Tradewinds Cottage's classic Hawaiian environment is the paradise you've been searching for!

Kauai's chronically sunny west side, with dry sunny days, offers several of the state's best beaches, the breathtaking natural beauty of Waimea Canyon, the unexpected splendor of Kokee State Park and views so stunning of the rugged Na Pali coast you'll forget to get your camera out. For adventurous travelers, Kauai's west coast serves as a launching point for world-class hiking, boating, sport fishing, surfing and helicopter tours of the island's interior. If you're looking for peace and quiet, take a short walk to the beach with a towel, a book, a drink, your favorite person or all the above to watch the sunset over Ni'ihau, Hawaii's Forbidden Island. Inside, you'll feel like you stepped into a dream.

And if you're out at night, don't forget to lean your head back and look up at the stars -- they look like they're just just beyond arm's reach. Or you could light the outdoor grill to start a memorable meal with your loved ones. Whether you've been out and about or nearby, you will look forward to coming home to Tradewinds Cottage.

Also nearby is Port Allen, Kauai's west side port, where you can sign up for a sunset cruise or an ocean-bound tour of the Na Pali Coast, both memorable and exciting side trips. Whether you want to picnic or hike, or just ponder Kauai's natural beauty, drive to the top of Kauai, accessible from the towns of Waimea and Kekaha. Driving up to Kokee State Park will take you past what Mark Twain called 'The Grand Canyon of the Pacific'.
Tradewinds Cottage offers a full kitchen and a washer and dryer to make your stay more pleasant.
The gracious interior invites conversation over dinner or drinks with friends and family with an open floor layout between the living room, dining room and kitchen.Louvered windows let the trade winds blow through the house, a constant reminder you're in Hawaii.

You can keep up, if you desire, with what's going on in the rest of the world with cable TV and free Wi-Fi internet. If you're in Kauai to work, there is plenty of space to spread out, a phone, a good internet connection, and services nearby.

You will enjoy your stay at Tradewinds Cottage whether you have a week, a month, or longer to spend on Kauai. Many of our guests are repeat visitors and will attest to how pleasant their stay was. You, like them, will reflect on the ocean side sunsets over the island of Ni'ihau, the timeless surfers riding the timeless waves, and discovering your personal favorite spots around the island. Your only regret will be leaving.

We look forward to seeing you!

Very comfortable cottage on a private property. While there is some neighborhood noise, the advantage of being walking distance to a beautiful beach makes up for that. The kitchen is exceptionally well-equipped and the cottage stays cool with the numerous fans and vented windows. We really enjoyed our stay.

We traveled to Kekaha for our annual family visit—kids and grandkids! Good times! The house was as billed, clean and perfect for us.

We really enjoyed our stay at this property, it was even better than the pictures led us to expect. It’s not in the middle of things, but that’s what we like and it is an island, it’s not far to where you want to be. The neighborhood was quiet (except for the roosters), the beds comfortable and we had everything we needed. I don’t understand the complaints about the refrigerator, we even had water freeze in the refrigerator part. We would definitely stay here again.

We had such an amazing time for our first time in Hawaii. This place was perfect for coming back after a long day and being able to relax. We loved having the washer/dryer and dishwasher and all of the amenities. it was a so close to a nice beach that we were able to take a short dive to. Would definitely love to come back!

Overall we loved it, manager was very nice and the property was great! It was in a bit more rural part of the island which we liked! But the down side is we had to drive a ways for a lot of the touristy kinds of locations. We didn’t mind though, Kekaha beach is seriously awesome and only like a 2 minute drive.

Pros - Good location for beaches/canyon/Waimea. Cons - Noise - local traffic, multiple neighborhood dogs barking, ever present crowing roosters. Not very quiet. Rental needs some serious maintenance. Appears to be past fixer upper. Considering the quality of the other 2 rentals during this vacation this rental is over priced.

Vacation was a true Hawaiian experience away from the touristy towns. Home offered everything needed for a comfortable stay. Close to Waimea Canyon and steps from the ocean.

The place was clean, cozy & in a quiet neighborhood (except the roosters - but hey... it's Kauai). Away from the tourism & crowds. I loved that this place was minutes from the beach. I look forward to coming back to this place.

We loved this little cottage next to the beach! We were walking distance to the ocean to enjoy the sunrises and sunsets. If you want to sit at the beach for sunset, drive down the road to Kekaha beach. We could hear the ocean waves from our house! It was the perfect neighborhood, and we felt at home. It took us a little while to get used to the sound of chickens early in the morning, but we soon took advantage of the fans in the house to help us sleep through it. We loved the location of this house! Close enough to Waimea for groceries, shopping and places eat. We also loved the salt pond for our 4 old yr old daughter. We were so grateful that there were beach towels and beach chairs for us to use on our day trips. We also used the little cooler everyday to pack lunches and keep our water cool. While the home may be a little outdated, it made us feel at home and experience Kauai in a more organic way. There was fresh fruit on the property that was delicious. The groundskeeper came by one of the days and did a fantastic job sprucing everything up. Very friendly, and a hard worker! This was a our first time bringing our daughter to Kauai and it was magical! She fell in love with the area and keeps asking when we will come back. We would stay at this sweet home again. Mahalo!

