needed to enjoy a very relaxing vacation in paradise.

We recently (Nov 2016) stayed at this unit within the Island Surf building, and loved it! From the start, the owner was very helpful and accommodating, and continued to be so right through our rental. The unit was perfect for what we were there for - exploring the island and not hanging around in the condo. It was well equipped with a fridge, toaster, coffee maker, and dishes so that we could make our own meals when necessary, and it was generously pre-stocked with some coffee for the machine as well as a beautiful bottle of wine upon arrival!
The supplied beach chairs were also something that we found extremely useful, as well as a mini styrofoam cooler.
The air conditioning unit was very much appreciated and wasn't distracting from sleeping at night - the neighborhood birds and roosters were louder! :)
The condo was situated directly across the street from the beach, and we walked it every morning with our coffees. A beautiful bonus! It was also situated amongst great restaurants and coffee shops which made our local dining a pleasure.
We enjoyed an extremely pleasurable trip in large part to our stay at the Island Surf, and we would recommend it to anyone embarking on a similar adventure in Maui!

The Island Surf was a perfect home base for our stay in Maui. Conveniently located across the street from a park and down the street from great restaurants. The parking was easily accessible and we had no problems with the condo management. This unit has AC! which is a big deal on Maui since most places don't. Ligia provided towels, beach chairs and a wonderful guidebook to Maui which was our faithful companion the whole time we were there. Overall, if you are looking for a no-frills, convenient place to stay I recommend Island Surf.

If you are looking for a great location on a budget on Maui, you've found it. My wife and I had only 3 days to enjoy the island and neither of us are the big, fancy resort type. So we wanted something close to a beach where we could go out all day and come back to relax for the night. Very clean. The owner was intent in making our stay as worry free and enjoyable as possible. We had a rental car but probably didn't need one as everything from beaches to restaurants to grocery stores were all within walking distance. We'll be repeat customers if we ever make it back to Maui.

The studio had everything we needed including beach chairs, towels, sunscreen etc. The location is great for exploring maui life. We woke up early for the sunrise tour at haleakala, which was about a 45 minute drive to the bike store, and easy to get to. The studio is across from a very nice beach which is a 10 minute walk or less. Also, we were conveniently located near great restaurants and bars as well as a huge park and grocery store. Ligia was responsive to our emails, and we LOVED our stay in maui.
