Please read this before you book. The following is in reference to the Lahaina fires.

Please understand that if you come and stay with me that you will not be taking a room from a displaced family or that you will be taking resources from victims of the fire. Right after the fire, me and the owners I represent placed victims of the fire in our units free of charge. No questions. It gave them a safe place to think and they knew they would need to find a longer term solution. Most have done that. A couple still need some more time and they will have that. I will not kick them out for a paying guest, so if the unit shows available then it’s available because the family in it found a longer term solution.

What to expect:

Keep in mind everything north and south of Lahaina is intact. That said 85% of Lahaina Town is gone. So when you drive in via the Lahaina Bypass you will see some damage. Once you come down and get back on Honoapiilani Highway and go past Safeway (which is open now) you will see what you have seen on TV. It’s bad, but there’s nothing you can do but support those people now.

Depending on when you are coming there may still be displaced families at Honua Kai as the Resort really stepped up more than anyone else in offering temporary housing. The ones that work will be understanding and grateful, and this does not need to be said but we all just need to be respectful of one another.

We hear all the time how much people love Maui, how they leave a little bit of their heart in Maui when the leave, and how Maui allows their family to connect or re-connect. The truth of the matter is that Maui needs you now more than ever to come and support its people, its shops and its restaurants. That said I understand and respect that some people may see it differently, so everyone needs to make their own choice.

We’ve always been very good at allowing early check-ins and late check outs, but that may not be the case going forward. We will need extra time to get each unit properly sanitized. That said, the guest can always make the request and we can discuss. As always, if I can do it I will.

I WAS THE DEVELOPER'S REAL ESTATE BROKER AT HONUA KAI FROM 2009 to 2016 when we sold out! I am also a licensed attorney in both Hawaii (Bar No. 8295) and California (Bar No 178241)(voluntary inactive). Disclaimer: Never wire money as a form of payment and f the rate seems too good to be true, it is.

This explanation may help since Honua Kai can be confusing. The construction of the Luana Townhouses is 100% complete, Honua Kai is now 700 individually owned condominiums that belong to a Homeowners Association. Honua Kai is not a hotel. Every owner chooses to either use the onsite management which is now Outrigger or they choose an outside rental company (ORC). Outrigger is not the "Resort" they're just the onsite managment company. Now they own the front desk area and some other areas at Honua Kai, but all guests have access to the pools, restaurant, stores, Spa, fitness center and concierge.

This studio is located in the inner courtyard of the Hokulani Building. It over looks the Hokulani pool and the tiki torches. It's 583 sq ft with a 100 sq ft lanai. The view is incredible. Look at the pictures. Imagine that view with the complimentary bottle of champagne and the Maui chocolate covered macadamia nuts we provide. .

Please take a look at our photos and you'll see that they are actual pictures of the unit and upon your arrival you will say that the pictures do not do this place justice. If you want to make your trip special this is the unit for you.

UPON DEPARTURE YOU LEAVE YOUR KEYS ON THE COUNTER AND GO.

We offer the following:

-With us you rent unit Hokulani 623, you don't rent a category and find out what you get when you arrive at the front desk. That 's because you don't have a front desk and with us you get actual pictures of the unit and the actual view from the unit.
-Free Internet
-No worrying about when the maid service is going to interrupt your day since we don't offer housekeeping.
-We personally see that this unit is cleaned to our high standards.
-Use of swimming pool, exercise room, and concierge service. We also provide beach chairs, towels, boogie boards, paper products and binoculars.
-The Staff at Honua Kai Condominiums will treat you like you're sitting in the first class cabin.
-Charge all resort costs on your credit card.
-Our Aloha Welcome Package which includes a bag of coffee, Chilled Champagne, Hawaiian Chocolates, Tommy Bahama Shampoo and Soaps.
-Either the bellman or I will greet you at the bell desk and escort you to the unit.
-We live 5 minutes from the resort and we are on property just about everyday. We take your stay personally, so anything that comes up, we will be there. You don't have to wait for this guy to call that guy who can't be there til Tuesday. If you know Maui you know what I mean. We want you happy and we want you back!
-We are fortunate to Live Aloha everyday and our goal is for our guests to Live Aloha while they are our guests. Whether it's just another trip to Maui or the only trip you'll ever take to Maui, our mission is to make it special.

