This was our second stay in 106 they have done a great job updating with AC and a few other things we noticed during this stay! Everyone around is nice and helpful. If you stay in 106 and have young kids just know one of the tenants next door if your at the pool you might see him looking at you with binoculars as a dad yes we had words ! He explained that he is losing his eye sight and locals come around and sneak in the pool not a good excuse but like I said we had words and I explained to him to be in my shoes with two young girls and some old guy staring at them with binoculars!! Other than that a few other tents are supper overly nice and need to understand that if someone says they don’t want to blow the shells at sunset to leave it and move on, for the married couple you don’t own the property so stop acting like you make the rules for everyone I observed him yell at a young kid for skateboarding was the kid being annoying nope is their signs posted Nope then after he was done yelling at the kid he told the kid he is an owner that may be true for 1 unit but that’s all and still don’t yell a people kids observe and locate a parent ! And talk to them. The groundskeeper was the nicest always working. This is a perfect place to relax and soak it all in.

Loved our stay at your condo, will definitely return. Appreciated the cleanliness and the comfort. And walking out to see and hear the ocean was a real treat.

My partner and I visited for 10 days mid/late April 2024 and had a great time. The location is perfect and within walking distance from many amenities. The property is very clean and had amazing views, with sea turtles stopping by daily. We'd definitely stay here again if making our way back to Maui.

We stayed for a week, this unit was nicely renovated kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, furnishing. The condo has tiles instead of carpet and that is a big plus for us. Being able to sit and watch the waves and have your coffee first thing in the morning was dreamy. We will be back.

This condo's ground-floor location allows us to sit a few feet from the water's edge in the morning shade and afternoon sun, watching for whales and often seeing turtles right below us. The unit is comfortably furnished and well equipped for us (two, elderly adventurers) - assistance with water temp was prompt and lighting over the stovetop would help. The non-smoking policy and congenial neighbors are a plus, as are nearby shops, including Snorkel Bobs, coffee cafe, Farmers Market store and tasty takeout. A quaint church and two beach parks are a short walk away; Napili Kai and the Kapalua Coastal Trail are a short drive north. We felt relaxed and safe our entire stay and will strongly consider returning again to Makani Sands.

We loved our stay in the condo, it was comfortable and lovely to have the ocean right outside the door.

A great condo and a very sociable community. Swimming with the sea turtles that visited us every day was great. The equipment of the condo is also worth mentioning, as well as the management on the site. We would come back anytime. Mahalo!

SO RAD! Great condo, great views, lots of turtles right outside the door, and an excellent location. Can't wait to go back.

the unit was just as advertised and we really enjoyed our stay. it could use a new iron (current one has burnt stuff on it that melts off onto anything it touches) and we never could find a basic broom (which would have been helpful w/ the sand on the floor). the deck furniture is pretty tattered and just a matter of time before the chairs fail and somebody ends up on the floor. but overall we were very happy with the place and would consider it again for future trips

Everything was just as it should be at the property and unit. Experienced a beautiful rainbow across the ocean one morning and whale watching the next!

We absolutely loved unit 106! We were right on the water! I loved waking up to drinking coffee on the porch, watching the sunrise colors in the clouds and islands, and watching whales! The condo had air conditioning and all the comforts of home. My teenagers walked to nearby coffeeshops and stores every day. Snorkeling and swimming with turtles was amazing right outside the condo. I met several couples who have been returning to this small condo community for over 10 years. The BBQ grills were perfect for making dinner at the condo and watching the most spectacular Maui sunsets every night! I celebrated my birthday by eating on the back porch watching a gorgeous sunset! A dream come true! Thank you for opening your home to my family. ❤️

Good location and enjoyed being right on the water and watching continuous whale show from the deck. Great views of Molokai and Lanai and perfect place for happy hour sunsets. Very convenient to nearby restaurants, take-out, grocery stores and food truck park. Not very windy during our stay so we could get into water in front of condo. Swimming pool is between units and road - basic, shaded in afternoon. Good kitchen amenities.

