We had the best time at Hanalei Bay Resort. Our host was timely and attentive when we needed some specific help with check-in. The room was gorgeous and clean. I loved the vaulted ceilings & canopy bed. The bed was also comfortable & sheets felt fresh. The view was even better than the pictures - absolutely stunning! My only suggestion is some new bathroom rugs but overall we were incredibly pleased with our stay and would love to return as soon as possible. 10/10

This room looked bigger in pictures. I wouldn’t say the view is “unobstructed”. TV wasn’t working and when you call the front desk they instruct you to call property owner. Texted property owner but no response. Furtherest building from the main parking lot so expect to walk a long ways. If you call for cart service expect to wait more than 15 minutes. We’ve stayed at other rooms at Hanalei Bay Resort before, this one was the most dated.

Hanalei Bay Resort is a very nice place to stay, if you are ok with the hills. There are the carts but it can be a wait sometimes, especially to & from the very hilly beach path.
All resort costs are out of date. All higher than posted-parking, resort fee, bunch of taxes.
The paint inside the unit needs to be redone badly.
The pillows are huge.
Tub needs resurfacing again or new tub!
A throw rug might be good.
Instructions on how to work the remote for the A/C so you don't freeze on a cold rainy night.
An extra blanket to go with the thin bedspread provided. It would make sense to rehang the tv on the wall instead of standing it on the table - taking up precious room space.
The items listed and pictured as being provided inside the unit are outdated as most aren't there. It's usually something in it's, but not always (no pan).
Had to contact owner and he's on EST he wasn't happy when we re-asked 2 hours later. Longer than we've waited anywhere else.
Owner had prop manager come to handle issues. She was great. No phone contact allowed.

We love Hanalei Bay Resort and have been multiple times. The property is wonderful for families, and we enjoyed the activities including fish feeding, bingo, and yoga.
While the views in this unit are great, it would benefit from some basic improvements/attention. In particular it did not seem clean, as evidenced by sheets that smelt stale, grease/film in the bathroom, and multiple lizard/cockroach sightings. There are multiple chips/breakage in the bathroom tiles. The owner was responsive when we asked for a new shower curtain liner and a potential mid-week cleaning (we decided to do that ourselves d/t the cost).
We will definitely return to this resort, however we will consider other units first.

We paid for a week upfront and I was surprised at checkout when they charged me $380 for resort fees and taxes. This should have been explained upfront.
The place was wonderful though. Just be prepared for daily fees of $17 for parking, $22 resort fees, 4.71% general tax and 13.25% accommodation tax… all daily.

I rented 8231 as an adjunct to 8232. Both units are impeccably and tastefully furnished with modern appliances. The unit lives true and exceeds the beauty of the listing pictures. One of my guests and I stayed in another unit previously that had a bigger view of the ocean, and we both agreed that 8232/8231 would be our first choice moving forward. The view coupled with the interior and lanai furnishings are top notch.

I had a wonderful experience. The room has a beautiful view, a comfortable bed, a small amount of dining supplies, plates, silverware, knives etc, and a couple of portable mixers(I used to make my fruit smoothie in the morning. The walk to the room meanders through the HBR property for sure, but I didn't mind at all. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Was not warned of hilly landscape. Was hard for me. Had to get a golf cart shuttle and felt obligated to tip every time. Even the beach that was advertised as being close to was up a huge hill, then down a huge hill. No comfortable furniture inside or out. Even beach chairs were falling apart. No tub plug. Drain full of hair. The place needs less furniture, comfortable chairs, and a good sprucing up.

We loved our room. The view was a peak of the bay and the left side if Bali Hai. We couldnt see the tip of it due to a wall next to us. We loved the birds chirping. No buildings in front of us. The unit is a small studio, with fridge, microwave and coffee pot only, but really great. Its a good walk down the hill from the parking lot. Comfy bed. A little dated, but also reasonable price for what you get.