The bellmen are all real good guys that work hard that are ready to assist you with your luggage up to the unit.

There will be a $5/day charge to valet park(if valet parking allowed), but self-parking is FREE. Only one car per unit is allowed in the underground parking garage. This is subject to change.

My family and I had a very relaxing time in our VRBO. I am actually writing this review as we are sitting on the lanai, sad we do not get to look at this view any longer. We have stayed at this property before and honestly cant stay anywhere else now because nothing beats this place. This unit of Joe's is about as good as it gets. Breath taking view. Feels like home away from home. The space is fantastic with plenty of room for a pack n play set up and still a lot more space to move around and not feel crowded. Completely clean and comfortable. This residence boasts a wonderful location in a corner of the primary building with in a beautiful resort community. It had fabulous pool , grounds and beachfront access! We had easy access to valet, parking, the onsite market, main pool and this unit boasts a fabulous view which overlooks the main pool, Dukes (their lovely tiki torches) and of of course the oceanfront itself. The residence is in NEW condition and extremely well appointed. This is a studio unit with full kitchen, living area and spacious terrace -larger than typical studios in the area. The finishes and design are very nice. Note: the bed is very comfortable but the pillows are unbearably hard and lumpy. That said, owner has provided many wonderful extras to make your stay more enjoyable such as: beach chairs, boogie board, books, a few CDs, binoculars for whale watching as well as unexpected welcome treats like champagne and local chocolates along with specialty coffee and a few basic spices for those nights cooking in. Nice touches! The kitchen is well endowed. Keyless entry made check in /out and absolute breeze. Valet team extremely helpful and prompt. Highly recommend this lodging. We stayed during exterior painting. We were aware scaffolding would be hindering our view and the enjoyment of the balcony. For us, we found it a mild nuisance as we still had a view to the breaching whales and gorgeous sunsets. It became just a minor turnoff as we were given an inconvenience credit by the owner and yet over the weekend we were still able to sit out and enjoy drinks during the sunset and coffee in the morning. NOTE TO OWNER: install FULL length mirror in hall or bath. Small 26 gal H2O heater makes it difficult for 2 pp to take back to take simultaneous shower and bath with out running cold. Do not run dishwasher or washer at the same time as a shower, you’ll be disappointed. RECOMMEND installing “low flow” water saver shower fixture…to stretch water use and it’s easier on a sunburn skin too. The W/D in unit is very convenient but non vented dryer is ineffective. Finally, install a shelf over the commode perhaps to offset lack of vanity space and a light over the kitchen sink. Overall, a great space we highly recommend. This was our 2nd visit to Honua Kai and simply love it!

My husband and I LOVED this unit. We have stayed at Honua Kai several times and the location couldn’t be better. The unit was very clean. The carpet was soft and felt brand new. The studio had all we needed and more. Plenty of extra supplies (trash bags, laundry detergent, etc). The view was better than the pictures. Check in was a breeze and Joe was great to rent from. We had the perfect vacation and will definitely be staying at H623 again.

We haven’t been back to Hawaii for several years after going all the time and it was good to be back. Check in process was simple. Communication was great! View was fabulous! Room was clean and well stocked with essentials in bathroom and kitchen. The printed "cheat sheets" in the room were handy with useful information about the room and resort. The on site restraint Dukes was also fantastic! A bit expensive but prices comparable to everywhere else in that range. Recommend reservations few weeks in advance, but tables do pop up or you can get on the walk in list and wait. At night they have live music which you can listen to from the lenai if you want. The pool and resort amenities are fantastic. The resort has a very relaxed vibe and is away from any major traffic. Some of our favorite snorkeling during our trip was just out the back of the resort on Kaanapali Beach. The reef is easy to navigate, waves mild, and variety of fish some of the best we saw of all the places we went snorkeling! Even saw a few turtles there! No complaints but a few heads up from our stay. First, the water heater is very very small so plan to double up on showers and/or turn the water off between washing/rinsing. Second, the dishwasher isn't anchored so if you open both drawers with anything in them it will tip over is quite startling! Lastly the ice machine on the refrigerator makes ice very slowly and is very noisy at night if you don't turn it off via the "lock ice" button. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this resort and this room!