Bed was comfy, kitchen was well stocked, but the lanai was the highlight. Just it 15 ft to the water. There is no beach , but just enough sand to enter the ocean to swim or snorkel. Enjoyed sitting on the wall watching whales, a daily turtle visitor and a beautiful sunset Tiki torches were lit each night and we were surrounded by hibiscus plants which was another advantage to the ground floor unit. My one issue is in the pictures and list of items was “beach chairs, “ but it didn’t ruin our trip as you can rent them from Boss Frogs (a 2 minutes walk from the condo) and the cost is approx $30/week. We really loved staying here and enjoyed the condo location and the A/C! ( many units do not have a/c)

We loved the location, the view ( whale and turtle sightings !) the AC and ice maker. My sister stayed in the same complex that week and their unit did not have AC. We snorkeled right outside, steps away, and at night we sat outside listening to the waves. We will be back!

Unit is very updated and clean. The building is older. Location is great. Short walk or drive to take out and supermarket. Only disappointment is that the “beach” is almost gone. Very little sand left to walk. Upside is that it is shallow and reefs are quite visible, which means you have a high probability of seeing sea turtles roaming around.

Makani Sands #106 was paradise. We did not even have to explore other beaches, because we had the perfect one in front of our porch. Unlike other reviewers, we did not experience any roach problems what so ever. Pros: -DIRECT beach access -wonderful garden and landscaping -comfortable beds -everything you need in walking distance -good equipped kitchen -games -your own parking space -everything you need to have fun in the water Cons: -bring a sleeping mask if you like to sleep dark, the bedroom shades don’t fully dark the room -it can get hot at night due to AC. Fans are available -pool right by bedroom, can get loud especially if people do not care about the open pool hours -condo not managed by property management on site. You have to call a number and hopefully someone answers. If you have any problems, the on site manager cannot help The Cons were marginal for us, we had the greatest time. We will definitely be back as this property has everything we want and need for a good relaxing week with no itinerary. You can literally make yourself a drink and walk outside to your own private beach. It can’t get better than that!

This condo spoiled us! It was steps away from the beach! Didn’t have to pack a cooler or beach bag. The property management company was super quick to reply back with answers to questions we may have had. We will be back!

Very nice place and we enjoyed it! it was our first time in Hawaii and it's paradise. I have one complain and is that there were (a lot) of cockroaches. When we came back in the afternoons after of staying out for a couple of hours it was normal to see 4-5 cockroaches walking on the kitchen countertop. Most of the time when we opened the drawer to get some cutlery in the kitchen you can see cockroaches as well. I was an issue for my wife. Thanks

What can I say, Makani Sands has all the spirit of Aloha. Everyone around us was so amazing and welcoming. We even got invited to a celebration of life for a tenant that had recently passed away at 100 years old, what an honor. Every day we would wake up, go outside, have coffee and a danish from Costco and just sit at our our private beach for at least a half hour to start our day. Everything was exceptional, including proximity. I literally had to walk down like 6 steps to the beach and the next thing I know, I’m swimming with sea turtles. I have nothing bad to say about Makani Sands and everything good to say. I can’t wait to stay there again for our next trip to Maui! Mahalo

The view was exactly what we were looking for!!! Although a little nerve racking having a toddler be so close to the ledge that was roughly 15 feet down to the crashing water. Nonetheless, we enjoyed opening the patio door to listen to the waves crash and watch the sunsets. Our 3 year old loved running on the grass while we sat drinking mai tais. The complex is much older (probably built in the 70s) but the grounds were nicely maintained and you could see that they were making improvements to the building. The pool and pool deck were clean and although not fancy like some of the resort pools you see, still very enjoyable. The condo itself was nice and stocked with everything you could possibly need…probably too much really. The king bed was comfortable and the shower was nice. We did find it a bit cluttered, though. It could use a deep clean and some updates to the oversized furniture. Having two small children with us, we appreciated the games, books and kid tableware. But it would have been more comfortable if there was a bit more maneuvering space and not so many pieces of furniture. The location is very close to a public beach/park which was perfect for the little ones to enjoy the beach/water. The beach access from the condo wasn’t ever used because the water was always too high. The location is also walking distance to some yummy restaurants like the fish market and miss arepas. Overall, we had a great time!

March 2022
Great location, within walking distance of coffee and farmers market and short drive to restaurants, grocery store, and even an awesome food truck park! Condo had all basic necessities (minus any pantry items like cooking oil), but onsite property manager was having trouble reaching the owner about spraying for bugs as she received multiple complaints. We did see a few cockroaches. Amazing views! The whale watching was spectacular right from the back door, binoculars provided 😊 we even made friends with curious birds. Despite the pictures, there is no beach access from the room, but you can get in the water. Small pool, but nice and warm. We had a great trip overall.