If you consider this a motel room and NOT a condo, you'll be fine. It really doesn't lend itself to cooking and doing dishes, but if you just need a microwave to heat something, there's one in the closet. There's a coffee maker, but only one coffee mug. The on-site dining doesn't open until 3:00 p.m., but there's a small refrigerator (also in the closet) for your milk if you want cereal for breakfast.
The bed was comfortable and there was no problem with noise. There were plenty of towels, but two rolls of toilet paper wasn't sufficient for our ten nights!
The room needs some attention.... such as, fresh paint, repair the bathroom fan, a plug for the bathtub, replace burned out lightbulbs, etc. but otherwise.... it's an AMAZING location with a great view on well-maintained, beautiful grounds with a pathway to a spectacular beach.

My daughter and I had a wonderful stay. The property grounds are absolutely beyond gorgeous. We enjoyed the view from the balcony. The room was very clean. If you have mobility issues, the rental is located at the far side of the property and the property has some hills, but you can request a ride in a golf cart to the unit. From the room you can also request a golf cart to pick you up and help with luggage or bring you to the parking lot. We do not have mobility issues and we throughly enjoyed the walks around the property. There are beautiful views in every direction you look. The pool was perfect and they served free rootbeer floats. The beach was beautiful. The pizza from the restaurant on property was some of the best pizza I have ever eaten. We ordered pizza and ate it at the pool. There were beach chairs on the balcony that can be used at the beach. We have zero complaints about our stay. Everything was wonderful.
My only suggestion is to possibly bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper and it is your first time on the island. The roosters crow pretty early in the mornings, but that's absolutely normal no matter where you stay. Also, the curtains were not blackout, so bring an eye mask if you are light sensitive. I bring those two things with me everywhere anyway, so I had zero issues. My young adult daughter is a heavier sleeper, and did not use either and she slept great.
Overall, we enjoyed it so much that we will definitely stay here again. Thank you!

When we contacted steve he said "that is the tropics. He said the resort sprays for insects, the resort saids it the owner job. Customer has to live with it during their stay.

Very well manicured resort. The view!!! OMG!! Spectacular! The valet golf cart service is a must with it sitting in the side of a huge hill. We never had to wait more than 10 minutes. Except one day at check out time, & the driver told us he was the only driver that day, the others had called off! He got a big tip!
The unit we stayed in was small, but we combined it with the connecting unit, & it was perfect for our family. Everyone (there were 5 adults) had their own space to spread out.
We snorkeled the beach & saw turtles & rays & even a spotted eel! We rented kayaks one day & toured the river. The reef is better around the corner at Hideaway, but parking is very limited there. 9 spots total, & always full. We had someone drop us off. A beautiful beach, worth the trip down thru the tree roots as stairs!

We were impressed by how nice Hannelai Bay Resort is and all it has to offer! This condo is great for a couple - a great view, balcony, bed, large closet, and nice bathroom. No kitchen or anything but a good sized mini fridge and a small set of plateware and glasses are in the room as well.
This condo is located at the back side of the Resort which gives you a view of the bay and mountains behind you, so yes, it is a slight walk from the parking lot but well worth it. Both pools are just a few minutes away and the restaurant at the Resort is nice but a bit pricey for what it is.
I would highly recommend staying here, we loved our time in Kauai and Hanalei was our favorite town! Great shops, restaurants, and beaches.

It was so nice having coffee on the balcony every morning. Resort features are nice and everyone is very helpful. Resort fee definitely adds up on a longer trip but still a good deal for location and I thought was more spacious than pictures and other reviews showed. The resort was beautiful! Great little bar, pools were beautiful, close to Hanalei and Princeville. The unit was clean and comfortable. Not very much storage for clothes, we rearranged some things in the closet/kitchenette to make room. We spent a week in Maui before coming to Kauai and had a lot of clothes! There are laundry facilities close to the unit, and the small pool area has grills and a stove! We would stay here again!

