Great view and location! A perfect place to lay our heads, cook, and relax. Beaches in walking distance. Property is a bit weathered due to being so close to salt water and wind. However, updates and remodels are on the way. We felt very comfortable and they have coolers and beach chairs to borrow. Tennis and pickle ball court, outdoor grilling, pool, and hot tub all available to guests.

The proper met our needs in cleanliness and comfort. It slept the six of us very comfortably and it was located in an area close to the beach and shopping. Although there was no air conditioning, the ocean breezes were definitely cool enough for comfort and ease for seeping. We were very satisfied with our time in this home.

Multiple flight of stairs to the unit. Three flights of stairs to the pool. No elevator, no cell service, beds were very old. Kitchen supplies are old and mis-matched. The unit was hot and humid even with all the fans running. This was my 6th visit to Kauai. Never again at this property.

It was an amazing place to stay. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets seen from the lanai. I would stay again. Only downfall, if you need something shipped to you, make sure you ask for the key to the mailbox ahead of time. I was unaware that I would not have access to the mailbox of the condo I rented for a week. I had my dress for a wedding I was attending shipped there and I could not access it since the key was in another state. To me, that just doesn’t make sense, the complex office should have a key for instances such as this. My dress matched my family perfectly and I had to wear something completely different because no one had access to the box. It was very upsetting. Other than that, the stay was great!

This Makahuena Unit made a comfortable headquarters for our Kauai adventures and explorations and was a destination in its own right. Most days started and ended on the lanai watching huge splashes from the waves against the rocks, clouds breaching the horizon, and Mynas, Nenes, and red-crested cardinals going about their business. Makahuena Point is breezy and having that airflow through the rooms kept the temperature pleasant. We did not lack a thing and there was space to be alone or gather for meals and games. Very special time for our family.

Beautiful views and great location. Needs upgrades and cleaned better. Not all electrical outlets were functional and some sparked when you plug in a devices. We stopped charging our devices at the location for fear it they would be fried. Some of the decor should be tossed as they show years of use. Beds were very uncomfortable. We left a night early. This location has great potential. If it got the loved and upgrades needed, it would be an great 360 experience. Sorry.

Firstly love this location, close to everything and gorgeous ocean views. Condo was very clean but needs updating, broken cabinets, broken sink drains, nothing major but just would improve place. Also a/c would have been welcome, we had strong winds and couldn’t even have windows open so it got quite hot. I would not recommend this complex to anyone with mobility issues, one member in our party broke his ankle first week of holidays and found there is so many stairs here, up to suite, within suite. Absolutely charming if you have no issues but this proved challenging. Complex is not handicap friendly. The owners were lovely to deal with through all these years of Covid bookings and changes and offered helpful suggestions to us for our stay. I would recommend this place as for everything it offers the price reflects the updates needed and it was very reasonable.

Such a great property with excellent location, views, and amenities. Our group of 6 (3 adults, 3 young teens) loved this property. We watched the sun rise each day from the lanai, and the sunset set each day from the pool. The house was well equipped with recreational equipment; we used the tennis court daily, as well as enjoyed the many many walking and running opportunities. Having both a kitchen and laundry in the house were wonderful. Thank you for letting us enjoy this property.

Great info provided prior to arrival. Condo is 3 levels with the 1/2 bath, Laundry, kitchen and living room on main Level. Beds were very comfortable, condo was extremely well equipped with everything from puzzles/games, beach gear to the kitchen amenities (and everything in between.) During our stay, the front door lock malfunctioned and Evelyn was very responsive! Maintenance was working on it within 10 minutes and the next day a new lock was installed. We were very pleased with our stay and hope to stay again. (We left a note that one light was burnt out on staircase).

This is a great condo in a fabulous location. The pictures of the condo are accurate, except the grass outside looks dry and dead. That should not deter anyone from staying here. The lanai had gorgeous sunrise views and the sliding doors allowed for fabulous cross breezes. Truth be told that the condo could use some updating but we spent more time at the beach and exploring than in the condo. Regardless, the condo was comfortable and relaxing. The location was perfect for us. It was 30 minutes to Glass Beach, 1 hour to Koke'e State Park (stop for poke at Ishihara's Market in Pakala Village), and a little over an hour to Hanalei (stop for lunch at Olympic Cafe in Kapa'a). The condo is between Shipwreck Beach and Poipu Beach. I wouldn't walk to either beach but the drive was 5 minutes to each. We did not have trouble finding parking but we were there during the week. Overall, we didn't have any issues with the condo, management was responsive to my immediate need for help getting in.

August 2021
The views were stunning and the proximity to fun activities was great. We were so stoked to have 3 levels of awesome views of the ocean. We loved the snorkeling at Poipu, where we saw big sea turles on the beach and swimming next to us. We zip lined, kayaked, hiked, and explored beaches all within 15-30 min drive. Definitely, a trip to remember.

The place is really comfortable and well-set up for guests. The wind is a little strong sometimes if you have the windows open at night! The pool and hot tub in the condo complex are nice. And it's a pretty easy walk over to Shipwreck or Poipu beach.

