Hanalei Bay Villas #9 Reviews

August 2024
The reservation and checkin process were very easy, as the owners are friendly and responsive. The villa is clean and well-appointed, with a well-stocked kitchen and fins, masks and chairs for the beach. Our kids were thrilled/disappointed at the awesome collection of old movies, as there didn’t appear to be a way to play them. The view from the balcony was beautiful, a wonderful way to start your day with coffee and the resident flora/fauna. I should note that the downstairs balcony is shared by both bedrooms, so if you have curious kids, keep that in mind. The location of this property is perfect. It is walking distance to Hideaway beach across the street and to the Hotel One beach next door, which has much calmer water. You are able to get food and drinks from the pool bar at the hotel, but not allowed to swim there. They did say that they were working on a day pass system for the pool, but it was not finalized yet. Our only possible complaint about this property would be the lack of air conditioning. I’m not sure if it is a cultural thing in Princeville, but our condo in Poipu had wall units online the bedrooms and it made an enormous difference in the temperature and quality of sleep. During our stay, the bedrooms didn’t really cool down until 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning. That said, none of the individually owned properties in Princeville seem to have AC, so we would definitely stay here again and had a wonderful experience.

The location to the beach and beautiful landscape views make this place a gem. If you like to exercise, the path to town and back is a good morning run. We had everything we needed except more time. We spent almost two weeks, but could have stayed more. Thanks for sharing your place. I hope to return someday.

Amazing view, beautiful accomodations, awesome landlord. We enjoyed every minute of our stay! Coffee on the deck while enjoying an amazing view, sweet smells, bird songs, and ocean sound. Home was well stocked, kitchen, laundry, beach supplies etc... Beautiful neighborhood, just can't say enough about our stay. We hated to leave. Lori, communicated checkin process and gave us some suggestions on local sites and eats. She made sure I had her cell and email for any questions or issues. Our only issue was we found it very hard to leave...we loved it here!

We had a lovely stay at the Mountain View villa. Always enjoy staying in Princeville. Villa layout is comfortable with all the amenities. Close to a couple beaches, all though it is quite a hike down to both. We enjoyed the Hanalei Bay beaches! Would definitely recommend to others to stay here.

We had a great time on this property. Walking distance to Hideaway beach and the beach right in front of the 1 resort. Gorgeous location! The house is well maintained and had beach towels, chairs, and coolers. We would highly recommend this location.

We love the place. I especially appreciate the Hawaiian interior. And since this year super fast internet (not that you need this in beautiful Kauai). Thanks for letting us stay at your place.

The villa was an excellent place to stay for our time in Princeville. Hideaway beach is right across the street and it is a true connivence when you watch everyone else wait for a parking place. We took advantage of all the activities in the Princeville area and the location of the villa was perfect. It had all the amenities you could ask for at a VRBO.

Booked this property for its location and we weren’t disappointed. It was clean, comfortable and had good amenities. Some minor issues: no curtain/window covering on master sliding door to balcony so very bright in the morning and no privacy if others went onto the shared balcony. Master ensuite shower tap continually dripped and the door to the toilet/shower area was very hard to close.

This was one of the best vacations our family has had in a long time. Thank you for sharing this piece of paradise. Hanalei is the best experience I’ve ever had on the Hawaiian islands. Hopefully it’ll always be there for us to return

May 2023
very well appointed kitchen. sharp knives, very nice pot sets plus nonstick skillet set. just couple minor suggestions: more and bigger microwavable mugs, a colander

Comfortable accommodation with a beautiful setting and view. Convenient location on north side of Kauai. Relatively quiet and peaceful, other than some noise from construction in the area for one or two hours each morning. Would stay here again. If arriving after dark, parking lot entry posts with unit numbers are difficult to see, as are the unit numbers on the fronts of the villas. The tennis court on the opposite side of the street from the villa is also difficult to spot in the dark. We spent about 10 minutes looking for the correct parking lot and villa when we initially arrived after dark.

We had a great trip. The location was perfect. Near beaches and benches for sunset viewing

November 2022
Lovely little house with great view. Yes, it is a full own building, not just a condo. The location is awesome, close to the beaches. A few stairs or steep path to either hideaways and PuuPoa. We will come back. Owners react very fast if something needs to be fixed. And yes, as mentioned before there is no air conditioning, which is normal in Hawaii. We were totally fine with it.