The listing interchanges "hotel and condo," mostly using condo..IT'S ONLY A MASTER BEDROOM OF A CONDO. Yes, there are glass dishes, but NO KITCHEN. To cook, hike a hill with everything you need to the pool . The bathroom only has a standard bath sink so you hike the hill to wash dishes as well. The closet is a standard master bedroom closet filled with organizer racks to outline the refrigerator, coffee pot and microwave. There's very little space left to hang clothes. The staff is very nice and will pick you up in a golf cart & drop you off at the near beach (loved this beach), pool, parking lot or office. It's a bit of a hassle as you need to wait and I felt obligated to tip each time. You can walk to all of these places but the hills are VERY STEEP. The dining table is unusable as such because the TV sit on it. To watch TV you either sit in the dining chairs 3 ft from the screen or on the bed...which is too far for the size of screen. There's no sofa. The bed IS comfortable to sleep in but the linens were worn and stained. The netting above the bed had debris in it. The towels were stained, mold and rot on trim behind the bathroom door. Bathroom light/fan were filthy. The weather was cool so we wanted to turn off the ceiling fan. It's manual and in the vaulted ceiling. The chain was looped up in the unit, unreachable. The owner said to call the maid, who then said she'd come at 10AM so we waited and she didn't come. We stacked things on chair to turn it off. Shabby!

Room has dry rot of baseboards in bathroom. The large TV was not mounted and took the entire dinette table. Only 2 drawers for 2 people's clothing. Small area for hanging clothes only. No ice chest available. Barbecues and kutchen available at small pool.. Dishes for four, but only a flat skillet and spachula supplied. Beautiful view of the mountains and nice vaulted ceiling. Nice spa, but only one available. Note: $275 resort fee in top of rental fee. Parking $10/day very limited and long stretch to condo. Pool bar and large upper bar closed with no open date planned. Likely we would not return with the limited amenities and only tennis available.

Paint is peeling from the walls in several locations inside the condo. Especially in the bathroom.
The laundry that is close didn’t work. When I went to the desk to see if they would send someone down, the night receptionist was rude and argumentative. Gave me my money back and said she would send someone down, she never did. Left us sitting there. Three days later the dryer was still out of service. The resort owes me 75 cents. I wasn’t going back for it again.
Coffee maker wasn’t working, I replaced it and the owner had another delivered that showed up three days later.
The shuttle service at the resort was great. Grounds are beautiful.
I texted the manager and asked where I could find a sit down breakfast. All I was told was the resort didn’t have that. She gave me no info. I did find a list of restaurants in the area at the desk.
The tv is not mounted and sits on the middle of the table which makes the table unusable.

We stayed for a week for our honeymoon. The resort was wonderful. The pool and hot tub were a short walk from the room. The room itself is plenty of room for two for a week as we spent a majority of time exploring the island. Very comfortable bed and pillows. A small fridge with adequate space for leftovers and small groceries for breakfast for the week. Could use a few updates; fresh paint and a few outlets not completely secured in the socket. But otherwise no complaints! We brought our own toiletries for the week as the samples provided are a nice touch but not enough to last two people a week. Great view off the balcony! We greatly enjoyed our time!

What an amazing location! What a gorgeous view! I’m so glad we stayed here, but….From the reviews we realized that the makeshift kitchen was not going to be perfect. And we were prepared for dealing with the hills. We were also prepared to pay the resort fee, as noted in another review, though we do think that should be included in the VRBO description. We expected things to be a bit worn. The price was good. But we were inconvenienced early on due to an electrical issue. We couldn’t reach the host, but the resort staff addressed it promptly. The outlets definitely need to be checked out, and the switch in the alcove needs a sign on it not to turn it off, as evidently most of the outlets are controlled by it. A good electrical outlet was imperative for my husband’s C-Pap machine. We’d expected a toaster, and had shopped accordingly, but never got to toast bread or bagels, as there was no toaster. The coffee pot was not working properly. We use one like it at home, so it was not user error. The old flat screen TV and DVD player sat on the indoor table, making the table essentially useless. The lack of sufficient hooks or towel rods in the bathroom was a problem for drying beach towels and swimsuits. Don’t hang anything on the shower curtain rod, it will fall down, and it’s not easy to put back up! In doing so, a huge cockroach escaped from the shower curtain folds. We got rid of it, but it was too much excitement for the first day! We never saw another. The table on the lanai needs a cap on one of the legs, and it was very wobbly. The beach is lovely if you ignore the mess and construction next door, over which they have no control. Happy Talk was fun for dinner a couple of nights, but we were disappointed the other restaurant wasn’t open. The staff at the resort was wonderful, and I’d stay here again. My husband probably wouldn’t. We had a great vacation anyway, despite these issues. . Aloha!

