My family of 5, with three teenage boys, were very comfortable and very happy with this place! The beds were very comfortable (though not the day bed in loft area). We were in a mini heat wave in October and the air conditioning worked great. Had a personal issue after checkout and the contact person was very patient and responsive.

The condo was very nice and included all amenities my family needed for our stay. It was centrally located around all our activities, and easy to get to. We especially loved enjoying our coffee on the ocean view balcony, while watching the sunrise! We would happily stay here again! Mahola, for a wonderful visit!

We are a family of 5 and stayed 3 nights. The rental was excellent for our visit. There was more than enough room and lots of extras from beach gear to the outdoor grill that we used. Not many rentals have AC on the island so that was a big plus as well!!

We were two families of 4 and had a great time here! The place comfortably fit all of us, we could cook most of our meals here, and the location was amazing; so close to the beach and great walking. The pool access was great too, and they provided beach/pool towels, beach chairs, boogie boards, and a cooler, which we used nearly every day. The property manager was easy to contact and responsive, and made our trip smooth; they left a great welcome basket with extra keys, instructions, and local guides. We would definitely come back here!

This was our second "framily" trip to Kauai and staying at this specific unit-- the kitchen and living area allow us to cook our own meals and of course laundry in-unit is a must with kiddos! There are 3 bathrooms- 1 tub, 1 shower.
Beautiful grounds, salt water pool and jacuzzi overlooking the ocean, mostly friendly folks who live there, and tons of small lizards to chase.
And less than 10 minute walk to Poipu Beach!
Note: a wagon is essential for hauling your littles and beach gear.
We hope to be back to this unit next time!

As we were told, the property at this time is under light reconstruction and it was not an issue. The condo was super quiet at night.
Convenient & nice location in Poipu. All of the beds were quite comfortable. Shower head needs replacing in the 2nd bedroom.

Overall we had a wonderful trip! We have stayed at different condos at Makauena on 6 different trips to the beautiful island. This was the first trip we have had that did not stand up to the other condos we have stayed at. We had 2 families, with 3 kids total. For our size family, we loved the layout. Upstairs was a prefect kids sleeping area which had one full sized bed, a day bed and a trundle. We loved that it had so many supplies from beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, etc.
One bedroom has a pretty small shower, which made it challenging to clean off, shave legs, etc. There was also not much space (dressers) to put away clothing in the bedrooms which I didn't even think about; but maybe not everyone uses that.
There were some issues that I wanted to pass along to hopefully improve for the future. We planned on cooking much of our meals as we have kids and that is why we usually book a condo vs. hotel. Upon arriving and heading to Costco, we got a text that the fridge was not working in the condo and a new one would arrive tomorrow. They noted they put an apartment size fridge in for us (which was about half the size of a normal one). Because of this we could only put in our food - not beverages. This also meant we did not have an ice machine. The new fridge did arrive as promised the next day, however the ice machine line was not able to be setup that day. They returned the next day to fix it which was nice. We ended up spending extra money those first few days to get ice. The property could use a little love. The first day we arrived, it was very windy. We noticed one of the screens on the upstairs window looking like it was going to fall out. We decided to pulled it inside as it had broken off and was dangling. I told a couple people but it remained off the entire trip and we tried not to use the window too much which was a bummer as the upstairs can get warmer. Thankfully there were two windows upstairs. We had a little trouble with the kitchen equipment not working 100%. The stove lights did not stay on, they would flicker. All of the lettering on the stove burners were worn off and we could not easily read which burner would turn on and at what temperature it was at. This made cooking tricky. The kitchen faucet would not stay in the holder and wanted to fall out. Some of the bedroom lights would not work. Maybe they needed a new light bulb? We checked in and the main remote batteries in needed to be replaced.