The property is in a lovely location, check in process smooth. Owner let us check in early which was very nice. The unit had lovely views and good backbone but the property had a number of maintenance issues, missing door hinge, bathroom vanity drawer held in place with cardboard. Large screen tv with large white stripe going down the middle, missing smoke detector burnt out stairway light, noisy fan, gurgling toilet and sticky doors. The unit was also in need of a deep clean. I brought these to the attention of the owner who responded quickly to some of the items. Unfortunate that the some items needed repair while we were there which put a damper on our ability to enjoy ourselves and there was no compensation for this inconvenience This property could be very nice if it was well maintained

The location is gorgeous and rental description is pretty much accurate. However, there is ongoing construction of resort across from rental. It starts early around 7:00 and lasts all day. The nearby beaches are beautiful but you'll have to navigate 190 steps to one and down a steep incline with rope ladder to the other...might not be for everyone. But there's other drive to beaches and lots to do in the area. The house itself is comfortable but needs some updating and minor maintenance to be 5 star.

We so enjoyed our stay. The view in the mornings and evenings was spectacular. Easy to get to the beach. Just a beautiful place!

October 2022
We loved our stay here and sincerely appreciated the location directly across from the hideaway beach ( short steep walk), as well as its proximity to the Queens bath area. Club Med ruins were also a highlight. The majestic views of the mountains provides a splendid location to eat meals on the lanei. We appreciated the varied bird visits and the delicate floating seeds of the African tulip trees. Thanks again! Randy and Erin

My family of four (with teens) loved the villa! In addition to the most beautiful view off the patios, the villa was clean, had everything we needed, including adequate starter supplies, and the beds were very comfortable. I really couldn’t have asked for more, though we stayed in August and my husband thought the villa should have a wall air conditioner. Additionally, construction to the resort in the cul-de-sac was underway and there were jackhammer sounds, as well as beeping trucks all day long (not at night). That was a very unfortunate interruption to the experience. Though that won’t last forever, it appears it will be quite a while until the resort is complete. The villa is even nicer than the pictures suggest. The location is excellent. Princeville is gorgeous and very convenient to Foodland, not to mention Puu Poa and Hideaway beaches. Communication with the owner was good. I would be grateful to stay again and recommend the villa.

August 2022
We had a great stay in this lovely home. The location is fantastic as it allows you to walk to 3 places that have limited parking; Puu Poa beach, Hideaways beach and Queens Bath (only go to Queens Bath when open). We stayed in mid July and were always comfortable, did not need or want AC. The view off the lanai was amazing; and always changing. The home left us eating in (though mostly take out) because it was so comfortable. The home had beach supplies as well including a small cooler, chairs, towels etc .The kitchen was well equipped. We would stay here again.

This was one of the nicest rental homes we’ve ever stayed in. Great location, very well stocked home, clean, easy check-in and check-out and great communication from owners. One of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen in my life is right across the street. You do have climb down some steep steps and climbing up them is a struggle. This beach is not accessible for handicapped or those with knee injuries or very elderly. However, if you can make it, it’s worth the work. I would recommend this vrbo to anyone. Loved it! Thank you!!

We love the North Shore during the summer months. Snorkeling was excellent and it was just outside your door down a steep path. Foodland was a short drive away allowing us to utilize the nice kitchen and patio. The inland views made enjoying a meal or snack a relaxing great memory. Tradewinds were a blessing when blowing, cooling it down just right. The first night was hot and humid. Fans helped a little but still really warm. The location for us and this beautiful, charming, well-stocked home made our relaxing vacation dreams come true. Would definitely stay again and again.

We absolutely loved staying here! Amazing location right across from a fantastic and secluded beach! It was everything we expected and more! We will definitely be back!!!!

June 2022
The property exceeded our expectations!!! The view is simply amazing from the back deck, and better than represented in the photo's!!! Very good response from the host, and the property well stocked with everything you could possibly need. We stayed in May, Lack of AC was not an issue for us. Bear in mind Kauai is over-populated with Roosters, which can be annoying for some. Princeville Resort still under construction, but they seem to do a pretty good job managing the noise. Recommend.

May 2022
We had an amazing vacation and this villa had a big impact on our stay. Unfortanately we arrived at night, so we didn't realize just how beautiful our surroundings were until the first morning. Finding the place is easy, just park directrly across from the tennis courts. The villa numbers aren't well lit, so be sure you're going to the right door if arriving at night. The villa is roomy with plenty of space for two people and all our belongings. The kitchen is well stocked, plenty of linens and towels, and other beach essentials like a cooler and chairs. We ate breakfast on the deck every morning, enjoying the spectacular view. There is no air conditioning, which as Houston natives we were a little worried about. However, we found it to be no problem as there were breezes the whole time, which along with open windows kept us plenty cool. Night time got cool enough that you may even need a blanket. The only time no AC was a mild issue was coming in from an afternoon hiking on beaches that was pretty warm, but a cool shower was enough to cool off. I have only one mild complaint, the bed in one bedromm wasn't the most comfortable and a little short for tall people. I know that matress preferences vary greatly from person to person, but for me it was a bit firm. Also, if you're not used to stairs in your home, you'll be going up and down them quite a bit in this villa. Your calfs will get a work out! This location is great for easy access to all things on the north side of the island. Driving to a grocery store, restaraunts in Hanalei, or any number of beaches, are easy access from here. If we come back to Kaua'i I'd definately stay here again.