The Hanalei Bay Resort is a beautiful property and the room affords a stunning view of the Bay. We booked for 12 days here and truly enjoyed seeing Kauai from Princeville! More information needed in the description includes that you will be charged $27.76 a day resort fee and $10 a day parking. The room is located a good 10 minute walk down hill from the lobby. You have to park up near the lobby thus a 10 minute walk down or back up each time you leave your room. They do offer a "complimentary" shuttle but we certainly felt an obligation to tip every time we used the shuttle so add on $5 a day. The listing advertises a new flat screen TV, we had one just like it that was at least 10 years old. The remote to the TV was cracked and held together by black electrical tape. The AC remote had a burn hole in the back of it and we had to stand on the bed to reach the unit to make sure it was cooling. We got past all of those little things and did enjoy the pools at the resort, the beauty from our lanai, and all the birds. Be prepared to be awakened each morning many times by the roosters! If we would have knows some of these things, we would have looked at further properties!

Negatives were parking and resort fees, for the price the upkeep on the room was in need of maintenance. The unit was as advertised and the Property Manager was wonderful and available as needed even still being on the mainland.

There are 2 restaurants on premises, one is closed “for construction” and the other is open 6 days a week from 3-9pm. Bring food and drink!!!
Also, the check in staff was not very helpful but the Property Manager stepped in and ultimately did what they said couldn’t be done. 😀

This place was super relaxing and beautiful. Comfortable bed and great view from the balcony. Only downside was that the listing doesn’t really tell you about the extra resort fee (about 200$). The location is also down a steep hill and it got a little old walking up and down every day to go anywhere, but overall not a make or break thing. We really enjoyed relaxing on the balcony every morning and coming back to a cool and quiet space after adventuring all day. Pool was also fun for an afternoon. Felt very safe and overall had a great time.

Great room with great view. Parking is a bit of a walk to the room, but golf carts are available for shuttling around. Check in process was not smooth as the wrong room number was sent in the email versus what was in the listing causing confusion at the front desk and property owner could not be reached. Honestly, you couldn't ask for a better location. Clean, quiet (other than the many chickens), and world-class views. I arrived at night and when I woke up in the morning and opened my blinds I thought the view was fake, that's how beautiful it is. We enjoyed the spectacular view, high ceilings and tropical charm of the unit. It is small; you do you dishes in the bathroom sink and have no counter space. If you are planning on more than a few days you may be more comfortable in a larger unit with a kitchen or at least a kitchenette. We were frustrated with sound transference between units and maintenance issues. We were told by the resort to contact the owner directly. We did, Steve was very cooperative and genuine. He did what he could to address our concerns. Overall we did not go to Hanalei Bay for the room. The property is wonderful - beauty and nature incredible! The resort staff was extremely friendly and kind. The restaurant was closed for a remodel and we didn’t go to the sports bar, but would highly recommend the food trucks in town. This was our first real vacation since COVID and felt Kauai was safe and welcoming.

I don’t think there’s a better view in the entire island in terms of a hotel or resort, and the entire Resort is entirely at your disposal! You can take rides to and from your room anywhere on the property on golf carts, and there is plenty of good food just around the corner. The walks to the beach are also great. The room itself is very nice, with a clean restroom and bed. Property manager was also very attentive throughout our one week stay.

We loved the setting, little deck, resort, and location in Princeville. Unfortunately, I misread the VRBO category — we always search for 1 bedroom, 1 Bath, and a decent kitchen. We were romanced by the photo of the mosquito netting tied back so beautifully on the bed — and assumed that it would be in place, and in the bedroom. No netting — and the fact that this was a hotel room was a negative for our week-long vacation. I recommend that the owner spends a week there—not using his adjourning condo. Work is needed to hold water in the tub, Update the electrical sockets, a food prep area and cooker would help, and the space should have Hotel Room specified in the first paragraph! We enjoyed grilling in the common area and did 2 loads of wash in the nearby laundry. But our first meal was salmon poached in our coffee pot.

