Very clean and lovely house; a pleasant surprise to find it was so much nicer-looking than photos in listing. Very clean, without a noticeable mildew problem as many other Volcano homes have.
There is a ton of free firewood for use, kitchen is nice, and house is in a beautiful forest setting. It also has a great lanai that's secluded from street views in the back for enjoying the greenery.
Kristilee was a responsive host and let us check-in early without extra cost :)
However, we are very private and also have concerns about AI and how image databases are used and stored, so knocking off one star for the fact that the house has multiple security cameras that were not mentioned in the listing. We strongly prefer to know how our images are being recorded & used, and so usually don't rent places with cameras without understanding said info.

Spring break travel with my husband and 3 of our children (15yo, 11yo, 7yo). Property is in a rainforest and has no central heat or air conditioning. - it is not needed. Extra blankets provided. Wood burning fireplace warmed things up. Firewood and fire starter was provided. Yes, there is a musty smell upon entry (remember you are in a rainforest and the house has no heat or AC). It didn't bother us. Appreciated spices and oil supply for cooking. Uses a tankless water heater. Had no problems with hot water. Kitchen cold tap water pressure was a little low but did not effect cooking, cleaning, drinking.

The location and accommodation are terrific for a visit to the park. The water system at the house is very slow and so bringing a supply of bottled water is a must. Getting hot water for cleaning and showers takes a long time and would have been frustrating on a longer stay. Also the TV in the master was a minor inconvenience as it would not function.

I know someone who had a horrible experience renting on the Big Island so I was glad this home is owner/represented by a large known realty company out in Big Island. That really reassured me. Location is great because it's very close to the entrance of Volcano NP. We thought the floorplan and decor was nice. The surrounding lush plants and trees made us think we were alone in the middle of a rainforest and we loved it!!! The home is located in a quiet neighborhood and all amenities were pretty good. I did read prior reviews of a musty smell, which we noticed, however that part of the island gets enough moisture and dampness (thus the lush foliage everywhere) that it's expected. We went in August so didn't have any issues with the night time temperatures, however, we did still use the fireplace because it was there and set a nice mood at nights. We also couldn't find any dishwashing tablets so we contacted the property manager and she returned our call within 5 minutes. I would rent this place again and definitely recommend it.

The house is lovely and new and set in the greenery so you feel like you're completely private. Musty mildew smell is strong when you first come inside, but disappears after leaving the windows open for a few hours. GREAT location for the Nat'l Park and Eagle's Lighthouse Cafe, which has great food and better people. We'd definitely stay here again.

Pros: Close to NP; newer/modern home; secluded and quiet
Cons: None really. Kindling for fire would be nice.
Be aware you are staying in a wet area of the island that can get relatively cold. We had great weather and it still rained each day of our stay. We made the mistake of not firing up the fireplace until the third day. Once started, the fire warmed things up nicely and removed any dampness in the House. With the ceiling fans on it was very comfortable. Would highly recommend you do this during cooler weather. The house is on a one lane dirt and gravel road - but fine for cars if you take it slow.

We were pleasantly surprised to find this diamond in the rough VRBO amidst the lush rainforest of Hawaii. The unit was modern, clean, and well stocked. We did not have trouble finding the house and it was very easy to enter the unit with the instructions given. The beds were comfortable and we did not feel cold in the evenings as some reviewers mentioned in the past. The kitchen was well stocked and we had everything we needed. I would give this VRBO six stars if I could!

Our stay here was amazing. We were maybe 6 minutes from the entrance to Volcano National Park. The house looks like it is from the pages of Homes and Gardens. It is so nicely appointed. The bathrooms are all gorgeous along with the gourmet kitchen. I can not say enough about how gorgeous it is! Pictures do not do it justice. If we ever come back to Volcano, this is where I want to stay.

The house is well appointed and comfortable. The location is rural but convenient to HVNP. There were a few issues - the guest bedrooms are only double beds - we were two couples traveling together. It would have been nice to have two rooms with queen beds. There was only one hair dryer that needed to be shared so that was a bit inconvenient. But our biggest issue was the smell. It was very musty smelling due to no air circulation, no heat or air conditioning. Because of the climate, the furniture and rugs feel damp. If the smell issue could be addressed, this would be a four star review.
