The property was lovely, with many personal touches. Thank you for the comfortable king size bed! We especially enjoyed that we could literally see the jungle out of every window and the coquis serenaded us to sleep every night!

This place felt lived in, in a good way, like staying at a friend or family's cottage. Good vibes and the pleasant sound of frogs at night. The kitchen had everything we required and we enjoyed the selection of snacks, treats and fresh fruit provided. The fresh cut flower arrangement was a nice touch too and the fragrance was so lovely. Our children enjoyed the selection of kids books in their bedroom and the ample living room couch spaces for lounging. A great home base for our Pahoa and Hilo adventures!

The house was great for my friend and me who were meeting from distant places. Two full bedrooms and two full bathrooms, a very well-equipped kitchen, and a screened porch. We were completely satisfied with our stay. The property manager was very responsive and pleasant. The island is beautiful, and I really doubt you can find a less expensive place to stay that would equal the space and amenities.

My wife and I stayed seven nights in this property during our trip to Hilo. It was perfect for our needs. Easy access to the Belt Road (HWY 11) and Hilo. Well equipped kitchen, spacious living room, large master bedroom with a comfortable bed and two bathrooms. Plenty of room for a family with kids. We would certainly stay here again when we return to Hilo.

Great location: 30 minutes for Hilo, 30 minutes for Volcanoes National Park, 30 minutes (including the drive & short walk) to the most beautiful black sand beach I’ve ever been to. This house was clean & comfortable and tucked away in a quiet little neighborhood. We enjoyed family dinners ever night on the screened in patio and listening to the white noise provided by the rainforest after that.

This quiet oasis is nestled in the true Hawaii! My family stayed here and have NO COMPLAINTS. We wanted to be off the beaten path, we wanted to mingle with the locals. We experienced framer markets, volcano mountains and gorgeous waterfalls. Our 7 days here was just to short! This island it’s already calling us back. Our hostess was amazing, the cottage was airy, surrounded by rain forest, you get the nights of the coqui frogs beautiful songs, mornings just a quick 15 minute trip to the cost for sunrise, 20 minutes to hot pools at Issac Hale Park. You want vacation this is it. We will be back. Thanks for the memories.

The house in payola is amazing and there is so many good things to do in that area ! The tropical lush green rainforest and all of the attractions just on that side of the island makes this house centrally located to everything and it’s a short drive to the volcano national park which makes it even more desirable ! The owners are nothing but super good people and are very personable and helped make our two month stay a success ! They are also in the real estate market and we are consulting with them on a future purchase on the big island of Hawaii ! They are very knowledgeable people and I would recommend their services and their house to anybody !

This home was everything we were looking for. It is comfortable with indoor and outdoor living spaces. It is private, surrounded with vegetation and sounds of nature. While private, it is just a short drive to downtown Pahoa and not too far from Hilo. Allowing pets was a bonus for us. Nestor and Lucena are excellent hosts. Highly recommended!

Met or exceeded expectations in every way. We stayed for 3 nights. The location suited us. Volcano national park, green sand beach. Hilo, and also a day trip to hapuna Beach Park.
We made breakfast at home and cooked dinner.
Good times!

Perfect little house for a peaceful getaway in a quiet neighborhood. House is nicely stocked with essentials, Wi-Fi, Netflix, washer/dryer, and a nice screened in lanai to enjoy the evening breeze. Close to nearby shopping, restaurants and fruit/veggie stands selling local produce.

Perfect place for a stay with kids. Very nice master bedroom well thought out even a tiny alcove with a rollaway crib for the little tykes! The TV is super stocked with every service you may want at night. The house is well stocked with everything you need. Perfect great room! Nice cover for your car and to grill. Excellent internet. Off the road in a quiet location. I would recommend it to a family arriving to the Pahoa area.

The house was really great for what we needed. It was large and had a great lanai which we spent many hours in. It had a full kitchen and bbq that made cooking really easy. We were working remote for the time we were there and the house had plenty of space for us to be on simultaneous conf calls. It may not be best for touring the area as you are pretty far from touristy spots… but if you don’t mind that, it is a perfect spot!