My husband and I stayed here for the final 3 nights of our honeymoon (we also did Maui and Oahu). We were looking for an affordable place to stay knowing we would be out exploring most of the time and not in the room much - this place was perfect for that. It had all we needed - a comfortable bed, AC, a little deck with one of the most amazing views we've ever seen.
The condo is within the Hanalei Bay Resort where there are a bunch of tennis courts, 2 pools, a bar/restaurant (wasn't open while we were there as under construction) - we were busy with planned activities and didn't have extra time to really utilize the resort but seemed awesome. Note that the condo is 5-7 minute walk from the parking lot with some hills. Not a big deal and we enjoyed the walk. A few times we used the 'bell service' (staff in golf cart) especially when we needed our luggage moved in or out which you easily request by calling the front desk and they show up within a few minutes usually. The front desk staff seemed a little frazzled but nice enough, we had no issues.
Outside of what you pay to VRBO, there is a daily resort fee, and a daily parking fee that you owe to the resort when you check out, was not astronomical but just something to note.
We absolutely loved the Princeville area - the condo was a few minutes drive to Princeville town center with awesome food options. We got "The Spot" one morning for breakfast - amazing acai bowls and breakfast bowls, long line but worth it. B's Kitchen for dinner - delicious italian food and really nice interior. Lappert's ice cream - SO GOOD - a must! Also a short drive to Hanalei where there are tons of restaurants and beaches (just be aware of the limited road access schedule, it was only open for certain hours while we were there - the resort gave us a helpful printed schedule for this as well as a list of restaurants, etc).
Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a simple homebase during your stay. We would definitely stay here again!!

Waking up in the morning to the view is worth every penny of the entire trip, it was so beautiful!! It was a cozy place and clean. There’s no kitchen or laundry in the actual unit, but there’s a mini fridge. The resort was very nice!

We LOVED our stay here! The room was clean and nice and the view was magnificent! It was amazing to wake up to a view of the Nepali coast each morning. The resort was also lovely. We enjoyed playing tennis on the courts overlooking the Nepali coast, swimming in the pool and splashing in the waves at their beach (also with views of the coast line). It was a great location with easy access to hanalei and the other towns in the north. We would definitely stay here again!!

I can’t express enough about how great the AC was at this place. There was nothing better than coming back to a cool room after getting hot at the beach or hiking. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. Overall it was really nice!

We were very happy with this property. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed the hot tub and pool after a day at the beach. The bed was very comfortable for a great sleep. The beach was lovely and we would call for a ride up the hill sometimes, if we were feeling lazy. We would definitely stay here again!

My expectations of this property and resort far exceeded my expectations. My husband and I stayed here for the first 6 days of our honeymoon and if I could do it all over again I would book here again but with less initial hesitation. The views from the unit I think are some of the best from the resort. The Hanalei Bay Resort staff was welcoming and accommodating and the resort itself is immaculately maintained with natural Hawaiian beauty everywhere you turn. We took advantage of the many tennis courts (racket rental available for 10 bucks and there are no court fees). The bartenders at the pool and restaurant were fun and provided us with restaurant and hiking recommendations around the island. There were activities at the resort daily that were very great to participate in (MaiTai Mondays/Yoga). We are avid hikers and there were a number of breathtaking hikes within a short drive from the resort and there was a grocery store 5 mins from the unit. My ONLY complaint is that there was not a way to wash the dishes provided in the unit other than in the sink/bathtub, which was not really an issue just a tad cumbersome. Yes, there are roosters that will wake you up but we purchased some headphones or accepted the early wake up call and got up to explore all there is to do on the amazing island. Do yourself a favor and rent this unit! We will certainly be doing so again.

The unit has one of the nicest locations in the entire resort - views are spectacular. I’ve rented in many other locations in Kauai and this place is special. The air conditioning worked perfectly and fridge etc all nice touches. Bed and linens are very comfortable. I see that some other renters have complained about no cleaning supplies etc. The resort staff help with anything you may need and we found absolutely no issues with the unit’s supplies. The owner was very quick responding to any request/question during my stay. Would stay here again!!

