Our hosts were amazingly friendly and helpful with advice about things to see, routes to take, and with other topics that made our stay delightful. Their guest quarters were large, immaculate and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable. Internet access was good. The garden and view down the mountain and out to the sea were superb. We started evening and sleep with the songs of many tree frogs and awoke to the songs of birds. All 100% delightful. We are so glad that we booked our week on the big island's west side with August and Daiva.

I can’t thank August & Daiva enough for sharing their little piece of paradise with us. They are truly amazing hosts. Everything we could possibly need and more was provided. We spent 2 weeks total in Hawaii- one on Big Island and one week on Maui. The 4 days we spent at Hale Gediminas stand out as my favorite part of the whole trip. The gardens and views are absolutely stunning. My husband and I cannot wait to return.

What a great spot! Away from the crowds in Kona and such a beautiful spot. The birds chattering throughout the day/night are beautiful to listen to.
The outdoor kitchen had everything needed (a good knife and storage containers!) There was fresh water for us daily (house is on rain water) which was so nice. The bed was very comfortable
The hosts were gracious and kind. Letting us know all the little spots to go to. They even have snorkle gear and beach chair's for guests!
The drive way is steep, as are majority of the roads in this area, and turning the car around in the driveway was tight, but not a deterent.
What a great stay we had here and would for sure stay again!

The accommodations are set in a garden with flowers and birds galore. Much to explore and enjoy. The owners were very helpful with suggestions about half-day and day-trips, what beaches to check, where to eat, etc. Very restful and refreshing.

The hosts, August and Daiva are great. They were helpful with local info, they had beach and water equipment available to use(snorkels, beach chairs, boogie boards, cooler, etc.).
The property is beautiful! Landscaping and that ocean view! The room and bathroom we're good, offered privacy and had an outdoor kitchen with everything you need to be able to cook meals if you wanted.
If you know anything about Hawaii, conservation is important, with water and electricity. Remember, this isn't a hotel, so be prepared for that. Only issue that my wife and I had, no television in the room. Not a big deal, but just fyi. The property is in a rural area, but there are beaches and food choices not far from there. Overall, I would definitely stay there again if we're back on the big island. Highly recommend.

August and Daiva were incredible hosts. Extremely kind and thoughtful people that made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our time exploring the island, August has created a tropical garden on the property (he has owned for decades) and his care and attention to detail are both clear. We enjoyed it very much.

We stayed 5 days at this property and found it perfect in every way. There is a comfortable bed and clean bathroom inside and a delightful outdoor kitchen space. There were no bug issues, it was very clean and trash/recycles were picked up daily. The owner provided plenty of drinking water and a few bonus items in the kitchen, plus beach towels, ice packs and a cooler. The location is perfect for exploring the West side of the island. It is about 10 miles from the grocery store, which has everything you need. This is much better and more affordable than a resort hotel. The property backs to the main road, so you may hear cars in the morning as people begin their day, but its not I-70. The landscaping is beautiful and primarily what you will hear is wind through the palm fronds.

The listing describes this room perfectly. We enjoyed our stay. Having the outdoor kitchen and free parking was nice. August and Diva are very friendly and helpful. The view from the Lanai is also very nice.

We were satisfied with our accommodations. The front and back gardens surrounding the property are beautiful. I would rated it 4 stars if the location was closer to the captain cook monument area for snorkeling and if the next door neighbor didn't use use blender at 4 in the morning.

After two stays here in two years I can say we like the place. If your looking for a nice clean place to stay and want to sit on the Lanai and enjoy a beautiful sunset away from the hustle and bustle of the city on the Kona side of The Big Island then this is a great place for you. The host and hostess August and Diva are very friendly and helpful, the bed is very comfortable and the view from the Lanai is especially beautiful as you watch the sunset and eat your evening meal or maybe have a drink or two. We have enjoyed many a cup of coffee on this lanai at the little table for two overlooking the beautifully manicured garden all planted by the owners.
A few other nice things about this location is that you are only minutes from The Place of Refuge and Two Steps which has really good diving and snorkeling especially when the Spinner Dolphin are in the cove, which is often in the early mornings. There is also some great diving but somewhat difficult snorkeling at Pebble Beach - which is straight down the small subdivisions main street to the Ocean, and I mean almost straight down their main street to the Ocean ;) South Point and the Green Sand Beach are around 30 minutes away on the very scenic drive south towards Volcano National Park, which is about and hour and a half away.