April 2022
We had a wonderful three night stay in Princeville, Kauai at this property as part of a two week trip to Kauai and Maui. The home has a beautiful view of the Kauai mountains. It rained one night of our stay and the following morning we could see the waterfalls coming down the mountain in the distance. Hideaway beach is located immediately across the street. It is a small, tucked away beach that can be difficult to get to but well worth the trek. Check the reviews of the beach itself to make sure the beach is for you. We had so much fun and the property was perfect. The home does not have AC but it was not needed when we stayed in March. I usually keep my AC at 68 degrees and I was just fine during our stay. Lovely stay and would visit again.

April 2022
The initial impression was " WOW"," GORGEOUS""UNBELIEVABLE" Then we started "noticing " things". We quietly reached out to the owners letting them know and hoping to resolve things without getting VRBO involved. It got worse! We discovered an infestation of pinch bugs. Owner pretended she's never heard of them and stopped comminating. There were bugs in every room, in every cupboard, drawer, bathroom, balcony. They bit my wife and my daughter. To top it all off - a nice 8 inch lizard walked over me while reading on the master bed. We were forced to spend the last night in a our rental SUV. We notified the owner and politely asked for refund for the last night and she still has not responded. The view is beautiful, the neighborhood is posh, the property has HUGE potential, but someone has to care about it. There was a layer of dust on the furniture, broken screen door, broken arm chair, blinds falling down on my daughter's head. Laundry closet - never cleaned. Spider webs galore! NO WI-FI! Please do not be deceived - it says WiFi - it is slower than my phone data in 2 bars. You can not even watch a video, nevermind WORK!!!! Total disappointment!

March 2022
We absolutely loved this Princeville getaway with complete magnificent views and secluded spot tucked at the end of the road. The two stories were fabulous with such big bedrooms, bathrooms, and a very spacious kitchen. We cooked almost every night because the views/deck was perfect for sitting outdoors. The views from both balconies were awesome. It was comfortable sleeping at night with the sliding doors and window open. Definitely would recommend!!!

We've stayed in Princeville before and if/when we come back we would love to stay here again! The location, view from the lanai, and great communication with the host, Lori, made this place the perfect stay.

December 2021
Almost perfect location. A short walk to the beach, quiet, a nice view of the mountains. I will be woken up by the roosters around 6am but we actually loved it as it allowed us to stay in PST time zone :). The unit has everything you need, the beds are comfortable. the only issue was the washer's door was malfunctioning, but we notified the owner and I assume it is being fixed. You have two beaches in a very short distance although the closest involves a pretty steep hike. But it offers you a great snorkeling option right next to your villa. We definitely recommend it would love to come back.

This was our second time staying at this property and the location is excellent. Walking distance from two beaches that have very limited parking, so being able to walk to them from the front door is ideal. Views from the lanai are amazing, multiple waterfalls visible and lush rainforest. The two bedrooms provide plenty of privacy and the access to the washer/dryer really makes staying here for more than a couple days very convenient. Plenty of linens are provided as well as some beach towels, and the kitchen is well stocked for cooking most meals. Overall, we had a great stay and will likely return to this rental again in the future.

November 2021
The property and the view are beautiful. The property itself is close to 2 beaches - one is about 10-15 min walk and another one much closer but the path is steep. The nearby hotel in the listing has been under construction for more than a year - so no drinks or restaurant food in walking distance. The golf course is quite close if you golf. I did not notice the lack of AC on the listing. We went in october when the humidity was fairly high and I stayed in the 2nd bedroom. The 2nd night it rained most of the night and after not sleeping the first night due to the humidity, the 2nd night was worse. We are from Austin - so our tolerance level is fairly high. End result is we left after the 2nd night and forfeited 3 nights stay. I did speak with the owner - and she was very nice and shared that most homes there did not have AC. Expensive mistake on my part.

October 2021
This house had the best views of the mountains! Very easy to get into the neighborhood, near the end of the road by old St. Regis hotel. Great walk down to the beach by Hanalei Bay. Very close to shops and restaurants in Princeville. The house had everything you needed in the kitchen! The bedrooms were downstairs, very spacious. A suggestion would be extra fans for those people not quite used to the heat and humidity! And a screen door on the 2nd bedroom lanai door. Close parking. Camp chairs and a small beach umbrella to use. The birds and roosters and nene were amusing to watch! Thank you for sharing your home with us!

