At the top of my five star ratings was Laura, the property manager. She knows this island very well and readily shared her thoughts. More than a property manager, she was the best concierge for our group of Girl Scouts, moms and younger siblings.

House was as pictured- and comfortable. Had a couple blips- but these were addressed quickly. A little noise from roosters and early am car traffic. But overall had a great stay here. Easy access to everything we wanted to do- and some great restaurants right in Waimea.

Red Ohana is the perfect location to see everything on the Big Island, while providing a lovely and restful retreat. The house is spectacularly clean and well appointed with lovely Hawaiian touches. There are grocery stores just a few miles away in Waimea and a Wednesday and Saturday farmers market with wonderful fruit, veggies, and fish to purchase. Laura was a perfect host - super kind and helpful. Excellent base to attend the Hawai’i Performing Arts Festival.

My husband and I got married at Anna Ranch Heritage Center in Waimea and booked both Red Ohanas for our wedding party. It was the perfect weekend and we can’t thank Laura enough for a magical place to stay!
Very comfortable beds, fluff and fold + cleaning service throughout, and a fantastic location. We will definitely return in years to come :)

So comfortable and a great location. We were attending a wedding a Kahua Ranch and it was so easy to get there. Would definitely stay there again!

We stayed in the 3 bedroom/ 2 bath Red Ohana property. The home is spacious, spotless, and includes all the amenities we needed. Laura is a great hostess. Checkin was seamless- we just walked in! Location was the prime reason I chose Red Ohana. The best white sand beaches are minutes away.

We rented the Ref Ohana 3 bedroom. It was spacious and comfortable. The beds were great. The kitchen and eating area were great for a group. The patio was beautiful. I’d definitely stay here again.

Red 'Ohana has it all: a rural setting a short drive from the Kohala beaches (we preferred Spencer state park to the better known and larger Hapuna), less than 40 mins to Waipio Valley (the shuttle, the only way to get down, is definitely worth it). The house is very comfortable, awesomely well-equipped kitchen, very quiet Owner is super nice - lives a few houses away.

This place has it all, comfortable beds, plenty of space, toiletries provided, plush linens and towels. Laura provides everything to make your stay in Waimea amazing. Would definitely book again.

My family had a fantastic time staying here, especially with our friends’ family staying at the smaller house at the same time. The larger house is perfect for gathering people from both houses for dinner, making plans to see the volcano, the observatory, the beaches, or just hang out. There’s fresh air, quiet, and a lot of little geckos for the kids to examine. Would definitely stay here again!

The home is just as advertised. Clean, roomy, comfortable, well appointed, and ideally located. The owner is a pro who is attentive and kind. If you are looking for a central location away from the resorts, the Red Ohana house is for you. Thank you Laura for making sure our stay was so memorable!

June 2023
The house is beautifully updated with clean, comfortable furnishings. Plenty of high quality linens for beds, bathrooms and kitchen.
Only suggestion would be to have bath mats as the bathrooms are tiled and is slippery when wet.
The kitchen is well appointed with full array of table ware, plates, stemware, and glass ware. A complete kitchen for cooking. Several ways to make coffee, from a keurig, to French Press and a pour over melitta style. Electric tea kettle and traditional tea kettle on the stove.
The garden and deck are clean and well maintained. The yard has nice grass and plants. The deck had table and chairs and a nice gas grill. For a day at the beach, Boogie boards and beach chairs were available as well.
The house is cleaned twice a week and is well maintained.
The location was perfect for our needs and would recommend to stay another time.

What a wonderful stay at the Red Ohana! The house was immaculate, spacious, quiet, and ideally located as we were in town for HPA graduation right across the street. Communication was top notch, and we appreciated all the amenities provided. We would love to stay at Red Ohana again if and when we make it back to Waimea. Thanks so much for making us feel like such welcome guests. Mahalo!
April 2023
Red Ohana was clean, comfortable, spacious for our group (4 adults, 2 kids), and well equipped with everything we needed. Waimea/Kamuela is a great spot, with a grocery store and wide selection of restaurants in town, just a few minutes’ drive from Red Ohana, and the perfect location for us to use as our base to explore Big Island with our kids (both under 10). A lot of the sites are a bit of a drive (45-90 mins) in Hawaii, but Waimea is well placed between Hilo and Kona for access to some of the key things — as long as you are good with driving some days. The 1-week itinerary on the Red Ohana website is worth checking out! Lots of great ideas. It is cooler and breezier (sometimes damper) in Waimea than Kona, but that was a nice relief to come back to after a hot day on the beach. Loved our stay. Mahalo, Laura!