We enjoyed staying at this property and being close to Waimea canyon for hiking and not too far from Poipu for snorkeling and swimming. Also not too far from Hannipepe where we enjoyed the bookstore, bakery, and the Friday Art night. The house felt very spacious and we appreciated the beach supplies (towels, chairs, and even snorkel masks!).We got used to the sounds of chickens quickly and enjoyed being in a quiet neighborhood. Recommend highly!

This house does not feel like it’s a tourist destination. It is a real Hawaii experience. It’s one or two houses back from the ocean with a full kitchen, living room and dining room. Kekaha is super mellow. Close to hiking in Waimea canyon and close to beautiful beaches. This is by far the best place we have ever stayed on vacation. Nothing could have been better

This was our first stay on the west side of the Island! This entire property is gorgeous! While it is nearby other homes, it feels very private and intimate. When we initially arrived, there were a few items that needed to be addressed, but as soon as we contacted Scott, he was able to get everything taken care of immediately! We really enjoyed our stay in this quiet part of the island and we look forward to staying here again in the future! As a reminder to first-time visitors, many local stores and shops close up early (6pmish) - nearby Kekaha has plenty of spots for a good meal and some shopping. Additionally, this is VERY close to the Waimea Canyon! We did lots of hiking in the canyon trails, and I being so close made exploring the canyon so much easier! We look forward to visiting again soon!

Out of the way and no tourist noise! This lovely cottage has everything you need for a peaceful getaway. Private patio with grill, beach chairs and umbrella for extended beach time. Lovely landscaping surrounds the cottage. Windows all the way around with jalousie operation so great for breezes, the sounds of the waves and birdsong. Very comfortable. Hated to leave.

This house offered our visit to the island a great time. The location of the house on the Kauai west side gave us the sunshine every day. It is also a good location to launch our hiking activities in the Waimea canyons.. we also loved to be far away from other high activities tourist towns and this house did it for us,. The beach is about 10 minutes away, it’s salt pond beach. The 9 holes golf course is 20 minutes away, I’ll t is the most affordable course on all islands, &15 for 9 holes. Over all we enjoyed our stay and we would rent this house again. Mahalo

Delightfully surprised at the comfort, cleanliness and size of this home. It's bigger than the photos make it seem. It was VERY comfortable, especially on the few occasions we needed to use the window AC units. Mostly, the breezes from the beach keep everything comfortable. LOVED the mango and huge mandarins. We appreciated being far from the "touristy" side of the island. Much more our vibe for a quiet family reunion, with great proximity to Waimea beach and canyon. Highly recommended.

Property is dated but well maintained. Neighborhood was somewhat noisy - barking dogs, loud conversations by neighbors. Burnt out light bulbs and running out of toilet paper was dealt with within an hour once housekeeping/management was notified. Directions to the property and how to use appliances were clear and complete

Exceptional rental. We never met Scott, the owner but he makes things easy and Scott is always very responsive. We love quiet Kekaha, close to but so far from the resorts of Poipu!Things to do around? If one likes hiking Kokee Park offers many possibilities . Salt pond beach at Hanapepe offers safe swimming and Polihale beach is fabulous but swimming there is close to impossible.

Amazing property with fruit trees. Mangos, avocados, and limes. The beach is just a short walk or drive. It was perfect.

July 2021
The house is a charming bungalow one block from the ocean. There were ocean breezes each day so, the many ceiling fans and windows meant that no air conditioning in the living areas was not an issue. AC in the master bedroom was appreciated for those few warmer nights. The house has more living space than it seems from the online pictures. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and pots and pans. There are a couple minor repairs to the bathroom toilet and kitchen faucet that are needed but neither negatively impacted our stay. I would also suggest all the mattresses be replaced, they weren’t very comfortable. We loved the yard, the deck, the fruit trees, AND the neighborhood chickens. We really appreciated the beach chairs and beach towels provided, we used them every day. About the west side…Kekaha does not really have a downtown area aside from a convenience store. We went to Waimea for all our grocery shopping; between Ishihara’s and Big Save, we had no issues getting what we needed. And Ishihara’s has great poke! Waimea is not a big town but it does have a few places to eat and town conveniences. The house is great for those who want to be away from crowds of tourists and resort areas. We found a great local beach spot on which most days we were the only ones there. This part of the island is not great for swimming as the beaches are open to the ocean so the surf is often rough. That being said, there are several local beaches within a 10-20 minute drive that are good for swimming, we especially liked Salt Pond Beach. Kekaha is on the west side of the island but, we had no issues getting to other parts of the island for excursions and exploring, the north shore was about 1.5 hours away. Communication was very good and check in was a breeze. We’d stay here again, for sure.

June 2021
Clean, updated, and comfortable little house in the middle of a quiet neighborhood. Away from the hustle and bustle of the island and we felt like locals, even if for only 5 days. The location is a bit isolated but we did not mind and the only trip that seemed long was the north shore/Hanalei area. We enjoyed the fruits and beautiful flowers on the property - the sweetest mangoes we have ever had! The roosters are VERY early risers but after the second night we got used to them. Thank you for sharing your cottage with us!