October 2021
Stunning property that feels like rest and relaxation as soon as you enter. Extremely clean, and the owners seemingly anticipated all needs by having lots of towels, sunblock, and bug spray available. Also loved the washer and dryer! The only thing I would note is that this is NOT the place to go (maybe Kauai in general...) for working remotely. The Wifi was not fast enough for productive work, but that's totally fine if you want to unplug and enjoy absolute paradise like we did!

October 2021
This was the perfect house for our 30th anniversary. Clean, quiet, private, and very comfortable. The view from the lanais is spectacular--photos cannot do it justice. For an amazing sunset ocean view, just walk up the street a bit to the overlook. We spotted a pod of dolphins from there one day, too! Easy access to great beaches--we especially enjoyed snorkeling at Anini and Tunnels. The house has plenty of towels (beach and regular), and basic beach supplies. The kitchen is very well stocked. We cook while on vacation and not once did we think, "Hm, why don't they have an X?" as is so often the case with vacation rentals. We ate out plenty, too, and there are good restaurants and food trucks nearby. We recommend B's Kitchen and Cafe Turmeric (an excellent food truck, and probably the best food we had on the island). The Hideaways Pizza Pub has a delicious Mai Tai. We'd absolutely stay here again--this is a great place!

September 2021
If you're looking to get away, I don't know how you could beat it. Views from the back deck for meals or just hanging out are incredible, walking distance to two great beaches plus the Queen's Bath, and easy to access to groceries and a handful of restaurants if you don't plan on driving around the island. Easy to get down to Kilauea or Kapa'a for food or hikes or kayaking, plan for a full day trip if you're headed to Waimea or Poipu and you won't be disappointed.

Beautiful true Hawaiian experience. This is a beautiful home with all the amenities you need. I would come back in a heartbeat. Beautiful walk down to the little beach close to Hanalei in Princeville

This property was ideally situated for our purposes, walking distance to the beach and gorgeous view of the mountains. The villa was immaculate, roomy, well decorated, kitchen met all our needs, the beds comfy and the view spectacular. We loved this property and would definitely return.

August 2021
My husband, 18-yr daughter and I stayed at Lori and August's Villa #9 in early August and could not have imagined how we'd fall in love instantly with the villa and its location! As we approached the area and saw the villa for the first time, it was love at first sight! Lori's communication prior to renting was amazing! From our first contact many months prior to our arrival and being in touch when we arrived, she was so responsive and 100% committed to answering our questions with extremely helpful information. The beautiful villa has everything and more anyone could need! The views are incredible! From coffee on the deck with the glorious mountains w/waterfalls directly in front of you to Hide Away Beach directly behind you, we could not ask for more natural beauty! We visited the southern part of the island first then the northern and Hide Away Beach which was our absolute favorite! A 15-minute walk away is Queen's Bath and there are pedestrian walking paths so you are safe to walk as far as you like. Prior to renting we had great concern over there being no AC in the villa but Lori reassured us not to worry. We were relieved how comfortable we were the entire stay......with the ceiling fans on and doors and windows open it was perfect! Never once did we feel AC was needed and we actually enjoyed it more than we did the condo w/AC we stayed in Poipu. We can not recommend this villa and the owners high enough! We shared so many special moments and adventures as a family and could not have asked for more. The only thing I'd mention is roosters crowing through the night! Despite the beds being the largest, most comfortable we have ever slept in, there are roosters that crow intermittently though out the night! They are charming and part of the island but if you're a light sleeper, definitely pack some ear plugs so you can rest up for all to see and do around you! We enjoyed the Kalalau Trail, Hanalei Bay, Tunnels and Kee Beach so much! Thank you, Lori & August! We had the best vacation of our lives!

June 2021
What a wonderful experience. Lori and August were quick to respond regarding check in and easy to work with. Loved the location, private parking spot, walking access to two wonderful beaches!! The kitchen was well equipped - we enjoyed cooking most meals in house and eating on the lanai looking at the lush mountains before heading out on evening walks to watch the sunset. Plenty of beach towels available as well as a couple of chairs and a cooler. We couldn't get the TV in the downstairs master to work but that might have been user error and we weren't much concerned about TV anyway. The living room TV was great. The beds were comfortable and fans (ceiling and tower) helped keep the air moving throughout the house. If you are looking for lots of people and noise, stay elsewhere...if you are looking for peaceful relaxation with beautiful views, this is your location. I loved the roosters and chickens running about as well as all the birds and frogs. There is construction going on at the end of the road on the old St.Regis property but it was never an issue from a noise perspective and didn't bother us a bit. The road to Hanalei bay will be closed intermittently for a few months (as of May 2021) due to a landslide in April so check times on HDOT website to avoid surprises. My only complaint was that I didn't have another week to spend there. My husband and I were discussing when we could come back while we were still there. Thank you for a very memorable stay! We will be back!!
