Kona Makai 3-203 is a beautifully appointed 2nd floor condo with a partial ocean view. This condo is fully equipped with everything you may need for your Vacation! Your own private Wifi network available for use as well! Air Conditioning is in the bedroom & living room for your comfort! Cal-King sized bed in the bedroom. The bathroom has been remodeled, complete with a wonderful walk in shower!
Building 3 is especially great because of the positioning of the 2nd private lanai. It's much cooler than any other building in the complex!

The Kona Makai is a beautiful, sunny, highly sought after Ocean Front Complex located on famous Alii Drive just 1.3 miles from Kailua Village. The Kona Makai features include lush tropical gardens, ocean front pool and spa, sunny lounge area, 2 work out rooms, eating area w/ gas BBQ’s, tennis courts, covered parking, free wireless internet, cable TV and is gated during the night for security.

*Starting July 22nd Kona Makai will be starting the exterior painting project on Building 4.
Currently they are estimating between 1.5 - 2 Months to complete each building for this work.
Their current order for the painting of the buildings mentioned below with the possible affected dates.
Building 4 7/22 - 9-22
Building 5 9/22 - 11/22
Building 3 11/22 - 1/22
The painting and spalling contractor has agreed to take a break from work for Ironman and the Christmas holidays. Work will stop from October 21st-29th for Ironman. Work will stop from December 23rd- January 3rd for the Holidays
All dates are subject to change and Knutson & Associates has no say or control in if dates are changed. Dates are given by the complex's hired painting vendor.
The mentioned work will be affecting access to units at possible given times between the work being done on the building. Kona Makai will be sending notices of more specific dates that access will be affected between work hours. We unfortunately cannot provide any given dates for this. Other areas such as lanai access will be affected during times as well. Furthermore the AC will also not be allowed during specific times/dates when the work is going on.
Noise and obstructed views are also to be expected between the dates mentioned.
The contractor plans on beginning spalling repairs on building 2 on September 9th , 2024 at 8:00 am. They plan to set up a scaffold at the oceanside end of the building and they will begin work on the column supporting landings in the stairwell. As they proceed, they will be working on leading edges of lanais on both sides of the building, windowsills, walls, and stairs throughout the building. The area is quiet, clean and close to the shore.The condo was large for our family of 3, and we had all the needed tools, more than enough actually.Loved enjoying the breakfast on the large balcony, BBQing at the shore, using the very clean pool.I can only recommend this place, if you’re looking for somewhere to stay with quiet, close to nice sandy beaches, close to the center of Kailua, and so well equipped.

Now we are expected to do almost all cleaning. Wipe down glass tables etc. fridge stove etc. Remove all garbage and bottles. No definition for what is "Too Much " for housekeeper. Insulting to consumers who pay inflated cleaning fees. AS A CONSUMER- I expect furniture to be sanitized, free of debris, stains on cloth furniture and cushion covers, rugs cleaned of stains, shower curtain washed and no food behind stove, dryer vent cleaned and wall stains from insects removed. This was the perfect place for my husband and I to spend 6 days on the Big Island. We loved being close to downtown and all the restaurants and in a spot that had its own coastline access, pool, and hot tub. The place was super clean and the kitchen tools and beach gear was excellent. We also appreciated having plenty of parking and a gate at night for added security. We would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for a great place in Kona!

I was impressed with everything about this place. It is kept immaculate inside and out. The pool is warmer than most and the hot tub hits the spot. The grill and chill area right on the rocky beach is pretty epic. When I booked this place my only qualm was the carpet in the photos but that’s since been removed. Book it! Mahalo!

The racket broke to peace and quiet of sitting on our lanai. We had no warning and no offer of adjustments. Otherwise quite nice.

I had to make calls to the manager immediately requesting assistance. The manager was great in responding to our calls. All the issues were remedied by the next day. The unit was very nice with great view of the ocean from the lanai. We ate most of our meals there. The kitchen was a bit tight. Otherwise the rest of the unit was quite comfortable. AC units worked great. Didn't have to run it very long to cool down the entire unit. The water pressure in the shower was good. We enjoyed the condo and the grounds were well kept. Very pleasant stay.

The management was helpful. But the booking could be done easier, as we experienced in other similar condos: less mails (we got all twice from Knudson and ), some several times, a signment of a rental agreement we had in no other case and this was stressful for us, the download of an extra app we think is not necessary, a mail with the entrance codes one or two days before would be satisfying.

From the moment I drove onto the property I was very impressed. The grounds are so lush and tropical and clean. I enjoyed the walk down to the unit that I rented it was an unbelievably beautiful walkway. The condo had everything I needed and more and I highly recommend staying here. And the property management company was exceptional so kind and so helpful.

My Husband and I stayed for 10 days at this property. The condo is a bit dated, but offered everything we needed. Beach stuff was included, which is a must for us. The grounds are very well manicured and the view of the sunset is perfect. The property managers were super good to deal with and answered and resolved any inquiries we had.