August 2021
The condo is located in a great area of Poipu. It was spacious for our family of 5. Beach chairs, umbrella, boogie boards and towels were available for use. The condo is located on a point, so when it was windy, we were not able to always have the slider doors to the deck open; same with the windows in the master bedroom. The master bedroom needed more air circulation; the 2 floor fans and 1 ceiling fan were not enough. The condo is a not updated on the inside, but we were there to be outside, so I pushed that aside. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

June 2021
Excellent property near Poipu beach. Perfect location with awesome wide views of the mountains and the ocean. There was plenty of beach gear to make the days more enjoyable. The split level floor plan is perfect for families or friends traveling together so everyone has their own space to spread out. The property manager was responsive to any questions we had. This unit faces the ocean, so there is a nice breeze if you open the windows. It does get quite hot otherwise. We used fans at night but would have liked some AC. Breakfast on the lanai is spectacular.

This was our 4th time at Makahuena and 3rd time in this particular condo. It's always effortless, clean, comfortable. Great ocean views and breezes. Went in the pool several times. Close to the stores, beaches, hiking spots around Poipu. We will be back!

I watched the sunrise from the lanai every day we were there. Wonderful. Owner was gracious to let us know about construction that would be occurring during our visit. Appreciate that. Especially enjoyed that I could start my run from the condo and run past Shipwreck Beach to a trail as I do not like running on paved roads. Easy walking distance to both Shipwreck and Poipu Beaches which was great as we only had one car and not all in our party wanted to do the same things at the same time. Viewing spot for sunset on the property was also fun. Small nightly gathering of people fun to talk to. Highly recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay here - such a nice, very clean condo and great set up for our group of 3 couples. Great price and location in Poipu. The property manager was so great and easy to work with. Located close to a beautiful walking trail along the coast, beaches, restaurants, and shopping. We will definitely stay here again! Thanks for a wonderful place to stay!

My wife and I visited Kauai with my parents and brother and stayed at this property for six nights. We absolutely loved this property - it was large, clean, and had all of the amenities that we needed for our stay. The property was well situated in Poipu, with easy access to nearby beaches and sites. The closet was full of beach equipment, and the boogie boards got plenty of use! While we enjoyed many of Kauai's fine dining options, we also used the well-stocked kitchen to prepare a couple of meals at home. The condo was in such a serene setting that even just sitting sitting on the lanai and looking out towards the water was an enjoyable experience. We would definitely return to this condo again in the future.

We had a fantastic stay in this condo. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the waves was amazing! The condo was well equipped and had a personal touch. The view was just amazing! We were 5 people staying in the condo, 2 Tweens, 1 3-year old and 2 grown-ups and we all loved it. Would be very happy to return if we would get the opportunity.

We rented this unit for our son and his family of four kids ages 7 through 11. It was just perfect for them! They couldn't get enough whale watching from the deck. The kids fought over the loft bedroom with its fabulous view. Our daughter-in-law said the kitchen had everything she needed for her big family. She was also happy to find the beach towels and boogie boards. This is a great family retreat. The kids are already talking about going again next year!

April 2016
The condo was wonderful, the beds were comfortable, the view was amazing and we were in walking distance to beaches, shopping, the bus system and dining! Sitting on the lanai, we could watch whales breech, ships go by and amazing sunrises and sunsets. We would definitely stay here again. - The Hargis family, Fairbanks, Alaska.

Lots of room, nice location, loved the view. Lots of space but needs updating in kitchen, dishwasher did not work. Would like to see some color on walls--so sterile looking. Would be nice to be able to log into Netflix, etc with an easier connection for rainy days.

For a VRBO in Kauai I expected better for $275/night. The furniture and kitchen were outdated, the towels were old and the kitchen was not very well stocked, not to mention, it just felt dingy and dirty throughout. I also thought carpet in the bedroom and the stairway needed to be replaced and was very dirty. We were told a crib would be provided and confirmed this days before arrival, and no crib was anywhere to be found. A great breeze throughout made the lack of AC no issue at all.

July 2015
We've rented this unit twice, in winter and summer - both were wonderful. Both this unit and the entire complex are immaculately well maintained. You can view ocean sunrise from the lanai (balcony) and sunset from a few steps away. In the summer, Dolphins can be seen and in the winter, Humpback Whales. This location works well for both families and adult couples. Beaches, snorkeling, restaurants, and shopping are all nearby.

July 2015
It's the perfect setting! Morning coffee on the lanai watching the clouds and ocean. As the day heats up the lanai becomes shaded and cool while trade winds whisk away humidity. Traveled with our young adult kids, five of us total, with room to stretch out. Kitchen is tight but works. Amenities are comfortable. Bedrooms are a nice size; the 2 1/2 baths very useful. The facility common areas are well kept; pool, spa, & propane grilling stations. Convenient parking. Good management & communications. This condo is separated from a shoreline walking trail by a hedge & unobtrusive fence - looking down from well above ground level. Eastern views to Shipwreck Beach and sunrise, or through the clever side portal and windows to the lava crusted shoreline. Enjoyable ten minute walk to Poipu Beach, or head to the coastal end of the property overlooking lava rocks, sea turtles, crashing waves, and sunsets. Not quite as central as other places on the island, but that's the trade-off for enjoying the driest climate and better beaches. Kauai is a unique destination with something for everyone, but especially those who enjoy and appreciate largely undisturbed and sometimes adventurous outdoor settings. Much enjoyed and highly recommended!

