We loved our stay at this ocean front older home. It’s in a neighborhood dotted with long time residents and vacation rentals. Although it could use some TLC maintenance inside and out we appreciated its premier location and cost. Everything was pristinely clean, kitchen well outfitted and king bed comfortable. The best part was the large covered lanai about 20 feet from the sea wall. I would highly recommend Al’s place. Loved the quiet area, the sounds of the waves, the nearby beaches and would most definitely choose to stay there again. Wished we could stay longer. covered lanai

Exactly what we were hoping for. Super quiet away from the typical tourist areas but easy enough to drive to amenities. Beaches to the left and right that we had to ourselves most days. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. Al is a great host.

We had a nice stay at this cottage. It is super clean. I don’t think I have ever rented a home in Hawaii where I’ve not seen a single bug. We loved sitting on the lanai, watching the ocean and fabulous clouds. The kitchen is well equipped and the WiFi worked well. We’ll be back.

I’m not sure I should be telling anyone about this place. The cabin is fantastic on so many levels. It’s comfortable, the location is beautiful, the sheets soft and unperfumed, the host is thoughtful and responsive, household products are environment conscious, the ocean is right there, and the breeze is steady. The long dead end road requires a car and makes an excellent morning walk. This was our third stay in this neighborhood and hoping for more. Please, do not tell anyone else!

This is a great place, right on the ocean. The home is better than the pictures indicate It is bright and airy. We spent most of our time on the porch which is only a few feet from the ocean. Walks on the beach where great with very few people.
The house itself had everything we needed, full kitchen, great wifi, comfortable furniture and bed, nice tv on a dead end road. Also a great launching pad to visit the reast of the island.
Communication with owner was quick, friendly, and very informaitive.
We loved this place and look forward to returning!

This rustic beach cottage was just what we we’re looking for in our stay on Kauai. Whale watching daily off the lanai while we drank our coffee each morning. Beach access just a short walk down the road and a great place to adventure around the island for all our exploring. The host was excellent to work with! We’ve referred the cottage to a couple we met at the airport who we’re looking for a reasonable place to stay on their next visit. We’ll definitely come back!

Just as shown. A clean and very well-appointed "original Hawaiian" beach house. Right on the water with no shoreline (a wall), but a small beach next door. Full length back deck to enjoy the amazing water and coastal views, and is where we spent most daylight hours. Quiet neighborhood, well away from traffic and noise. Nice star-gazing when it wasn't cloudy. Very comfortable king bed and washer/dryer were a plus, as was the extra outdoor shower and sink for easy clean-up. Enjoyed having a kitchen, fenced yard and covered parking as well. Having no a/c was okay, due to open windows and coastal breezes (but the windows need to be closed when it rains or whenever you leave, and it can get warm). Every thoughtful amenity is provided for a lovely, peaceful and restorative stay. It is not fancy, and the wind and water have taken their toll (especially on the outside), but it was "a-okay" for us. Al is great to work with and very responsive with any request or concern. We hope to return!

Wonderful property, directly on the sea wall with a small beach directly to the south of it. It is a nice beach cottage, kitchen and bathroom is updated, additional outdoor shower and toilet room is very convenient when enjoying time at the adjacent beach. Wonderful covered porch facing the water. I was concerned the property was older and outdated by the photos but it is not, it’s in wonderful shape. Enjoy relaxing in the shade of the lounge chaise on the porch or take a beach chair and towel out! Lots of neat fish to catch, we also saw folks out snorkeling.

This was our second stay at Al’s property, and I’m already trying to figure out when we can come for another visit. The home is clean, comfortable, and conveniently located for exploring the north and east sides of Kauai. The view cannot be beat, and having access to the ocean just steps from the house is pretty spectacular. I would recommend staying here to anyone who is looking for a quiet, low key getaway.

We stayed here for three days in mid-June. Central east location with easy access to north and south shore sites. House is private and nearby beaches are uncrowded. Beach in front of the house was calm in the morning with good snorkeling. We found it to be better than Anini beach. House was clean and well-appointed. Especially appreciated the outside sink and clothes line for rinsing and hanging beach wear. Comfortable beds! Cool ocean breezes kept the house temperature comfortable. Smooth check-in/out process with experienced host. Book this place if you're looking for a quiet escape from the crowds or a peaceful home base to return to after a day of exploring. You won't be disappointed. Would definitely stay here again!

Amazing home in a very quiet neighborhood. My family and I were so happy so stay here for our vacation. The house comfortably fit my family of four, and was well furnished and stocked. The house also had a beautiful view accessible small sandy beach right on the side of the house. There is no air conditioning, so the house gets hot while you are away, but as soon as you open up the windows the house quickly cools down with the cool ocean breeze. I have to say it was amazing waking up and falling asleep you the sound of the ocean from right outside the windows. Al was very communicative even prior to our trip, and offered a few tips on the day that we arrived. We have definitely recommended this place to several people! Thank you for a great getaway!