The 3br Red Ohana was a great place to stay in a good, central location. The house was as advertised; clean, comfortable, and well stocked.
We would definitely book another stay at the red ohana.

March 2023
We have stayed on the Big Island many times and this was our favorite place. The house is extremely comfortable and well stocked. It is very clean and Laura is a top notch host. The location is fantastic for better restaurants in Waimea, good coffee, and ease to the North Kohala beaches.

The Red Ohana house was everything you could want and more. Laura checked in with us several times and was very helpful. We would stay here again every time we visit the island.

Stay was clean and especially enjoyed the soft beds for being on vacation. Good amenities. Only concern was the driveway into the place as an elevated area, angling the car if your car rides low should be done with care.

January 2023
We were immediately impressed with how beautiful and clean the house was; very spacious for our family of 7. We found Laura our host, to be very responsive when we had questions. We liked the location as Weimea is a cute town with fun farmers markets and some really great restaurants. The town is pretty centrally located so we could do day trips around the Island to take in as much of the Big Island as possible!! Always felt like going home after a long day exploring. We’re very sad to be going home.

July 2022
We had an amazing stay at Red 'Ohana! Great family trip with 6 adults and 2 kids (ages 5 and 7). The home was clean, beautifully maintained with a cozy paniolo feel. Laura was a great host and made the process easy. Home is a quick drive into Waimea town, with a nice central location to both Kona coast and Hilo side of the Island. Would highly recommend and can't wait for our next stay at Red 'Ohana.

March 2022
We enjoyed our vacation on the Big Island and our stay at the Red Ohana! My family of 4 found the house to be clean, comfy, beautiful, and well appointed. We loved staying in the cooler temps of Waimea and the ocean beaches were only about 15 minutes away. This home is very close to wonderful amenities - grocery store, drug store, restaurants, coffee, and shopping This property felt like an oasis after a busy day, away from the hustle and bustle of tourists.

February 2022
Great location, easy to find
Secluded yet just 5 min from Waimea so grocery shopping and other items was super convenient
equidistant from Hilo and Kona so was easy to commute around Big Island
Was lucky to have Volcanoes erupting went late at night and also complete our Manta Ray night snorkeling
Must stay for family and friends to spend time at the property as well as enjoy day excursions available at the Island

January 2022
My husband and I just spent 8 nights at this property and we had a great experience. Waimea is a beautiful part of the island and we appreciated that we could easily access the beaches of the Kona side but also make a drive to Volcanos National Park for a hike. The property is absolutely immaculate. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to cook but not cluttered. Our hostess, Laura, is lovely and has found an excellent balance between leaving you alone and when we needed something it took just moments to reach her. A wonderful place.

Extremely well appointed place with a great rec room for the kids. Great location on the island let us see so much without retracing our steps over and over.
Laura had great recommendations and was so flexible with our group. We really enjoyed our time and wouldn't hesitate to return in the future.
5 stars all around.

Loved the Red Ohana. The layout was perfect to travel with extended family. The location is perfect for us--close to Waimea (shops and restaurants) and close enough for easy drives to our favorite beaches. We will be back!! Mahalo to Laura for the lovely accommodations and making everything so easy for us.

June 2021
Red Ohana is located in a beautiful landscape surrounded by mountains, minutes from town, but very peaceful. We stayed three nights here and used it as our base while we explored Waipio valley, all the way to Hilo on the east side. The place itself is very spacious and good wifi for working from home. It doesn’t have AC, which we would have appreciated as it got pretty warm during the day. The kitchen has cookware but only salt and pepper, but the grocery store is only a couple minutes away. We saw some ants on the dining table, but later realized it came from a flower that was left on the table as decoration. Once we removed the flower, the problem was solved. There were also a couple lamps/lights that weren’t working, but that didn’t impact us much. Laura was super communicative throughout our stay, very prompt with responses. Overall I’d recommend to folks looking to stay on the north side!

