This was our second time at this condo. The place looked as new as when we saw it 2 years ago. Kitchen is well stocked with cooking and baking ware. There were plenty of towels for bath and beach. There were many extras like beach chairs, snorkel equipment. Lovely view of water from living area. Management was very responsive to questions I had.

We enjoyed our time in Kauai. What a beautiful place, We drove all the way from Poipu to the edge of the North Shore. Thís room is centrally located and perfect for that. The weather wasn't great but we made the most we could of it. The bed is small (full size) and the mattress and pillows are the pits. Needs a good upgrade there! Thanks

Had a lovely ocean view from our lanai, area in the middle and easy to get to Princeville and to Poipu. Easy walk to restaurants, food trucks, etc in that area. Bike rentals close by with a nice wide bike lane alone the beach…price is right and would stay here again

The unit is fantastic with everything you could need for an enjoyable stay. Has all the kitchen appliances, two snorkel sets, beach chairs, cooler, etc. The property is great as well, with pool, jacuzzi, and lots of activities. The ONLY complaint about this unit was the mattress was so stiff that it didn’t afford a comfortable sleep any of the nights.

We had a great time at this condo! My new husband and I wanted a quieter, non-resort type place to stay for our honeymoon and Pono Kai checked all of our boxes. The condo was perfectly stocked with kitchen, bathroom and bedroom amenities and we were so grateful there were some beach toys available for use as well! We loved the decorations and CDs of Hawaiian musicians to listen to while cooking dinner. We loved being able to sit on the patio right next to the beach, sit in the hammocks on the property, and use the pool/spa. We would absolutely come back here for a future vacation!

The best feature of this rental was definitely the location. Both the site of the condo by the seas with great views, but also on the island itself as it was well positioned for many of the activities.
Comms were great and check-in was smooth.
The condo was decorated / equipped in a basic style which was no problem for us as we stayed for only 3 days. May have had a different view if we were there long term.
If I could make one suggestion to the owners it would be to review the cleaning arrangements. Cleanliness was just ok and I think the overall unit would benefit from a deep clean. Just a suggestion.

We spent 3 nights at Pono Kai resort during our recent visit to Kauai. We enjoyed the ocean front location, exploring to local beachfront and proximity to Princeville for a day trip.
The unit was exactly as advertised, well equipped and even included beach items (beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear and ice chest) for our use.

This nice one bedroom condo was in a well maintained complex on the east side of the island. We felt we were close enough to drive anywhere we wanted to go. Wonderful waterfront condo on the paved walk/bike path in Kapa'a. Comfy bed, well appointment kitchen and loved the equipment you could check out...croquet, pickle ball, golf putters, bocce. Walking into old town Kapa'a was easy on the path. Lots of food trucks and art galleries.

This place is perfect for anyone that has already done the "Resort style stay" and doesn't require resort amenities for $1000-1200 per night. With a separate bedroom, living room, full sized kitchen and dinning space, this place is more than big enough to feel very comfortable. Located on the east side of the island, you will wake up to an amazing ocean view right from the ground level lanai! The entire grounds are well maintained and directly on the boardwalk that will take you right to your favorite locations in Kapa'a. Centrally located on the island, makes it easy to visit both the north and south shores of the island with a quick 30-40 minute drive.
After roughly 15 stays in several locations on Kauai, and most recently at the Pono Kai Resort, I would definitely booked my next visit here again.

The location is wonderful, oceanfront. But the closest parking is quite a ways away. Visitors should be aware of this as it is quite a walk with luggage or groceries. We are 2 adults staying for nearly 2 weeks and we were supplied with 2 towels each, 2 rolls of toilet paper total. The unit was listed as having a DVD player so we brought DVDs from home as there is nothing new on TV due to the writers strike. There was no DVD player. It took 2 days of phone calls before one was provided. It appears that some of the drinking glasses have been broken as there wasnt a complete set of most sizes. We have rented from VRBO many times and this was the nicest unit we have rented, but it does need some improvements.

