We went to Pahoa to visit family and we couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay. The rental was comfortable and we loved the views, outdoor shower and nightly serenade by the coqui frogs. Manfred and Elfie were so gracious, helpful and accommodating during our entire stay. We would definitely stay here again!

Great place to be with awesome owners living next door. Cottage like feel in a house with three apartments. Nice patio and beautiful view of the ocean at the end of the street.

Better than I even imagined. Beautiful and comfortable both inside and out. Great Wi-Fi! Husband and I worked several days and appreciated that there are two tables set up in different rooms and really appreciated that the Wi-Fi was awesome! Neighborhood is lovely and took a short drive (on Elfie’s recommendation) to see where the 2018 lava had traveled in nearby Leilani Estates.

We had a great stay at Manfred & Elfie’s place! Loved the outdoor shower! About 30 minutes from Hilo (loved the Farmer’s Market) and just under an hour from Volcanoes National Park. Very short walk to the scenic beach for the perfect morning sunrise! We spent a very relaxing week in this secluded spot. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

This was such a comfortable spot for us. We really enjoyed the safe neighborhood, our friendly hosts, and the proximity to ocean viewing. During our visit, the surf was pounding which was exciting. We understand during milder weather, one can watch turtles here. We were OK not seeing them as the wave action was fantastic. This is a spacious suite with a full kitchen and 2 bedrooms. Our bedroom had a king size bed. Best sleep I’ve experienced on the Island. We enjoyed the coqui frogs lulling us to sleep at night. We were a party of 3, myself, spouse, and my sister, so we appreciated having such a large apartment. Hawaiian Beaches is about 4 - 5 miles from Pahoa. We made several driving trips while here. To Pahoa - recommend Tin Shack Bakery and the free Olympic sized community swimming pool, the fruit/veggie stands on the road to Hilo. To Volcano - Kilauea was spewing, fantastic views with binoculars, Thurston lava tube walk was impressive. To Hilo for the Saturday market, Japanese botanical gardens at Liliuokalani Park, turtle watching at Richardson Beach. To Lava Tree Park where we just happened on the Music Monday group jamming. Apartment is very private but Manfred and Elfie are just next door and were so helpful when we had questions. They have created a special retreat here which we highly recommend.

Well we weren't supposed to need a place, but what "gem" we found.. Elfie and Manfred were the host hostess you can have... Our granddaughters stayed the weekends and it was no problem. Other places said NO KIDS but they were ok.. with ours.. we even had Thanksgiving there..... Wonderful 😊 We will definitely come back!!!

My second stay in this Hawaiian escape. "Perfect" describes it. Very welcoming host...incredible views...true Hawaiian feel...perfectly stocked...breezy...beds are so comfortable...and...my favorite, the outdoor shower. Outdoor space equally perfect...picnic table...barbecue grill. Love it!

Beautiful property. Our host Elfie, who is nextdoor, is sweet and attentive. The only learning curve are the serenading frogs at night. I used earplugs which worked ideally, my wife said after two nights she didn’t notice them any longer. I would come back just for the outdoor shower…need one of these in my life! Just a comfortable, relaxing stay.

Elfie and Manfred were friendly hosts. Elfie greeted us on arrival and showed us the amenities, making sure we had all the basics. She also pointed out the extras, including a guidebook and a cooler and beach towels for outings. We had lots of space to spread out inside and out, since it was only two of us. I sometimes ate breakfast on the patio, even on rainy mornings. The king bed was comfy, with a ceiling fan to help cool. If you're a light sleeper, I suggest earplugs to block out the constant creature (I think frogs?) sounds at night. The floors are stone, so bring slippers if your feet/joints need support. The outdoor shower was splendid, and hosts provided body wash, shampoo and conditioner. We spent our days driving to different destinations (waterfalls, Volcano Natl Park, beaches, Mauna Kea), and this house was a great place to come back to after a long day out. Restaurants and a grocery store are also quite close by. The house is indeed a short walk to the island's edge where you can watch waves crash against the cliffs. I conversed with the hosts a few times, and they were always amiable and gracious. They love sharing their home with new people. Overall, it was a great stay for a once-in-a-lifetime trip