This was by far the best place we have stayed yet on Kauai and we have been coming here from Sacramento since 2005. It's conveniently situated next to great beaches for volleyball/snorkeling, great hiking trails, and some really good Hawaiian cuisine. My wife and I loved the Condo unit and are already planning to rent it on our trip next year with a group of friends since it easily accommodates three or four families. The unit is very well maintained and the property managers did a great job of communicating with us before, during, and after our trip which made things a lot easier. The view from the condo's Lanai is just spectacular as we were able to have meals and cocktails while watching the whales and the surf roll in against the point. It was a huge bonus that the internet access was dependable as we were able to work remotely for our jobs at a few moments during the trip which made things very convenient. We also caught some amazing sunsets from the bottom of the condo complex which are frame worthy so that was a nice plus. This was such a wonderful place on Poipu to spend our vacation! Thanks Again!

The Makahuena condos in general seem very nice - the location is great, easy access to area beaches and towns, ample parking, and nice amenities like a pool and grills. We loved this unit! Great view of the ocean and marine life like whales, dolphins and an occasional sea turtle along the shore. Unit was clean, well decorated, and very comfortable. Highly recommend it and hope to return someday ourselves.

What amazing views! Every morning, we had coffee and breakfast on the lanai and watched the waves crash on the rocks. Our first evening there we watched the full moon rise over the ocean. We enjoyed walks to Shipwreck Beach or Poipu Beach. The condo is clean bright and airy. It is located close to everything on the south end of the island and easy driving to the north shore. . The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, and we even grilled out one evening. The gardens were beautiful and the common areas were well maintained. The owners and office staff were very helpful. This was our first trip to Kauai- our daughter was getting married on the beach. The wedding and reception exceeded all expectations, Kauai was spectacular! Family menbers who stayed at other condos were in awe of our space and views. We would definitely go back and would highly recommend this spot to others!

July 2011
What an awesome spot!! The view is absolutely unbeatable and the place was perfect. We loved being able to enjoy our morning breakfast out on the lanai and enjoy the ocean view & breeze. It's super close to beaches and we enjoyed some snorkling and body surfing! Because the view was so amazing, we loved to go to the local fish market and purchase fresh fish and sides - we would grill back at the makahuena and enjoy on the lanai (almost every night!) We really can't wait to come back and visit again. Thank-you!!!!!

March 2011
We had the great fortune of staying at the Point at Poipu days after our weekend wedding party in Alabama. We got to the property just after sunset on a Tuesday. Not having ever been to Kauai and not knowing the lay of the land it was great to be staying at such a conveniently located resort. We easily checked in and made it out for a bite to eat that night just minutes down the road at Keokis's Paradise and it was excellent. After dinner we got to really explore the condo where we would be spending our next week and it was all that we could have hoped for. It had every detail you would dream to have including our very own washer and dryer. We got to bed early so we could spend the whole next day exploring. We currently live in Vermont and waking up that first morning to the Hawaiian ocean breeze was a dream. We were up very early and went out to see sunrise from the walking path that was just outside our back door. We spent about an hour taking in the views and breathing in the ocean air and headed back to the condo to plan out the day. I would recommend this property for people looking for true relaxation. We loved the fact that it wasn't a party resort and we were able to keep to ourselves when we wanted to. Hawaii is great and we will stay at the Point at Poipu on our next visit to Kauai.

January 2011
We have stayed here twice now, and absolutely love it! The location is amazing, you are within walking distance to Poipu beach as well as the beautiful cliffside walk (where you are guaranteed to see sea turtles) to the Grand Hyatt and Shipwreck beach. Its a short drive to Koloa town with its fish market (which has amazing poke) and it has easy access to the all southern part of the island of Kauai. The property is nicely maintained, the staff are very nice and helpful, the pool and jacuzzi are wonderful, the condo is very comfortable and clean, the barbecue area is great, and last but not least the short walk down thru the property to watch the sunset is the perfect end to a wonderful day...

Makahuena at Poipu, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways: Friendly, attentive staff; a well-kept and comfortable condo with great views; nice layout of the facilities including parking areas, pool, landscaped areas for watching the ocean/sunset; AMAZING location a short walk from ocean cliffs where we saw turtles, dolphins, and fish every day- and a quick drive to the Hyatt, Sheraton, Beach House restaurant, the fish market, numerous beaches, and so much more). Poipu is a gem, and our vacation was ridiculously fun and relaxing!

January 2011
My family and I rented this unit in November of 2010 and absolutely fell in love! The condo is very charming and fit our family(myself, my wife and 3 kids) very well! We loved sitting on the lanai watching the ocean and the beautiful rainbows! Renting through the owners was very easy. They offered a ton of advice of what to do and pointed out some of their favorite activities. We plan on returning to Kauai and will most definitely rent this unit again.
