This is a wonderful cottage for a couple or a small family. Unbeatable location next to an amazing beach with snorkeling and sunbathing but plenty of shade when you want it! The cottage was spotless when we arrived. Mary was so incredibly helpful and accommodating and available if we needed anything. She went above and beyond to make our trip special. You will never regret a stay here. Wonderful.

Our 7 day stay at Ehu Kai cottage was delightful. Much thought and design was put into this treehouse type bungalow which typifies old hawaiiana with rich wood interior paneling. Perfectly clean upon arrival. Easy access to the beach and snorkeling. Grocery shopping a short drive away. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware with very nice appliances. The air flow from many windows,the ceiling fans and nice bedding made sleeping very comfortable. The staff at 2 Papayas was excellent in helping arrange our reservation,notifing us prior to arrival, updating us with weather warnings, quickly resolving any house repairs and providing a thorough to-do list for easy check out at our time of departure. Hawaii Surf & Kayak delivered SUP Boards to the bunglow for our length of stay and we did a kayak tour with them nearby viewing turtles, manta rays and octopus. Hearing the local songbirds each morning was a special treat!

The location was great, right on a snorkeling beach with a small ocean view. Short drive to Puako Bay where there is incredible snorkeling. The property contains everything needed for meals, comfortable king sized bed and the air conditioners work great. Mary was very responsive to all my questions.

This is a very comfortable home for a couple or small family. We also rented Ulu Nui as we were a large family group. The location is oceanside, with a white sandy beach, has fantastic swimming and snorkeling with turtle viewing nearby. We had sunset watch every evening, beach star gazing at night, barbeques, and dinners on the lanai. The beach is easy to access for small children. Location is quiet, an easy drive to markets, shopping or entertainment. Most mornings and evenings I was the only one in the water! Manager is attentive and services are all arranged for a carefree visit. Love, love, love this location and the accommodations.

This is our second stay in this wonderful house and we are already looking forward to next year. Talk about a hidden gem. Basically right on the beach, but with privacy. Stocked with everything you might need or want and Mary’s team is just a phone call away in case anything comes up. From having the Hawaiian music channel playing and cold towels and a pitcher of cold filtered water in the fridge when you arrive, to the papayas and limes ready to use. We settle in like it’s home.

It is a mere steps from the most beautiful beach on the big Island. A perfect location. The home is clean and in great shape, and well equipped for making our own meals. It is extremely comfortable. We had a wonderful stay at this true beach house. A great house for 2. Nicely furnished, clean and well equipped. Mary and her team are excellent. When we arrived there were fresh flowers, fruit as well as chilled wet cloths in the fridge. The beach is literally steps away. We experienced a personal emergency and Mary came to our rescue. We have already booked next year!

First - communication and coordination with Mary and her team was excellent. Very straight forward the entire process. We arrived at Ehu Kai - everything as planned. Wonderful property - neat as a pin - perfect for our stay! We really enjoyed having certain basic items provided - like coffee filters etc - all those small little items that you hate to buy for a short time period etc. The grill was fantastic for grilling fish - and we ate outside on the outdoor lanai every breakfast and dinner! Has AC but we didn't need it - the breeze through the windows is incredibly relaxing at night. Incredible location - we will be back!

This is an older well maintained property with a peekaboo view of the water on a short path to beautiful 69 Beach. It’s one of a small cluster of homes on a private gated road just North of Puako. It was perfect for a couple, but would be quite cozy with others sleeping on the pull out in the main living space. There are stairs from the carport to the house with BBQ and laundry on the carport level. Well supplied, outdoor shower, full kitchen, built for breezes.

We have rent vacation homes 2 to 3 times a year and would the very good category. Close enough if you want to visit many of the islands attractions and place that when you drive away you look back and say that you will be back.. This was our third time staying in Ehu Kai. As always, the location so close to a wonderful beach was perfect. The house is in great shape, nicely updated and kept super clean, with everything you could need provided. The addition of air conditioning made for a happy August stay, though we only needed it for short periods a few times. (Usually, plenty of breezes and screened windows keep things comfortable.) Mary and everyone at 2 Papayas were professional and helpful, as always. Daily swims and beautiful sunsets just a few minutes from our front door made for a special stay. Thank you, 2 Papayas; the great job you do is much appreciated.

For over 30 years I have vacationed in the Hawaiian islands, exploring and enjoying the varied and distinct beauty and pleasures each has to offer. For the last 10 years running, however, I have returned to the Big Island's Kohala Coast, and to the charming cottage by Waialea Bay called Ehu Kai. My search seems to be over. A stay at Ehu Kai encompasses the very best of all my Hawaiian travels.
It is such a pleasure upon arrival to always find the house spotlessly clean, well provisioned and impeccably maintained. After stocking a few groceries from the nearby farmers and fish markets, and changing into swim trunks, I am "there". A few steps past the outdoor shower and my feet are in the sand. After a swim in the calm, clear water of the bay my vacation truly has begun.
There are countless wonders and adventures to discover on the Big Island. Hotels, shopping and restaurants within a short drive, the incredible beaches at Hapuna and Mauna Kea are nearby. But the wonderful thing about a stay at Ehu Kai for me is that those attractions feel far, far away. They are there if and when you want them, but they never intrude on the quiet, peaceful escape that is Ehu Kai.

A perfect location for de-stressing and kicking back on our favorite Big Island beach. The cottage had all we needed, and was immaculate. The arrival greeting was very welcoming and the nice detail of cold facecloths was appreciated after a day in the air. We will definitely return.

This property certainly met and exceeded our expectations based on the description and photos. The interior of the house is just beautiful and quality throughout. It was spotless and well maintained - the maintenance man came by one day and checked to make sure if it was OK before doing a little trimming, which of course it was even if he hadn't brought us the fresh mangos! The perched nature of the house put the living area and lanai up in the trees and we spent lots of time watching birds and butterfies from the lanai and looking out to the ocean. We liked the privacy afforded by being set back just a bit from the beach with the screen of vegetation, but yet the ocean view and instant access to the beach. While the beach had its share of people mid-day, we enjoyed tea on a quiet beach in the morning, and often had the beach to ourselves to watch the sunset. It became magical enough that we got married on the beach in front of the house on our last night there. We hope to be able to return to celebrate a first anniversary.
I can't do a review of the house without adding a special note about how well Mary prepared the house and made sure we had everything we needed. After a very long day of traveling it was so wonderful to be greeted by cold fruit juice, fresh papayas, cool washcloths in the refridgerator, and a wealth of very helpful information about the area and activities.

Ehu Kai is an adorable and comfortable cottage with a cabin-in-the-trees feel. It's a perfect spot for a couple to enjoy snorkeling and swimming and relaxing with each other. Mary is very helpful and responsive in working with you to make your stay enjoyable. Ehu Kai is perfect, and we intend to return.

My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here and could not have had a more relaxing
and enjoyable time.
We have spent many days on this beach, but have never stayed in a rental so close.
The unit was absolutely perfect for the two of us as we enjoyed the beach and water every day and
made sure we viewed the sunset every evening. We even saw the green flash !
We highly recommend this location and look forward to our next visit.