I traveled to the Islands with my son. We loved the stay at Elfie and Manfreds property. Although we did not meet Manfred, Elfie was a delight. The property was quiet (from city noise... the frogs chorus serenaded us to sleep each night) and private, I could enjoy my morning coffee on the patio with the Geckos, then we could travel all over the island from the locale. We would 100% stay again. Thank you so much

We were very comfortable in this Pahola retreat. We were within 30 minutes of Hilo and Pahola has a modern grocery store, restaurants & amenities. Our rental had a gas grill and complete kitchen. We also enjoyed a private outdoor shower. The grounds were lovely and the host (Elfie) was helpful & delightful to talk to

The King size bed is VERY comfortable! I enjoyed the outdoor shower. The neighborhood was quiet except for the frogs...but I enjoyed their night long serenading. I will definitely request to rent the Garden Apartment when I visit the Hilo side of the Big Island. I enjoyed the decor and all of the seating areas. The kitchen was nicely stocked with everything you need to cook all of your meals. There was even a coffee bean grinder. Be prepared for limited cell phone tower reception. I would trade the proximity to the ocean and the beauty of the area for better cell phone reception any day of the week. There is an awesome road that goes for miles two streets toward the ocean and to the right. You should travel it by day before attempting a night drive.

This little apartment was perfect for our visit to the Big Island. The unit was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Even though we did very little cooking, the kitchen was well-stocked with pots, pans, utensils and dishes for cooking any type of meal. Elfie is an excellent hostess and checked in a couple of times during the week to make sure we were comfortable.

Frederich and Elfie are amazing people and spare no attention to detail when it comes to accommodations and amenities! Beautiful location, quiet neighborhood, and is a 2 minute walk down to the ocean! Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a non-touristy location, that is much better than any hotel you can get on the island. You absolutely will not be disappointed!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this peaceful, spacious and secluded haven, 2 blocks from the ocean. What a gem! One can see the pride that the owners take in their place: bright and modern facilities, with attention to every detail. The owners are very considerate and kind, and treat you like family, whilst leaving plenty of privacy. We felt right at home, and will definitely return for more island magic. Viewing the flowing lava at Kapalana is easy from Pahoa, as also the lava in the crater at the Volcano Ntl Park. This tropical side of the island has its own charms for the nature lover. Lots to experience here. So glad we came.

This 2 bedroom suite is clean and very comfortable. The hosts Manfred and Elfie are very kind and gracious. The weather was sunny and around 80 all but 2 days of 26. We found the people here very friendly and helpful. We went for a walk every evening along the little old road by the ocean and seen the sunrise many mornings 2 blocks away. A rental car is essential to seeing the many sights and experiences within driving distances. The nearby tide pools, volcano, turtles, zoo, vistas, farmers markets and scenic roads are amazing. The internet connection disconnects sometimes and has to be reconnected. The outdoor shower was great and private and backyard perfect for evening relaxation. The tree frogs sing every night. Altogether, the best place in this area.

Manfred and Elfie, It was a pleasure to meet and visit with you. Thank you so much for sharing your charming apartment with us. We had a wonderful visit. We enjoyed the outdoor shower, it was new to us. The use of the washer and dryer was very much appreciated. We will stay again and recommend the apartment to others.

We had a great stay with Manfred and Elfie. What a bargain for a place all to yourself. They were gracious hosts giving us space but also being available for questions. A bit of noise from the upstairs tenants walking around, but otherwise great. Outdoor shower was fine. Nearby Pahoa village had a couple of good restaurants, Pele's kitchen, Kaleo's, Aloha Lehua (for cheap eats).

Manfred and Elfie, the owner/hosts make you very welcome. A restful quiet place and reasonably priced. Lots of artistic touches to enjoy. 2 blocks from the ocean, great sunrise photo opportunities. Pahoa, Volcano and Hilo an easy drive from here. I'd definitely stay here again.
