BEACHES & CRITTERS: The beach size in Hawaii varies month to month due to weather, heavy surf, strong currents, and tides. Due to Maui’s rural setting, you may experience the occasional rooster, as well as harmless geckos. Geckos are friendly, eat insects, and are considered good luck in Hawaii. Please don’t kill them. Although the HOA schedules regular professional pest control services, pests such as ants, roaches and rodents simply cannot be completely controlled in the tropics. Maui is in a tropical climate. If our guest spot more than the normal expected pests, we always make our best efforts to contact and work with the HOA to minimize your interactions with these pests. Any contact with such pests within or outside the unit does not constitute a breach of this Agreement or give Guest any right to any refund or rental adjustment.

No complaints for what it cost. Location is great. View is spectacular. Very quiet. On the downside, the bathroom needs a lot of work and the louevred windows need repair. The place could also use a deep clean, a new couch, and pillows that aren't all extra firm. If they also add actuall AC rather than a swamp cooler and a dozen fans, they could probably charge more.

Unique spot right on the water with turtles near the shore! Very well équiped apartment with all you need, including cooler, chairs, foil and soaps for everything. Very confy.

We had a great stay at the property. The location is fantastic and views were incredible. Watching the sunset every evening from the comfort of the patio was the highlight of our trip. Our only qualm was that the listing stated there was AC, but there was only a portable unit in the living room that couldn't be felt if you weren't within 10 feet of the machine. All of the fans were nice to have but the bedroom was warm as we stayed during the month of July. I would recommend either putting an AC unit in the bedroom or changing the description. Thanks for a great stay, host was incredibly responsive. We would come back!!

My husband and I truly enjoyed out stay! It was so great to wake up every morning and enjoy breakfast on the patio and listen to the ocean. We saw many sea turtles right out our door. It was great to have a kitchen. We loved that there were beach chairs, a beach umbrella and beach towels for us to use. We also really appreciated the two fans in the bedroom and the air conditioner in the main living space. Thank you for a great stay!

We have stayed at Kahana Reef three times and love the location. This unit is a ground floor which we like. I felt the management company was very prompt when things came up. They also left laundry detergent and dryer sheets, which was a nice plus there was also snorkel equipment available. I felt that the posting saying it was recently remodeled, was not quite accurate as it seems like it’s been some time since that actually happened, these units get a lot of use and it definitely felt a little tired. It was not 100% clean when we arrived there was hair in the shower drain and on the wall and I think the bathroom drawers should be wiped out. I also think they should replace the hairdryer and the lanai furniture both were pretty old. We really like Kahana reef because it’s very laid-back and we’ve met a lot of nice people who are around our age which is retiree age. The grounds are nice too.

Wonderful experience here with our stay. Priced appropriately, given size, ammenities, and location. Patio off the living room, with views of ocean, islands and water front were amazing and where my wife and I spent most of our time when home. Bed was comfortable, place was clean, and provided a great home base during our visit to Maui. Highly recommend this place to anyone!

This place is one of a kind. Very beautiful view even though we stayed on the ground floor. We were right by the bbq, and the pool. The sea wall had turtles every single day feeding off of it. We also saw other ocean life right off of the property. Our kids are 4 & 6 and they loved the pool. However the rules of the pool made it a bit challenging to have fun, but many guests and residents were happy to let my kids just play and be kids. Some still wanted silence, which we respected and went to the beach.
Check in was super easy and the unit was fairly clean. There was one hick up with bedding not being clean, however I only mention it to say that the owner and staff rectified it that day and were very happy to assist us with any other cleaning issues.
We would not hesitate to stay here again and we have stayed on the south side of the island as well. This would be a great place to host a family vacation, couples retreat or even a solo trip. Great condo!

This is the second time we’ve stayed in this pretty and clean ground level suite. We were just feet away from the sea wall on one side and the private beach on the other. The property was beautiful. I couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else or in a different suite. Upon arrival we had trouble accessing the suite but the Property Manager was immediately responsive and helped us learn the process to open the two locks on the main door. He checked in later to ensure everything was working and asked us to let him know if we needed anything at anytime. Excellent customer service! Thank you.

Fabulous view of the turtles and the whales. We loved meeting the other guests on the property. One downfall, we felt a little uncomfortable due to having to wait so long for a response from the property managers. There is no front desk on the property to go to ask questions, which we are used to having when we've stayed on other properties. However, the two maintenance people that came in to replace the DVD player in the main room and the TV in the bedroom were very courteous. We stayed two weeks and only received one dish rag and one dish towel. Also, only two sets of regular bath towels. So plan on bringing your own unless you want to spend your vacation time doing a lot of laundry at their coin laundry facility that is on site. Bring quarters too, no change machine. We also received only 1 serving of coffee, so plan on grocery shopping right away. Even when you stay more than one week, you get the "minimum ammenities". (Say that 3 times fast)! :) The bed and bedding was super comfortable, and the hide-a-bed was very comfortable to sit on, which most are not. The reason we marked it down for cleanliness was, the edges of the floor hadn't been cleaned in quite a while, and we found a piece of broken glass in the kitchen. (Also there was a 3 inch centipede crawling around in the bedroom when we arrived, we saved him and gave him a new home outside.) We chose this place because it had air conditioning, however it is a Pinguino unit attached to the louver windows in the living room only. It worked well the keep the main room cool. The bedroom had three fans to keep it cool. All in all we really enjoyed ourselves and the area.

The mattress of the bedroom was so old that it has a sinkhole as large as a giant watermelon. I called the managing company 3 times and they never called back, never show up like they said they would. Contacted VRBO too and they said they can send a message to the managing company but they can’t do anything about it themselves. We ended up sleeping on the floor :/

We had a wonderful time at Kahana Reef. Every evening was a relaxing time, enjoying a glass of wine and watching the sunset. It was nice to come back after a day of touring the island to our comfortable and quiet place at Kahana Reef.

The property is very quiet and nicely kept. Just know that there is no shade in the grass area or around the pool. It would have been nice to have a couple of umbrellas around the pool area to help with the lack of shade. We had an issue entering the unit but the property management sent someone out right away to resolve it. No central air (which I was aware of), however the portable unit is very, very loud so if you leave it on and you're trying to watch TV, you must turn TV up hoping you don't bother the people next door. Had a freezer problem that hopefully they will resolve before the next guest tries to use it. It wasn't such a big deal for us that we needed it taken care of immediately, however I did notify the property management about it. Could have used more towels. Only 1 dish towel provided, only 2 bathroom washcloths for a 7 day stay... Also, not sure if it was an oversight but the queen size sofa sleeper linens only included 1 pillow case. Lucky it was just 1 person sleeping on it..... Beautiful view which makes you overlook the small issues with the unit....

Excellent location. Was a little worried about being on the ground floor but glad we did. Close to beach, 30 steps. BBQ was right around the corner and pool was 50ish steps away. Only complaint was bedroom could use an A/C. We knew it didn’t have one but it did get warm even with fans on. Overall very happy with this unit

The view from this unit is stunning. Bring binoculars during whale watching season and you won't be disappointed. Also appreciated how simple check-in was. We were able to just go straight to the unit at check-in time - no additional stops, credit card swipes, or key pick ups.

This is ocean front living. We loved our stay here. So nice waking up in the morning and sitting out watching the ocean in front of you. Very nice condo. I was not sure if I would like a floor level unit with people walking by. It was not a issue for us. Everyone was respectful and quiet. If we ever make it back to Maui we willlook to stay here again.