My experience as a solo traveler staying at Hale Gediminas was wonderful. The location was gorgeous and peaceful. I was able to enjoy coffee each morning to the sound of the ocean and the island waking up. August and Diva lovely hosts. They invited me over for coffee and gave me tips on what to see/do on the island. They invited me to dinner as well. They also provided snorkel gear, and other beach gear for the duration of my stay. Loved the outdoor kitchen. Overall was very impressed with the level of service and accomodations.

A good place to unwind and relax. Augustus and Daiva are excellent hosts. They will make you feel right at home. We had a short chat with them every morning we stayed there and it was such a pleasant start to the morning. They have a very good understanding of the Big Island and if you have any questions about where to go, they are always there to help.
The greenery around the house is amazing. Its a good feeling to wake up to the sounds of the little birds around. Couldn't have asked for a better place and better hosts.

The rental is well furbished and clean. You have everything what you need and the location is awesome. August and Davia are nice owners and give useful information about the island. If one day we come back to Hawaii we would stay here again.

May 2016
This property was great for my wife and I when we stayed there for our 20th anniversary in early May. The property was just as the owners describe in their listing. It was clean and had all the amenities that one would need while staying there for a week or more. The property is so lush with all of the plants and trees, making it very private. One of the best parts about this property is that the owners are such great hosts. Both August and Daiva were very kind and helpful about what sights to see and many details about the island that you wouldn't know unless you visited with someone who has lived there for a long time. I enjoyed August taking his time to explain those things to us, and also some of the history of the island. They even invited us to sit with them for coffee in the morning, which was a great experience. When we return to the big island we will definitely stay here if we can. I would highly recommend it for couples or singles, who want a quieter place to relax or go see the sights of the island.

This property is a hidden jewel. It is by far our favorite place on the Big Island or Maui. It is in a perfect location to explore the Kona coastline all the way to South Point and around the North. Grocery stores are close by so shopping is easy. The room was spotless, private, and quiet. The kitchen had everything you would ever need. The grounds were stunning; so beautifully landscaped. The lanai was great and a perfect place for morning coffee and beautiful sunsets. August always invited us to have coffee with him in the morning and he provided us with beach chairs, an umbrella, beach towels, and an ice chest which was an extra nice touch. He was also knowledgeable, not only about places to visit, but also about the history of Hawaii. Their black sand private beach was usually deserted and a great place to sit and watch the waves. Daiva wasn't there the whole time, but we did have coffee with her and August a couple of mornings and she is a wonderful hostess. We wish we had been able to stay with them longer, but were unable to work it into our schedule. Having said all this you would expect to pay more than a hundred dollars a night to stay, but it is very reasonable. I don't think you will find anything that is close to this anywhere in Hawaii. I would highly recommend this property to anyone and already have to my close friends.

August and Daiva are exceptional hosts! Beautiful home with amazing scenery and views of the ocean and sunset. Hotels can be very pricey for the island and this is a more than adequate substitute especially for the price. Room comes equipped with small tv, mini fridge, bed, futon, bottled drinking water, body wash, shampoo, 2 beach towels, beach chairs, wifi, and shower. Only drawback is that Captain Cook area is a bit of a drive from Kona; 30-40 minutes each way, so if you plan on stocking up on food or essentials make a list and get it done at WalMart on first trip as gas is $4.30 per gallon average and you don't want to be making extra unnecessary trips to town. Not much as far as dining out anywhere near either. I would recommend utilizing the grill they have available and enjoying your nights at home as traveling the island can consume your entire days and most restaurants close EARLY (8-10) pm even on weekends)?? Also don't book any tours in advance as almost all attractions you can do by yourself for free or minimal cost. August will be more than happy to guide you on your travels as he has lived here 20 years and knows every nook and cranny of the island well.

My wife and I chose Hale Gediminas for the location. We'd been to Hawaii before and knew that we wanted to stay in one spot for our two week visit and wanted to go to all corners of the island, swim, snorkel, hike, etc. The location was ideal for our purposes. The room is clean and comfortable. The bathroom and shower were clean and well maintained. The outdoor kitchen is small but functional. We concur in everything that has been said about how pleasant our host was (Daiva was away visiting her mother while we were there) and how informative. The garden is as good as many botanical gardens. You can even see a pomegranate tree. The pictures shown on the website are accurate in their depiction of the home and the view. We would have no hesitation in recommending this to any couple who wants to do what we set out to do.

