Do I have to fill ALL of this in? Just to say we really loved the house?

We stayed here after staying with family in Poipu. This was our time alone. The first evening we invited the family, which was flying out on the RED EYE, to dinner. They all loved the setting. We grilled that night. The grill needs to be replaced immediately. The GUTS of the grill have rusted all the way through and have collapsed on themselves. We did grill but held our breath when lighting it. The house had everything we needed and then some. There were treats and Kauai Coffee waiting for us. Although it had no air conditioning, we didn't need it. The cool breeze and fans kept the home comfortable. I loved the outdoor shower! Coming from Montana, I found this fun. Need heat in the shower? Stand in the sun, haha. The only down side was the fan in the small bed room needed dusting.

This home is beautiful and well-equipped. I love the plantation style of architecture and the expert restoration. I must say I have never operated a double hung window with a few fingers!! The view, the privacy, the proximity to Waimea and that outdoor shower are my highlights. I have never had a “shower rainbow” before! Cinch, the neighborhood welcome pup was great company. The furniture is beautiful, beds are comfortable, and there is a blender, huge salad spinner a crock pot in the kitchen! Overall, this is an ideal place to stay.

Words can’t describe how incredible this property is. Even though the pictures are stunning, it still doesn’t do it justice. Management thought of every little detail and the amenities were very considerate and top notch. Short drive to anything you could need, especially dinner at Wrangler Steakhouse (yes, it’s a necessity). Highly recommend star gazing in the back yard, I got to witness my very first shooting star. The sunrise was absolutely breathtaking! I can’t say enough great things about our time at the Ishihara home, already planning our trip back.

It is a really great home & location. But the house next door is under construction, probably for another year. So each day there was some hammering, sawing, nail-guns, air-compressors, cement mixers and some other annoying noises. But other then that, it was a really awesome place! I would recommend it to anyone.

Ishihara house is a very special house. It possesses a certain soul and dignity and is wonderful to be in. It sits high above the town of Waimea in a little neighborhood of local residents. It boasts an incredible view up the Waimea River to the mountains and to the west, the ocean is visible in the distance. It was always breezy during our stay and we loved to sit on the porch and enjoy the view and the sounds of the local roosters. Very restful.

This property is phenomenal. You will LOVE staying here. 1) never have I felt so welcome at a rental property (normally you get there and are bombarded with instructions and signage on all the things not to do and to beware of extra charges etc etc. Not the case here - little welcome things in the kitchen and lovely accommodations) and 2) what a special property! Property is a stunning plantation cottage that has been beautifully updated and expanded, allowing it to feel rich in history while providing every amenity. The view - WOW - and all the outdoor space and seating you could want to enjoy it. Quiet and peaceful location. The breeze from the ridge location creates the perfect indoor and outdoor temperatures. Love the luxurious outdoor shower set up. Fluffy towels and soft linens. I cannot say enough good things about this property. Normally the rental is just a place to sleep for us, but not this place - this property is truly special and was a highlight of the trip. I wish we had spent more time at this property (plus Waimea downtown and canyon are spectacular. And Polihale state beach is amazing) instead of heading to the north side. don’t get me wrong, the north side of the island is incredibly special, I just loved this property! Such a welcoming, peaceful, special home.

This is the only place I would stay in Kauai. This house took my breath away and I’m excited for when I can come back.

My husband and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon and loved our stay! The house itself has so much character, we especially appreciated the antique furniture and open floor plan! The view up the gorge is pretty incredible that makes staying at this home entirely worth it! We wish we could have taken more advantage of all this house had to offer, we even said it would be fun to come back with a larger group! The location is nice and tucked away and right at the bottom of the road to drive up to see Waimea Canyon. It’s managed by a vacation rental company so check-in was different than typical VRBOs we’ve stayed in, but the host was accommodating when we wanted to check in after hours.

The Ishihara cottage is a unique and wonderful place to stay. With gorgeous views of the canyon and the sea, and plenty of space both inside and out, it is a marvelous place to breathe deeply and truly relax. I loved being at the end of a street and on a hill in a quiet residential neighborhood (well, quiet except for a few local doggies and of course the many roosters in valley below!) The cottage has an amazing zen-like energy and we hope to return. Highly recommend this place for solo travelers, couples, or families with kids. Proximity to Waimea Canyon can’t be beat and the small boat harbor @ Kekaha (less than five minutes away) is a great place to take a NaPali Coast trip.

Very private and quiet neighborhood, except of course for the island roosters. You can’t get closer to Waimea Canyon, with spectacular views from the house. We enjoyed the furnishings and aloha vibe. Good reading and resource material too.

The Waimea house is a wonderful, peaceful stay. The house is located at the edge of Waimea's town strip - easy access to food and stores. The house is at the access road for the Waimea canyon, the drive is nice and relatively short. The west side of the island is quiet and provides plenty of downtime. There is easy access to Kekaha and the parks. The house is very well stocked. There is everything needed in the kitchen. The windows provide a great breeze. The lanai is a great spot to sit and relax. There is a distant ocean view. The house has plenty of privacy. The wifi is strong and reliable,

Really cool house on the edge of the canyon. Great sunrise and open space along with adequate lounging areas including the back deck. Would definitely stay here again.