The central location was great as we could be anywhere on the island within an hour or so. The dining options in Kapaa were very good and we ventured out to more options in surrounding towns. Nice condo in a resort complex. The complex is a mix of time share and privately owned condos. The town of Kapaa is very nice, it's a small town, and very laid back. Beaches are close enough to walk to. You do look out at the ocean and are a few yards from it, however it is not a sandy beach, but a rock retaining wall. The sandy beaches are a short walk to the right and the left.

Oceanside unit the best we have rented so far and we have rented many. Clean, well stocked, newer everything. We love being 40 feet from the ocean and the path to watch all the bike and walkers. Kapaa is the essence of Funky town and we love that. Pono Market is steps away for authentic island cuisine. Locals line up here. Lots of restaurant choices and healthy donuts made with taro at the Holey Grail food truck. Lion coffee at Longs is the best deal in town. I could go on and on .

We were looking for a getaway from Minnesota’s winter. This property was a wonderful choice. Perfect for our needs and budget. Manicured property staffed with very professional and cordial employees. The ocean front ground floor condo location was amazing and we enjoyed the walking/bike path in front of the unit. Not too close however. The organization/layout of the supplies in the condo was very nice- it was certainly noticed. The unit could not have been cleaner.

We had such a lovely time during our stay. If you're trying to decide which side of the Island to stay on we think the East side is PERFECT! You can get to the North and South side easily. This particular rental is first floor where you can sit on the patio and listen to the ocean. We watched the sunrise every morning. You have full access to the resort amenities. We rented bikes for the week from Hele on Kauai Bike rentals, a short 2 min walk from the condo. It truly was a highlight of our week riding the trail that runs in front of the condo. You will have everything you need while you are staying here. Including a fully stocked kitchen, toiletries, beach chairs, umbrella and cooler. We promise you will love it here!

We had a great stay at this clean and well stocked condo. The decor was refreshing and property management staff was helpful and so kind to add a personal touch by leaving a hand written welcome note and box of chocolate covered macadamia nuts. Property management also extended the kindest courtesy by providing an early check in at no charge which we were incredibly grateful for. The amenities included included beach chairs, beach towels, boogie boards, and a cooler which often is not the case in other condos we have stayed at. We were able to enjoy our daily excursions that much more by taking these with us. A wonderful experience, we will be back!

In addition to the stunning location, the owners go above and beyond to make your experience memorable. From the Welcome gifts, to the stock of basics (plastic wrap & foil, spices, basic oils, teas, everything but the beans for coffee, & more), solid internet and TV access, to providing beach chairs, boogie boards & coolers, to their great communication. They are committed to a great experience for their renters.
The location of this property is ideal-- with respect to the town *and* the resort property. We rented bikes nearby (check yelp for hours, options are limited based on the time period). It was *so* fun exploring the trail.
The Resort: The facilities of the resorts look terrific. We enjoyed the pool and hammocks. There were lots of grills available (and tools in the unit), but we were't there long enough to enjoy. The resort had some ability to check your luggage and keep access after check out.
Also, the resort laundry was very convenient, affordable & they have change machines (Cheaper & more econvenient than at home).
This property has two check-ins & Check outs-- from the unit and from the resort. It was easy, just took extra time.
The access to Lihui airport was a key factor when choosing this place. The resort can provide trusted rides to the airport.
We'd stay here again in a heartbeat. It was a fantastic experience.

Our stay in unit B106 at Pono Kai was perfect in every way! Updated & clean, our unit served our needs. The property management company was quick to respond to our questions and check in & check out was a breeze! They even let us use the chairs and beach coolers for the afternoon after checking out while waiting for our red-eye flight home!
Would not hesitate to recommend this property and will surely come again - our favorite place to stay on the island!