August 2013
This was our 2nd visit to the BI and we had to stay with August and Daiva again. Both times we have stayed on this island we have felt very comfortable and relaxed because of this rental. All of the positive reviews are true. NOTE; there is no cleaning fee. The location is fantastic to snorkel at 2-step, snorkel with dolphins at the captain cook monument and it's only 40 mins to Kona. The green sand beach and the volcano are not far away either. I am glad we never stayed in Kona for many reasons!
August and Daiva are warm, friendly, knowledgable about the area and generous. The smaller attention to detail at this place make it special. You are given bottles of water, beach chairs, ice box, etc. The bbque on the lanai is perfect for evening meals. The tropical botanical garden near hilo is stunning but August's yard can rival it! Ask for the tour. A great place to stay on Big Island
July 2013
All the reviews are true.
I chose Hale Gediminas because of the ideal location (for my activities) and the unbeatable rates.
Clean, comfortable, and.....quiet. Everything you need is right there. Comfortable bedroom. Clean bathroom. High end grill (or microwave if you don't want to fuss). Exotic garden. August identified all the plants and fruits he has, but I was lost after about a half dozen. Another review mentioned the black sand (actually pebble) beach at the end of the drive. In my humble opinion, it's better than Two-Step for snorkeling. But watch the conditions! It can be surgey. I guess I just caught it during excellent conditions.
5-10 minutes to Place of Refuge/Two-step. 10-15 minutes to Cook Monument. And you'll beat the crowds if you visit Volcanoes National Park because you'll be starting closer. A bit of a drive if you're returning from a Mauna Kea Summit tour, but again, no problem.
I most definitely recommend Hale Gediminas, and I can't wait to return!

My wife and I just spent nine wounderful nights at Hale Gediminas. Other reviews led us to this property and we were not disappointed! We enjoyed every minute of our stay and August and Daiva were the perfect hosts. We would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a great location for exploring the big island. I won't repeat what has been said in the positive reviews that have already been written, but we do want to thank August and Daiva for the letting us share their home for nine fabulous nights! We will always have many excellent memories of our stay at Hale Gediminas! John and Jan

Hale Gediminas was the perfect place for us to stay for our anniversary! The property was beautiful and very well maintained. The hosts were wonderful; very welcoming and also helpful. We were given pointers on great places to go, and also were given a road map to help us get there. We had a blast, and will definitely come back to Hale Gediminas when on the Big Island again!
December 2012
Located on the beautiful Kona side of Hawaii, Hale Gediminas is a piece of paradise. During the short 4 day stay with owners August and Daiva, we fell in love with them and they treated us like family. The small guest cottage attached to the main house with its own lanai facing towards a beautiful garden is outstandingly beautiful. August is very warm and informative. He also helped us with maps, directions and equipment. Daiva is very nurturing and a wonderful conversationalist. The view of the ocean from the lanai in the front is out of the world.
It was a perfect romantic getaway for us and we loved every moment of staying in Hale Gediminas!

June 2012
This was our third visit to the Big Island and we wanted to stay somewhere out of the ordinary. We found it at Hale Gediminas! The surroundings and accomodations were perfect! It was clean, quiet, restful and secluded, with a gorgeous view and sunset thrown in. The outdoor kitchen was great! We were there for 10 days and went sightseeing nearly every day, but we made sure we were back home to cook and eat outdoors. Being from the Northwest, we don't do that in March! August & Daiva are perfect hosts who take great pride in their lovely home and gardens and made every effort to make us feel at home. Every time we strolled on the pathways, we saw something new growing underfoot and they made sure we used the fresh herbs from their gardens for our meals. We would find whimsical, fresh floral creations on our patio table, handcrafted by Daiva! It was truly a delight to stay there and we would definitely return for another stay!
February 2012
We really enjoyed our four day stay in this beautiful studio apartment that has it's own lani or deck, a covered outdoor kitchen, large bedroom and private bathroom. The idea of an outdoor kitchen was a new idea for us, but it worked very well in the warm dry weather of the Captain Cook area. The house and large yard filled with all kinds of tropical trees and shrubs was very well cared for. Our hosts were very helpful suggesting interesting places to visit and sharing fruit from their garden with us. We highly recommend this as a place to stay, particularily if you want a holiday from the hustle and bustle of city living.