The place is super small with no little or no cleaning materials. The hot water stays on for maybe 5 minutes max. Archaic small fridge. Run down inside and outside. Parking is very difficult and a ten minute walk to the complex. To top if off, we have to pay a daily rate for the complex ($20/day) plus parking ($6/day) which was not advertised. Very overpriced for what you pay for. Renter be aware!

View from property NOT unobstructed - it is limited. The property owner MISREPRESENTED this suite as being suitable for 4 people. IT IS NOT. There is only 1 bed and NO ADDITIONAL WALL BED OR SOFA BED. We had contacted the owner directly prior to departure to make sure that it was suitable for 4 people and were assured that 'yes, we're all good to go'. We arrived late at night and were shocked to find that our two teenage boys had to spend the first night of our vacation sleeping on hard, tiled flooring until the owner provided an inflatable mattress from storage for the 2nd night AFTER WE HAD ALREADY DRIVEN TO WALMART TO PURCHASE ONE FOR OURSELVES!! Since when is an inflatable mattress considered an acceptable sleeping option in any vacation rental unit?!!
There is no kitchenette; only a leaking mini-fridge in the closet (that soaked my son's shoes) and 2 person coffee maker. There were only 1 wine glass and 3 forks. Previous reviews of this unit being poorly maintained have not been addressed by the owner. There is no cleaning service or cleaning supplies/equipment available for use, so we spent 10 days in a dirty unit. There are no toiletries provided so we had to do lots of shopping to make up for the many deficiencies. The Hanalei Bay Resort needs to tighten up its contract with these privately owned units. The communication between the front desk at check-in and to address deficiencies is lacking, disorganized and poorly reflects on the resort itself.

The online listing for this property is very accurate. This one bedroom condo had everything we needed and more. The views are spectacular and we had a great stay. The Hanalei Bay Resort is a very friendly place with all of the amenities one could ask for. The staff is very courteous and willing to go to any lengths to make your stay a positive experience. The Happy Talk Bar and Grill has excellent service and really good bar food. The three pools on the faculty were never crowded and we enjoyed all three at different times during our stay. This 22 acre facility is large, but we always had a golf cart ride just 5 minutes away by calling the front seat. The owner of this property is very responsive and a joy to work with. When we return to Kauai, I would definitely stay here again.

Liked: the beautiful views from the balcony, the comfortable bed.
Disliked: the bathroom smelled moldy, and it looks like the inside shower curtains haven't been changed in a while as they have mold on them. Also the bathroom sinkhole smelled like mold. That would be my main complaint is the slight mold smell in the bathroom. A good bleaching and change of shower curtains should help. Also chickens crowing at early morning like 5am, I know is not a fault of the property, but something to be aware of if you are a light sleeper.

I have stayed at Hanalei Bay Reaort before. The resort itself is good. Kauai is overpriced to begin with, and the daily fees from this resort sure add up. The room was fine, we knew that it had a small kitchenette and mini fridge. However, there were no coffee cups to go with our coffee maker. The silverware, cups, etc could have been stalked a little more. We had to wash the dishes since they looked dirty. Also, there were two feminine sanitary napkin wrappers in the bathroom drawer. The shower head had visible mold in the holes. I understand that being near the Pacific Ocean is going to cause some mildew. However, for the expensive price and $30 daily rate, it would have been nice for the cleaning service to actually clean the place. I know a few things about the resort, and I believe that this room is owned by someone who rents it out to vacationers. I think the room is fine, but if the resort is responsible for the cleaning, this owner and renters are not getting their full money worth. Also, the bartender at the Ukelele Bar self tipped himself. I wrote $5 on the tip line, but he went ahead and tipped himself $8.50, right over my signature. I will be calling the resort about that one. My parents have been staying here two weeks each year for 20 years. You can’t beat the view, the pool, and other amenities. This resort is not for someone wanting a fancy extravagance. However, I certainly would hope no one wanting this would be going to Kauai. Go to Maui if you want that.

We stayed in 2 connected units with my family - my parents were in this unit, and enjoyed it thoroughly. They said the bed was very comfortable, and the unit had everything they needed. The view is amazing! The steep walk down and back up to the lobby/restaurant/parking lot could be a challenge for some, but you can call the front desk to have a golf-cart sent for pick-ups.