I am from pahoa and have family in the area so this location was perfect. Its At the top of nanawale so you don't have to drive far down a subdivision like most never-ending neighborhoods on island. The house was well kept and the owners were kind enough to put the lights on for me as I arrived late. It is a private home which I liked and the description was accurate and had almost everything I needed. The selling point for me was another guests review stating privacy. Some travelers may like getting to know owners or neighbors etc but I like my privacy and these owners were completely helpful and respectful of that. The queen bed was the most comfy bed I've ever slept on and it is a home for families for sure. I was surprised by the kids books and games, very family oriented and a nice touch. My niece was learning to read so I spent time with her with books I remember reading as a kid. The outside picnic table and grill were selling points too. Make sure to pick up charcoal! Quiet street with few neighbors, no loud barking dogs or chickens, just coqui frogs. There is an abundance of edible native ferns in the backyard, adding good omen to the property. The only thing that bothered me was the gap in the screen door , but if you keep the door shut you'll be fine.
All in all I was happy with this rental, it's supplies, location, condition and upkeep and would definitely recommend this unit.
Thank you for sharing you home nestor and lucena!

First, the owners are fabulous. They really want to be sure you enjoy your stay. Can't ask for better people to work with.
The house is large, well-kept up, and clean. Plenty of room. The little things were good, too. Shower had plenty of pressure, plenty of towels, etc. Wifi was fast and reliable. The description and photos are accurate. TV was Roku only.
This is a great place to stay, but be sure it's for you. It is centrally located for things on the Hilo side, but that means it's 20 minutes from most things. You are out in the country, on a dirt road. But that means you don't have a bunch of noisy tourists hanging around. Just the frogs to sing you to sleep.
All-in-all, a great place to enjoy the Hilo side.

My father in law lives locally and having stayed in this cute home was the best! We were able to go back and forth as if we were neighbors! We had our own space and the kids really enjoyed watching TV. We truly felt at home and we will def request to stay here again!! The owners were so kind they even left a gift for us to open on Christmas Day...the kids really enjoyed that. I could not have had a better vacation. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!!!

This house is clean, comfortable and provided all the necessities. Centrally located in the Puna district, it is close to to Pahoa for groceries, gas, etc., and not far from all the other areas you might want to see on this part of the island. I do recommend this rental.
October 2014
We had a fantastic stay. The place was nice and clean and it had everything we needed. Plenty of beds for everyone. Our children could run and play outside, watch tv, or use the Internet which is much better than hotels at the end of the day. The kids didn't want to leave. We saved a lot of money making our own food and ate better having a kitchen. The jungle setting was amazing. Beautiful ferns right outside our windows. Tide pools, fishing, surfing, warm ponds just down the road. 5 minutes to a cute old town with stores and some really good restaurants. My husband could get his prescriptions refilled at longs which was helpful. So many things on this island WOW. Lastly, the volcano. How many people can say they stayed so close to a live volcano. That's just cool. The people's spirit and culture here should be experienced if you want to learn about aloha and the real Hawaii. We didn't want to leave.

We chose this rental because it was central to the area of Hawaii that we wanted to evaluate to purchase a bit of land. Additionally it was my brother and his girlfriend's first visit to Hawaii, and they wanted to use it as a hub to do a bit of vacationing.
While my girlfriend and I had vacationed several times in the Kona area, this was our first month's stay on the Hilo side. I must say, the best part was meeting and talking to the people in the Pahoa area. Everyone was so friendly, quick to welcome, and genuine. Everyone seems to have a story and we exchanged quite a few with the local population. We felt like the Hilo side of the island was more like the "real" Hawaii. It was like stepping back into the 1960's, everyone made us feel like it was our home too.
I first thought it would rain a lot in the Pahoa area, but typically it rained only during the night and the days were very pleasant and sunny. Not too hot during the day, and not too humid during the night. Very comfortable, so no air conditioning was required..
While using the rental as a hub, we did do all the day travel trips around the Island, from Kona to points north and south. My brother and his girlfriend enjoyed every minute, from seeking out the Black Sands beach, to diner at the Hilton in Waikoloa, to seeing the lava flows at Kalapana and Lava Tree Park, to exploring along Saddle Rd and the Hamakua coast.
We found the rental to be an ideal spot to return home to after traveling about the island and returning home from evaluating property. The picnic table was our favorite congregation spot, and the outdoor barbeque provided countless meals, from Ahi that a local resident caught to steak and vegetables that we purchased from the Malama Market and nearby farmers market.
The rental was equipped to provide the basics. With two bedrooms and two baths, it was ideal for two couples. Plenty of parking (free I might add), and the nights were void of traffic noises and full of nature's sounds. The owners were very pleasant and accommodating. and while they live locally, they respected our privacy.