Things I enjoyed about this condo: 1. Location was great! Very central to a lot of activities, restaurants, shopping. We did have a car (free parking was also a bonus), but enjoyed the local area. The bus stop was also right outside the building. 2. VIEW!! We were on the bottom floor, and walked out a few steps to be at the edge of the ocean where we watched numerous whales spouting, breeching, and playing. Amazing! (No beach at this time). 3. Outside area had a lot of seating options, including tables with chairs and recliners. There was also a nice BBQ area. The grounds were nicely maintained. 4. Inside: tons of storage in the well-stocked kitchen, with plenty of dishes, glasses, cookware, etc. Great for a long term stay. 5. Really liked the indoor high-top table for evening cards, games, meals. 6. Plenty of towels, toilet paper, dish and bath soap, etc. We had a relatively short stay (only 5 nights), but were happy that we had plenty of "essentials" to last. 7. Appreciated the beach chairs, umbrellas and towels. 8. Clear, easy check-in and out instructions. 9. VERY friendly array of guests in other units. Nice to meet fellow travelers. Things I enjoyed less: 1. Wish a luggage rack or two were available, as we had to use the dresser top and floors. 2. Wish a couple of extra blankets had been available. We did ask at the main desk, but they couldn't supply any. 3. Almost hate to mention this, but there was a definite cockroach issue. I know the tropics are prone to them, but they were very visible and active. We could not comfortably leave any unsealed food products on the counters.

This condo was amazing! Location was amazing, walking distance to so many restaurants and shops. The view from our living room/ patio was breathtaking. My only gripe is that the bed was a little uncomfortable and we couldn’t find the additional pillows till the last day (we honestly didn’t look that hard, but the pillows on the bed were a little thin for us) Other than that, this place was an absolute dream!

We stayed at the Makani Sands 106. The view was amazing. We ate breakfast and dinner every night outside by the water and it was amazing. We saw sea turtles right outside our unit in the water. Unfortunately, the one downside of our unit was the ants. The kitchen counter was covered in them to the point that we couldn't do any of our cooking prep work on the counter because then the ants would get into all our food. We contacted iTrip and they sent over the next day someone to take care of the ants, unfortunately it did not help. But otherwise, it was a great stay.

Loved everything about our well maintained, well equipped vacation rental. The owner is clearly customer focused, as they accommodated and anticipated every one of our needs. The view was spectacular, right on the ocean. We will plan to come back to this location again, and again, and again...

Everything there was very nice and clean. Kitchen modern, bed comfortable, great to be on the first floor and just walk out to the lanai for breakfast. Two downsides: No keys so even though they came by and were suppose to bring them, had to go into the lock box every time to open the door as they never brought any copies. Also need to update the snorkel gear if you are going to leave it for guests. Worn out, broken straps, dated. Also, maybe a beach umbrella to take out would be nice too. Otherwise, very nice and reasonable place.

We stayed in this property for 9 nights. Like with any rental property, there are pros and cons. It is up to the individual to decide whether the pros outweigh the cons. Pros: Beautiful ocean view and nice kitchen with adequate supplies. The outdoor dining table in the back patio was a bonus as we ate almost all our meals there and enjoyed the views in the morning and during sunset. The locals had this cool tradition that they blow of the seashell right at sunset and wish everyone an “Aloha!” Cool experience. Also appreciated that the property manager provided the missing items that we requested (additional towels, cutting board, soap/shampoo). Cons: There is no A/C in this property and the fans did not help much. The water pressure in the shower was ridiculous, plan on spending an hour under the weak shower head. The master bedroom is noisy due to several facts: ground floor property with foot traffic that you can hear since the “windows” don’t buffer any sound. There was construction taking place at 8 pm at the unit next door. This is not something that could be controlled but it was not appreciated at night. Takeaway Message: This was a decent property for a one time visit, and we felt it was satisfactory for our purposes. Just keep in mind that the beauty of Maui is not based on where you sleep, but based on where you visit and the experiences you have outside the property. Mahalo!

Note: Vacancy calendar is approximate. Visit the owner/manager's reservation site to verify your dates.