This home was far beyond any our expectations. Staying here we felt was literally like our other home. The house was clean, quiet, peaceful, with amazing views, and was easy come and go! The Ishihara Home is beautiful inside, the breeze from the surrounding hills and mountains keeps the place cool and nice, there is no need for any AC! The back deck is a wonderful place to stay in the evenings. Do not hesitate to book a stay here, I cannot think of anything that could have been better.

Such a wonderful visit and our hosts were incredibly responsive to our requests. There’s only 1 bathroom but for a couple it was an indulgent amount of space. We’ll be back!

The house is beautiful and in a good neighborhood; close to Waimea Canyon for great hiking. My only complaint, and it’s significant to light sleepers: there are a LOT of dogs in the neighborhood and they bark a lot in the evenings, and off and on during the night. If you’re a light sleeper like me, then it’s a big issue. If you’re not, you probably won’t notice. That said, I did enjoy my stay - the house is very spacious and well equipped and I loved sitting out on the back deck watching the ocean. Do note, you will hear the highway from a distance as you’re on a bluff. The communication with the property manager was excellent; the only snafu I had was expecting my check-in directions sooner per VRBO’s communication; in fact, they give directions only 48 hours in advance. Not a big deal, more like an issue with VRBO than with the property itself.

The pictures on vrbo don’t do this house justice. It’s a beautifully renovated old Hawaii house with old wood floors and trim, large kitchen, large lanai beautiful outdoor shower (trust me) and a friendly neighbor cat and dog. The views are good and it gets a nice evening breeze, and it feels like Home. Only drawbacks are that it’s not really walkable, and it doesn’t have a dishwasher or air conditioning. However we didn’t find those to be a problem and the wonderful fans and windows kept the house pleasant even on a 90 degree afternoon.

Fantastic property! Immaculate and beautifully decorated (online photos are outdated). Lovely quiet neighborhood setting. The home owner lives across the street and extended us the kindest hospitality. The setting is great- enjoyed meals on thr patio, overlooking the canyon and beach.

Wish I could leave a glowing review but we never got to check in. The property manager’s assistant called a week before our arrival date to tell us renovations were ongoing and the house wouldn’t be available. They offered us a hotel room as our only alternative, and the barest hint of an apology. It also took multiple messages to get a response from the owner to cancel our booking and process a refund, although once action was taken, my card did show a full credit. Hopefully this is a one-off circumstance because the house looks lovely and we were disappointed that we couldn’t stay.

Loved the old time feel and seclusion of this property. Was a perfect "staycation" for me- living on North shore of Kauai and it was so special to be able to bring my dog - we all loved it!

This was a wonderful house for two couples visiting Kauai for a long weekend. They had everything we needed. Check in and out was flawless. They even worked with us to get our two forgotten water bottles back. I highly recommend!

We loved our stay at Ishihara House. It is an excellent location for relaxing and unwinding from your hectic Mainland schedule. The location, set up above Waimea Town at the mouth of the Waimea Canyon, offers breathtaking sunsets, stargazing nights and sunrises that can’t be equaled. The house is comfortable and pleasant, rustic, a lovely mix of old and quirky plantation style.

We were here on business and the Ishihara Cottage location was perfect. It was only 5-10 minutes from the site. The Cottage itself was beautiful and charming. The old style plantation decor set us back to the time of old where life was simpler yet had all the modern conveniences. if given the opportunity to return to Kauai, I would definitely stay at the Ishihara Cottage,

If you are looking for semething quiet with a beautiful view on the surroundings ... Here you are. The house is really wide and nicely decorated. We never got tired of having breakfast or dinner on the terrace looking at the landscape and the numerous rainbows

The house was so much bigger than expected. Lots of room, and the furniture on the patio was so comfortable and fit our large group. It was a nice change from staying in usual tourist spots, the view from here was priceless and close to our favorite westside beach.

Not your average stay, fascinating character home with an amazing view of Waimea Cyn and the ocean. We hit Waimea on an unusually rainy week but still were in the best location on Kauai for sun. Home is clean, well appointed and comfortable. Kitchen well stocked, BBQ a plus. Should be noted, no AC and no trade winds ( our week) but still cool enough with ceiling fans. Abundance of fresh linens and towels. Washer and dryer got lots of use. Chickens only add to the awesome atmosphere. So peaceful and quiet at night. Enjoyed all the local eateries and a relatively quick drive to Poipu for larger selection. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We had such a wonderful visit to Waimea and can't recommend the Ishihara house enough! The house is beautiful, the porch is where we spent most of our time, the kitchen is fantastic and the view even better. There are beach chairs and towels that really was the cherry on top. Cheers!

House is as pictured. Excellent gas grill and deck that has a view of the valley and sea. Coffee every morning and cocktails every night. There are multiple roosters on the island and one who thinks dawn is at 4 am in the valley- he needs to be on a plate. We chose the house for kokee and Waimea canyon. Perfect.