The check in and check out was seamless, the easiest we've encountered yet. The condo is beautifully maintained and extremely convenient. We enjoyed our breakfast in the lanai watching the ocean waves roll in. We will definitely stay in this place again.

Two minor things for the mgmt company vs Airbnb or vrbo experiences; too few consumables for longer stays (tp, paper towel, trash bags, etc) as these are not available in the small quantities needed, and paperwork is way over the top in your rental process.

We will definitely stay here again. Much less expensive than a hotel plus we had a kitchen complete with everything you’d need! Had a living room with a TV…that actually had Netflix and Hulu. Other things included beach towels and chairs, boogie boards, ice chests… you name it, they had it! A big plus was a washer and dryer!

When we first arrived we could not get the lockbox open, but after calling Knutson & Associates, we had the problem solved within the hour. The other issue was guests in the unit below who were constantly smoking and filled our unit with smoke. This was also quickly resolved with help from Don, the property manager. Other than that, unit 3203 was perfect; clean, well-stocked with kitchen items, beach gear, towels, linens and had a beautiful view of the ocean from the lanai. We especially loved the gorgeous sunset views each evening while we were grilling our dinner out by the beautiful pool!

We really liked the location & the grounds are beautiful. The view from unit is as promised in listing. We have stayed in Hawaii before & based on our experience we were disappointed with the shape of the unit. Bathroom Reno helps but we felt it badly needs updating. The old carpet seemed to bother my asthma, so I wouldn’t recommend that & taught me to inquire in future about carpets. All appliances worked fine, a little low on disposable supplies for a 10 day stay but there was enough kitchen tools etc. I would rent again at this complex but not this particular unit.

Very comfortable, everything was very clean. Condo is well stocked for those cooking at home. Thoughtful additions such as beach chairs, boogie boards, and ice chests were great. Check in was smooth and easy, although the lock box was kinda sticky ( every Master lockbox I’ve ever used has had the same issue). Thanks for a very pleasant stay!

It was fun to hike around the lava rocks on the ocean and to sit and watch the beautiful sunsets, then jump in the Jacuzzi and relax. The unit was also nice. Clean and well stocked with towels, etc. The two downfalls are with the bedding and the A.C. The A.C was in the form of 2 wall units, which were quite loud. They worked fine but had to run pretty constantly while we were in the unit, including at night. We got used to the noise, but would have preferred a quieter unit. The pillows were as cheap as they come, and the bed actually smelled stale and old. The smell was subtle and we got used to it, but could not get used to the pillows. The bed itself was comfortable. Overall, I would consider staying here again, but I would want to bring my own pillows to spare the neck pain.

The general property is beautiful, with a wonderful seating, bbq, dining, pool area right on the ocean It is not near a beach, but we enjoyed walking on the lava rocks, exploring the tidepools, watching the sunsets and snorkeling just steps away. Of course, watch the ocean conditions. On days when the ocean is not rough, this is some of the best snorkeling on the island.

This is a beautiful condo right on the Ocean. The water is so blue; The trees, plants, and flowers will leave you in awe. Lots of little geckos and zebra doves singing. Great Pool at the facility. The walkways along the ocean are breathtaking. This particular condo has great artwork on the walls. Everything was clean and in good working order. Communication was fast and efficient. There are two Lanais. One on each side of the building; One is very quiet and shaded off of the bedroom. Perfect for meditation or reading. The other is great for meals and sunsets!! Spectrum Cable TV. We loved it here. Would study the building layout a little if you are coming late. I was a little confused on which building was ours. For 3-203 go all the way to the left and then about halfway down the footpath.

The only downfall was the internet was not very strong and you needed to be on the lanai to use it.

Not only was booking through Knutson easy and efficient, but they really helped make sure we were in a condo that fit our budget and worked with us to do so. Right when we walked in we felt at home in this condo. It was very clean, and the view from the lanai was gorgeous. The grounds are very well maintained. We had no issues with any appliances or fixtures and everything worked well and went smoothly. Because Kona (The big island in general) does not have a ton of sandy resort style beaches available for laying out/beach activities, we wanted to make sure we stayed in a prime location that was close to other activities. It was a 2 hr drive to amazing hiking and a little over 3 hours to the volcano. The best part about the location though was the small town vibe of the surrounding area; close to the Kona Brewery, shopping (a Sunday street fair) and great restaurants! We did find a beach down the road, magic sands beach, but it was very small and overcrowded and we stayed less than half an hour. We already want to go back to Kona Makai! If you are looking for a cozy and comfortable home base for you to come back to once you are finished with a day of exploring, or a nice relaxing place to layout by the pool or in front of the ocean (breath taking rocky shoreline), then book this condo!

Reviewer Comments: well first off the condo looked nice but after being there for a day we found that both air conditioners were broken, the shower flooded, the water alarm went off (didn't even know what that was) took awhile to figure how to turn it off, the dvd player did not work and we were GIVEN A WARNING for using our cell phones on the lani didn't know the rules, none were put in the condo and the rules were on a wall on one of the buildings didn't see them until leaving