This was a super tranquil getaway. The checkin process was super easy. You have this whole cottage to yourself. I woke up to early am sunrise and soaking up the private beach to ourselves. The neighborhood is quiet on the east side, fairly quick drive to the north side attractions. AL went about and beyond with accommodating us and being prompt with requests. Would highly recommend his place for a quiet beach get away

The house was comfortable with 2 twin, 1 queen, and 1 split king bed. The kitchen had everything we needed to make some meals. The best part was the large ocean front deck where we could eat ore just sit and watch the many colors of the ocean as it the light changed.

We had an absolutely lovely nine night stay at Halekai. Originally we were only booked for six nights, but we loved our first two nights so much that we contacted Al to see if we could extend our stay.
The location of the house is perfectly convenient to points of interest to the north and south, but is situated on a quiet, private road. Of course our favorite part of the house was the huge, ocean front lanai, followed closely by the nearly private beach located just a few steps from the front door.
We can’t wait to come back; in fact, we’re already discussing which week we should book for next year!

We loved our stay here so much we didn't want to leave. The neighborhood was quiet and our time was so peaceful and relaxing! It was amazing to have an oceanfront view. We woke up every morning and had coffee on the porch while watching the sunrise. We fell asleep every night listening to the waves and feeling the ocean breeze blow gently through the house. The house was clean and stocked with essentials like paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap and laundry soap. The location was perfect for us as we were traveling from the north and south of the island daily. We appreciated how well our host Al communicated with us and responded to our questions quickly. We look forward to staying here again soon!

I had booked this home previously for my family’s vacation to the island, but due to Covid, we were not been able to complete that trip. My only disappointment is that at the time of re-booking I wasn’t able to secure this house for our entire stay. We did get 3 nights here! It was exactly what I wanted for our trip: relaxed atmosphere, private, beautiful views, friendly neighborhood, and simple peace and quiet. We loved this place....so peaceful and quiet.!! There are mostly locals in this neighborhood which was so nice!. It was nice to chat with some on the beaches. The beaches are so peaceful... Not a ton of tourists. The house is simple and a little worn but clean... Which was perfect for us!!!! We like that... Sometimes hotels, resorts, etc can be too sterile. We loved looking out at the water and going to sleep with the sound of waves. We also snorkeled a bit right in front of our place. While snorkeling one time, my son and I saw 2 seals swimming about 20 ft from us... They looked at us for a couple minutes then dove back down.

The charming house is ideally located on the water. We spent mornings and evenings on the porch enjoying the view. The outdoor dining area was great and protected from wind and rain. Anahola allows for short drives to the more popular destinations to the north and south and then you return to your private ocean setting. We loved the house and hope to stay again soon.

Most amazing stay we've had on Kauai- we usually stay at the Aston Islander or the Mokihana (now Iso) so this was a first renting a stand alone house. It had everything. All the kitchen tools and appliances you could want, lot's of options for sleeping, super comfortable beds and bedding. I loved having a washer/dryer it was a game changer. We arranged the sitting chairs to be in front of the lanai and drank our coffees watching the ocean (indoors or outdoors). The ocean is RIGHT THERE. Lot's of air flow with the windows open and there were two fans I could use to cool off if it got too warm. The shower head was luxurious. It's very out of the way and we enjoyed evening walks down to the end of the road looking at all the plants and animals. The location was perfect for accessing all the parts of the island, north and south shores. And Kapa'a is just down the highway with all the restaurants and shopping. We did a lot of take out from Kilauea and swimming at Moloa'a. I have nothing negative to report. Only that I hope to return someday! The lines to rent a car are quite long- expect to spend about 2 hours in line so bring snacks!

This place is aptly named, as we felt right at home as soon as we arrived. The ocean breezes and song surround you both inside and outside - such a relaxing and comfortable environment! Entire place is very clean and well-stocked. Instructions are very clear and checking in and out was extremely easy. We enjoyed snorkeling right in our backyard, and the kids loved finding coral treasures along the small beach tucked beside the house. Perfect view for Kauai sunrises, and perfect central location for exploring both north and south shores. We did it all over a long weekend! We are already homesick for Hale Kai and hope to return very soon! Mahalo🌺

This Plantation style cottage was perfect for us. We are a retired couple who go to Hawaii for the beaches snorkelling and food. We have a similar cottage in Alberta Canada so we felt right at home. We were there for 16 days and found everything we needed with the cottage. The snorkelling was excellent right in front of the cottage. We BBQ'd every night with the provided grill. We had incredible sunrises every morning and enjoyed the sound of the crashing wave at night. Al was very helpful and accommodating

It was the perfect beach house. Beds were comfortable. There were 2 full/queen beds and 2 twins. Full kitchen. Even a washer/dryer! It was amazing falling asleep to crashing waves then waking up to them. And there isn’t any light pollution, so you can see a ton of stars out at night when it’s not cloudy.

This place is simply perfect. Amazing location/view, lots of privacy, great host. I stayed here 10 years ago and was too so happy to go back. We rarely left the house during our 5 night stay. We even ordered a mobile massage (check out Amy's) and they set up on the spacious deck - a very special and recommended treat.
The house is a clean, unpretentious, super comfortable, and filled with fresh sea breezes. I adored sleeping to the sound of the lapping waves. The covered deck allows you to enjoy the view in rain or shine. Reliable internet allowed me to work remotely in paradise - there's even an electrical outlet on the porch and extension cords available to get the *perfect* view. The kitchen had all the essentials to cook all our meals as well as blended cocktails :) Icing on the cake was VERY comfortable beds!!!