April 2019
We had a fantastic week at Red Ohana over spring break with family. It was beautifully decorated, tidy, and well equipped (including everything you need for beach trips, from chairs to boogie boards to coolers). We enjoyed spending days on the coast and then retiring at night to the cooler climate of Waimea. In addition, we were spoiled by the included concierge service, which helped us arrange several trips whale watching and reef snorkeling. We'd love to go back next trip to Hawaii!

January 2019
The Ohana was perfect for our two families. The bottom level worked very well as a separate kid space. The twice weekly house cleaning was an extra bonus as was the concierge service. Waimea was a good base for exploring the island as well.

Laura and the Red 'Ohana team have truly mastered the 5-star experience. Both houses are immaculate and every design detail is perfectly executed, offering a comfortable, relaxing, and truly memorable experience. The property is in an excellent location -- beautiful weather and views, 5 minutes from Waimea town, and 15 minutes to some of the island's best beaches (the best of both worlds!). Laura went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and provided great local insight. Mahalo for the amazing experience! We can't wait to come back. :)

August 2018
Our family group of 7 (5 adults, 2 young children) had plenty of room to spread out in this 3BR house and felt very much at home. Great beaches are less than 20 minutes away and Waimea downtown area is maybe 5 minutes. No A/C needed with the cool breezes at 2500 feet of elevation and the vibe “up on the mountain” is very low key and relaxing. There’s a very new and interesting playground for kids in town that they will enjoy. It’s nice being away from the touristy scene at the shore yet it’s not far at all if you want to take in some beach time. House is spotless with an all new look in furnishings and appliances. We will be back some day!

July 2018
We recently spent 11 nights at the 3BD Red 'Ohana and could not have been more impressed. Our 3 kids attended a month of summer school at HPA - which is LITERALLY right across the street. It felt like a home away from home. The location is prime, right near the branch of Kohala Mountain Road and Rt 19 Kawaihae Road. Because we were moving from a timeshare in Waikoloa, we asked if we could store our groceries before check-in time. Both Nathalie (Guest Concierge) and Laura (owner) were so accommodating, not only letting us store our groceries and check-in early, but upon check-out, they let us stay later, again to help with preserving our perishables and waiting for our next residence's check-in time. Upon arrival, the house was freshly cleaned and extremely welcoming with little touches like music and lights on. Thoughtful details abound such as red vinca flowers lining the side of the house to match a shiny, red garden hose and a red mailbox, white outside house lights line the house and stairs at night, giving just the right amount of visibility, a first aid kit is neatly tucked under one of the sinks, and the bedding is plush and luxurious. We barely knew that another family stayed at the close by 2BD during our stay. The owner has done a marvelous, tasteful job of using shrubs and landscaping for privacy, yet still offering a large, open space feel to the property. Some of our favorite things about the Red 'Ohana were the daily doses of sunlight shining into the kitchen area, sprinkled with glimpses of more rainbows than I have ever seen, cool breezes, my kids loved the large, partial "basement" and games stored under the big screen tv. As a mom on vacation, I especially appreciated the twice a week housekeeping! I would rent again in a heartbeat - a great value, a great experience, and a great host/owner. Thanks for the memories!

It was such nice stay, beautiful house with well equipped facilities. Owner and manager were easy to communicated. Only one suggestion is that the drive way on the way in is too steep, it can easily to scratch the bottom of the car.

I haven't been to the Big Island in 20 years. This was my husband's first time. The accommodations were superb, the staff delightful. I would recommend this resort to anyone who wants to feel at home when they are away from home. The beaches were 15 minutes away, the town of Waimea was cozy. If you do stay here, I recommend the Red Water Café for dinner. The atmosphere was warm and inviting.
Will I return? Absolutely without question!

We loved our stay in this beautiful home in Waimea! Laura and Nathalie were absolutely wonderful hosts...making sure all of our needs were met. This comfortable, spacious home, with full amenities, is ideally located to explore all parts of the island from Hawi to Hilo. It's close to Waimea town with plenty of shops and restaurants and also only 15 minutes to beautiful white sand beaches. The surroundings are lush and green... almost every day we saw a beautiful rainbow! We highly recommend this home for your Big Island vacation!!