This condo is a hidden gem. The property is stunning and in a perfect central location. It was intensely clean and bathroom/kitchen were updated. Plenty of extra towels and linens. Having the ocean sunrise at our backdoor every morning made this place so beautiful and relaxing. Just what we needed! Wonderful kitchen allowed us to cook meals as a family. We also enjoyed the outdoor barbecue and pool and jacuzzi. I would return in a heartbeat— didn’t want to leave!

We loved this unit! There is so much more than the pictures and the description describe. You are literally at the beach. Gorgeous sunrises on the ocean every morning. It is in a great central location. We took advantage of the common BBQ grills of which there are plenty and I highly recommend The Fish Express for local fish market. The swordfish is incredible! This condo also was well stocked with everything you need for a day at the beach. U.S. Diver snorkel gear. Great boogie boards, beach towels and beach chairs. Whales were seen right off the water and easy, comfortable bonfires at night. Excellent pool and hot tub too! Dawn was great to work with and we will certainly stay here again! One of the best! Thank you for the perfect condo!

I stayed for the month of January in this unit. It was very clean and comfortable and I felt very safe there traveling alone. This is an oceanfront unit and you can watch the beautiful Kauai sunrise from the lanai or even sitting on your living room sofa if it's too chilly to go outside! I rarely ate out so the modern and well equipped kitchen was perfect for me. The bicycle/walking path out front is very convenient. I was able to walk north to the library and south to the grocery store and post office. The traffic can be bad in Kapaa so it is nice to have an alternative to driving. Also the bus can take you most anywhere on the island from here. Pono Kai is in the middle of Kapaa so it's a very easy walk to lots of restaurants and shops. There is a nice pool and hot tub and lots of activities in the resort. Best of all there is a little beach right in front that I visited every day. Parking was always easy. There are ceiling fans in both rooms so I never needed the AC. I especially liked the in room safe which I used a lot since the house we were renting before I stayed here was robbed during the night! The management, Island Rentals, was very responsive and helpful.

This condo was the perfect getaway for my husband and I. It was very clean and had everything we needed. Perfect view of the ocean and so close to shops and restaurants, that you could easily walk! Great bike rental right next door and right in the middle of the island, so going north or south was easy. The resort was kept up really well and had all sorts of fun things to do on sight. Well kept pool and hot tub.
The condo had extra beach chairs, sunbathing mats, umbrellas and beach towels and all of our interactions with Dawn were wonderful! Thank you so much for such a wonderful place! We WILL be back again!

Location, Location, Location! This condo in Kapaa is great for exploring Kauai with a enjoyable drive in ether direction. We stay in this unit every year for part of our three week Holiday. Ground floor and beach front is the way to go! We have stayed at a lot of different locations on the island and by far this is one of the most memorable places we stay each year. The Orange fence was gone this year but honestly in years past I didn't even remember it. Morning Coffee? Java Kai is walking distance! Shaved Ice also! "Work it Out" Cool shop for new running Shoes. My wife loves to run the bike path at sunrise and we usually share a walk at sunset. Our kids are 6 and 9 this year, they love the pool and the activities at the complex! The real treat is the bike path, both our kids learned to ride bikes here! Wifi at the pool is slow but that just helps me to disconnect! Dawn and Lou, thank you for another great visit! Cheers! We have stayed at Pono Kai at our family time share for many years. Our family has outgrown our unit and are delighted to have found this one at the same property. Upgrades are very nice. Great lighting, beach toys/chairs appreciated. Pono Kai is an older resort so if you are looking for the Marriott it is down the street. We love Kapaa it has a relaxed neighborhood feel. The unit is on the ground floor which I liked because I could walk out the door right to the beach. It does mean you can't leave the door open while you are away and sometimes hear the people above you. But it is a worthwhile trade off for me. My only wish is for an A/C unit in the bedroom but these were built with the unit in the main living area. Fan was great. Check in was easy, entire renting process went smoothly. Will be back.

A great location from which to visit the rest of the island; Proximity to ocean, beach, bike/walking path are major points. The only thing from a "5" would be improved patio furniture and a larger TV. Some might find the lack of soundproofing from other units to be an issue but it did not bother us.