Nothing remotely luxurious, but that’s not the point. The Halekai house is a perfectly functional beach shack. It’s clean and it has everything a vacation home-base needs. You will enjoy the sunrises, trade-wind breezes and the sounds of waves against the sea wall. The owner, Al is extremely responsive.

We had a fabulous experience at this beautiful waterfront bungalow! We enjoyed walking to the end of the road and soaking in the sunshine at the soft, sandy beach. Otherwise, snorkeling Anini beach, the nearby chocolate farm tour, and mountain tubing in Lihue were some of our favorite excursions while in Anahola. While snorkeling the bay in front of the house we saw loads of sea urchins so definitely be advised to wear water shoes if planning to swim here. The neighbors were super friendly. Stay here! It’s wonderful!

My wife and I arrived for a one week stay. It's not fancy but has everything you could want and more. Sunrises, whale watching, snorkeling, beach walks and a very nice restaurant owned by locals just 1.5 miles away. We often got our dinners to go and dined back at the house. There is also a general store, post office and fabulous burger place very nearby. Conveniently located for exploring the entire island. We HIGHLY recommend this house. We hope we can return again!

My husband and I cannot say enough about this place. It was just up our alley for comfort and beauty.. Everything you need to feel at home. The sound of the surf puts you to sleep every night. We brought our niece with us and she feel in love with the island as well. Thank you for sharing your home and we are already planning to come back. This cottage is not about luxury, it is about comfort, relaxation and a very reasonable rate. The house is very clean and stocked with everything you'll need and more. Snorkeling, swimming, spear fishing, paddle boarding and beach combing are excellent here and just steps away. Very little effort is needed to negotiate the sea wall to access beach.
We spent our first week in my time share and explored the island everyday. However, once we arrived at the cottage we only left twice to get fresh food. I was planning to propose to my love mid-week but was so inspired by the feeling I got 30 minutes into our stay I pulled out the ring and dropped to a knee. She had little option but to say yes as she had the same feeling.

My sister and I recently took our Mom to Kaiai to celebrate her 80th birthday and rented this wonderful cottage right on the ocean for our stay. The look on her face the first morning when she saw the awesome view from the deck that stretches the entire length of the house made the hours searching the internet all worth it. This is the best deal on Kauai for those who value their privacy, love to watch the waves, and want to be able to access the beach (there is a sea wall but there are stairs built in which make beach access possible with a bit of effort). We had one small problem during our stay but this was addressed very promptly by Carolyn and Al. Thanks very much for sharing your family home with us. We will definitely be back!

Without a doubt this is a great beach house. We just got back a few days ago from a two week stay in this quaint house that sits right along side of the ocean. The house is clean and well maintained and with all of the amenities one would need. There are plenty of sheets, blankets, and pillows.
The house is about a mile from the highway so all you hear is the soothing sounds of the ocean. Absolutely no traffic except from the few houses down the street, and that you can't hear because it is at the back of the house. You have all the privacy you could want as the house next door is concealed with trees and the other side the house is a ways away.
We spent a lot of time in the morning and evening on the deck watching the whales with our binoculars. So binoculars are a must. We didn't have a pair so we went to a thrift store and pick them up.
The roosters and hens with their little chicks were always a delight to watch. The beach is only steps from the house, so we took many cruises up and down the beach. We also had our morning run along the beach. The sand is clean and so we ran barefoot without a worry.
Not only would I rent this house from Al again, I would highly recommend it! In my opinion the price is a steal!

We booked this site knowing it was off the beaten path and away from the busy traffic of more touristy areas. The great sunrises from the deck and the constant sounds of the surf were just what we needed & wanted. It's a quick drive to the highway but seems miles away. And no busy traffic out your door, a real plus. This is a true beach house. Not frilly, but a great home base for touring Kauai or just relaxing on the deck with a good book.

I can't even begin to express how much we enjoyed our stay. The house was perfect. It had everything to make our stay comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you would want and then some. After a day I felt like it was my home. Our favorite part was the lanai. When at the house we spent the majority of our time out there. I have many sunrise and some sunset pictures. The reef out front was good for snorkeling although the sea was a little rough the week we were there. We will definitely come back again and I would highly recommend it to my family and friends. If you want a quiet place away from the resort area, with fantastic views you found it here. House is older but very comfortable. Kitchen is well equipped for cooking great meals. The deck...ahh the deck and the view. The house was clean and the owner was easy to work with. Loved having the ocean in the backyard! We snorkled from the house many times seeing all kinds of fish. It was a great jumping point to see the island; we could go South or North easily or just hang out. It definately slowed us down and made us relax! Great kitchen and bath. Lanai was the best we found ourselves out there in the mornings for the sunrise almost every morning! They had more ammenities than we thought! Like a hair dryer and cooking spices! Bonus! So hospitable, thank you again. You have a wonderful place!