Find another place before booking here. We chose this place due to number of bedrooms for our family of 5 and ocean view. Overall the place appears nice, however it is not maintained at all. Prior to arrival, the refrigerator broke and we used a small one provided for our family of 5 (at least we were notified). Upon arrival, the balcony railing was fenced off with a sign that it’s being reviewed for structural integrity. I emailed the management company and did not receive a response until our last day. In the meantime we did not feel comfortable leaving our 3 kids on the balcony due to the safety risks. Never was this disclosed or offered a different room without the risks of the railing failing. Other issues include 2 window screens blowing off allowing bugs in (I called and they lied saying they fixed it. The screen remained on the edge of the roof for 4 days). A 3rd screen was loose and constantly banged against the window each night. The master bed frame supports were broken. The place could be nice but every where you turn there are incomplete / unfinished work (holes in drywall from past nails, paint touched up in different colors around switches, broken mini blinds, stained / dirty blinds, etc). To top it off the last day our daughters room smelled like a sewer line was open. This was the most expensive place we’ve stayed in Hawaii and by far are worst. Pick any place else.

DO NOT STAY HERE The property sits on a hill the listing does NOT tell you that there are stairs and a hill to get to the unit the property managers do not care about it. the screen door was filthy the floors were filthy I mopped them 3 times just to be able to walk on them without shoes. one of beds upstairs had lots of hair on the sheets and a stain on the bedding. The master bedroom window you could not see out of it was so dirty. The loft was missing a screen that was on the roof area outside of the master bedroom I had to retrieve it so the window could be opened for ventilation. The large refrigerator was broken so they put in a very small fridge too small for food and drink for 6 people for a week we had to shop every day for food what a hassle. The furniture on the balcony it termite ridden and the pile of termite droppings was gross I have pictures of all of these things. I asked for my cleaning fee to be refunded and the refused. DO NOT STAY HERE. The balcony railing has a earring not to go near it so the ocean views were gone. the 2nd bedroom floor is being consumed by termites
Really enjoyed spending time outside of the unit Poipu beach is great and close.

This property was very nice and was exactly what we were expecting. There was plenty of space and the amenities were also good. While we were there the island had some pretty severe wind and it did make the screens rattle (and come off in one case). We did have to vacuum and clean the floors more than I would have expected for our check in but it was not a huge issue for us.

This condo is in a convenient location… up the hill from Poipu Beach
( you can walk there) where turtles come in to sleep at night, lots of reef fish to see snorkeling. Heritage Trail is a block away and was great for our morning sunrise walks. Close to various shopping places for food and supplies. It is Poipu so there are a lot of folks here. Pool was great for kids. There are a few funky things in the condo… dishwasher floods the counter if you don’t run the garbage disposal prior to, range hood does a light show on occasion and the fan does not always come on ( you have to mess around with it). All things we got used to. We enjoyed staying here.

My wife and another couple went to Kauai recently, which led to us spending a few nights at this gem of a location and property. The beach chairs, umbrella, and all that is so helpful for saving time in the morning before heading to the Ocean. The hot tub + views from the edge of the property are stunning, would definitely recommend and plan to come back!

Place was too hot during our stay. They should include in the ads that the place needs ac during that time of the year. Fans were provided but not enough. Unable to open the front door due to poor instruction. Took us 45 mins to get inside.

This condo had good access to an overlook of the ocean where you could sit on a couple benches and just watch the waves coming in and hitting the rock shore. We found it much easier to drive to the beach as it was about a 15 minute walk to the one we went to and you had to walk mainly on the roadway. The beaches were nice and actually had green sea turtles on them in the evening and early morning.

The condo was nice. The pool is barely out of site so I could hear my older kids down there swimming which was nice. Easy to check out and in. Plenty of towels and things. There are beach chairs, beach towels, toys and tennis gear so don’t rent extra with a car or anything. There was also a cooler. No air conditioning and we stayed in December. It was humid but manageable. Lots of fans in the house to circulate air. 8 of us slept comfortable. 4 adults and 4 kids.

Makahuena is in an awesome location. We got some whale action on the first morning. That was fortunate, the only morning we saw them at the condo. The kitchen is the best. Freezer issues are likely resolved. It would barely open.The grounds and amenities are fabulous.A peculiarity is: condo sleeps 8, aside from a bus, the biggest car rental seats 7. We had 8, so a second car, but parking enforcement forbade us to park on property. Something to consider.All in all, we had a fabulous time!

Great place- we plan to stay at the Makahuena property again! Great pool and grassy areas outside for kids. The only downfall were some grumpy neighbors who live there permanently and made some comments about us having little kids with us.