We stayed at the Pono Kai resort for 2 weeks. We had a ground unit looking right out at the ocean and the bike/walking path along the beach. We loved sitting on our lanai with a drink watching the pigeons, chickens, birds, people, boats and whales. The property was very well maintained and beautiful with lots of grassy areas and bbq stations. The only downfall was that I couldn't get the wifi to work in our unit. I kept going to the office and they would get it going and told me it should work anywhere on the property but as soon as I got back to our unit it didn't work again. The other is the traffic. We didn't get a chance to see very much of the island because it would have taken too long to get anywhere with bumper to bumper traffic. The unit was updated and very nice and located in a central location allowing you to walk to shops and restaurants. The Olympia restaurant was the best in our opinion with lots of good food and left overs to take home with you. I would recommend staying here.

This is a wonderful condo with many amenities! My Dad and I visited Kauai for our second time and wanted to stay in Kapaa for its central location and proximity to airport, grocery shopping and restaurants. We were not disappointed! The price is great, especially considering that this condo is directly on the beach. As an added amenity, the owners have provided beach towels, lounge chairs, water "noodles" and a boogie board. The beach in front of the unit was calm and safe for swimming. Several days we even spotted whales from the lanai! Pono Kai is located on a paved walk/bike path and there are bike rentals nearby. We found the condo to be very clean and well stocked. The grounds of Pono Kai were well maintained with plentiful parking nearby. The area seemed safe and well-lit at night.
Previous reviews seem to dwell on the "orange fence"...yes, there is an orange plastic mesh fence between the condo and the beach, however it is there for safety because the beach appears to be eroding. The fence is not very long and only took me about 1 minute to walk to either end of it. As with any situation, you can either choose to focus on the negative or the positive. We chose to focus on the beautiful sunrises and I hope you will too!

This is our last evening at Pona Kai and we enjoyed the experience. I am a property owner on Kauai (our unit was booked) so I decided to spend 5 nights at Pona Kai. 'The unit has been upgraded since the pictures were taken. Everything was clean and in very nice condition. The orange fence complaint was truly pretty ridiculous. This is Kauai--everything takes forever to get repaired and it is a very minor thing. The owners have provided everything you could possibly need. We had snorkel gear, backpacks, a cooler, suntan spray, cooler ice blocks, etc. etc. We didn't even need to go to our own owner's closet to get our gear as it was provided in this rental.
I would definitely return to this unit. Thanks for the hospitality!

Condo was very clean upon our arrival. It appeared to have been very well maintained with bright colors. This condo is on the ground floor, and the orange protective fencing out front interfered with our view of the ocean. Our friends were on a second floor unit in another building at the same resort and their view was unobstructed so we spent a lot of time at their condo. The grounds of the resort were clean, and it was a great ammenity to have gas barbecue's throughout the grounds for our use. The roosters and cats were plentiful! It is a good location to go north or south and we were very busy kayaking, snorkeluing and hiking for our week there. We ate the majority of our meals in, not out and found the local prices higher than the mainland but reasonable.

I am not one to complain about rental units,but it is important that I review this accurately. The best thing about this unit is that it is just steps from the beach, however there is orange fencing that blocks access to and views of the beach directly in front. You have to walk way around to get down to the beach. As for the unit, it is very outdated. Unfortunately, the fencing fronts a good portion of the complex, but it is something that should be disclosed to someone renting a beautiful ocean-front unit. The kitchen in literally falling apart. The freezer door is covered in rust, and the edges of the countertops are crumbling. The toilet in the bathroom does not flush and there is a ceiling fan that seems like it could fall off the ceiling. The paint is outdated and ridiculous. Some of the amenities that are referred to in the in-unit book, are missing. The Pono Kai is a very nice complex with a lot to do and you could get a much nicer place. The rental company was incredibly rude when we called to make our payment. Go to Kauai and stay at the Pono Kai, but not at this unit.
