Loved being back at the Whaler! The location is great! The unit was on the ground floor, which we like. This unit is in need of some repairs and definitely some upgrades! Drapes in bedroom were torn, furniture was very worn, kitchen was minimally stocked. One garbage bag, one very small and broken bar of soap in bathroom, things like that!

A large sized apartment in the perfect location on the beach and next to restaurants and shops at the Whaler Village. Very comfortable with all kitchenware that we needed to cook each night for our family. The grass area right outside was great for the kids to play while we cooked and BBQs were a few steps away. The pool was not overly little kid friendly… no shallow end, but the beach is right out the door. Never had trouble parking. Overall a great stay!

We were a party of 4 adults - an elderly couple and my husband and myself. Loved the main level walkout to the lanai just steps from the beach and pool. The grounds are very well taken care of and beautiful! Liked that there are free laundry facilities for the units without their own laundry. Our unit was nice and spacious but had obviously had water damage in the last few years from the unit above and there is still water staining in the light fixtures, especially above the bath vanity. The water also damaged the baseboard at the end of the kitchen peninsula. Pull out sofa was uncomfortable so we slept on the sofa and an air mattress. The kitchen cabinet skins are peeling and the pots/pans were like camping. There is something growing on the kitchen lighting. We killed 4 cockroaches during our stay. This unit is 'good enough' but could be a beautiful unit with some cosmetic updating/repair. It appears the owner doesn't spend time at the property or just isn't interested in spending the money for needed repairs and updates. We got to tour the 157 unit and it's beautifully updated and we met another owner who showed us photos of his newly remodeled unit - incredible! After seeing those units we felt a little shortchanged - especially sleeping on the floor for a week. Again, if you're just there to sleep, have a morning cup of coffee and spend time on the beach, this unit is adequate.

I don’t know where to begin. This is the worst VRBO we have ever stayed in and our vacation was greatly affected by the condition of this condo. The Whaler had no record of us upon checkin around 6:30 pm and when I called Maui Beachfront after hours number, no one picked up. Fortunately the Whaler had us forward our confirmation emails to them and they gave us a key. Upon entering, the condo has very stained carpet and the pull out bed is gross with a giant stain on it and a mattress that is very uncomfortable with springs that poke your back. Our kids slept in it and had horrible nights sleep all 7 nights and were abnormally grumpy for the trip. The kitchen is not set up to do any cooking either. There are no potholders, hand soap, no normal sized spoons (only serving spoons), no counter top spray, and it has a tiny garbage can. We had one steak knife, 2 water glasses, 1 bbq flipper but no other bbq tools, and cheap grocery store brand pots and pans. I wanted to make brownies and all we had was a broiler pan. When I called about no hand soap or counter spray, I was told that they don’t supply these things because of various people’s sensitivities. However, they supply tide laundry pods which causes way more allergic symptoms. So confused by this. I also called about the stained mattress and they did drop off a new mattress cover. The condo also has partial snorkel equipment and no cooler, so plan on buying your own. Lastly, there are 3 closets but only one closet has a hanging rod in it. So weird. The entire condo needs to be updated and needs a new stove, it took 40 minutes for it to get to 400 degrees. The 2 positives are that we loved being on the ground floor and never heard annoying sounds from whalers village. I thought the primary suite bed was comfortable too, but my husband said it was too soft. Also, they do have a safe to lock your things. We have stayed at the Whaler 3 times now (that’s how much we like it), but I would highly recommend that if you are interested in the Whaler, you look elsewhere.

This was the perfect place for my husband & I, and two boys (ages 6 & 8) to spend a week in Ka'anapali. I would love to return. The location on the ground floor with young kids who just want to run in and out as they please was optimal (and for my husband & I coming and going to the beach with all our gear!). Also, the location of The Whaler in general is so perfect, right on the beachwalk next to so many restaurants and amazing Black Rock snorkeling/jumping. It was perfection. One comment for units management would be to work on a better shower enclosement. There is just a small glass wall that does not prevent water from spilling out very much, so the floor gets soaking wet and there's some drywall damage from it happening over time. Re: the prior review about roaches, yes there are bugs that try to come in and get any bit of food out in the kitchen area, but I think that may be the case in most tropical locations and not sure there is much you can do about it. We did not find any early morning beeping from Whaler's Village next door to be an issue (I maybe heard it once and it lasted all but 10 seconds). Overall - we aren't picky people over little things and we absolutely loved our stay for all of the pluses it offered! We would stay here again, 100%! Thank you.

We booked this property because I liked the refund policy... with COVID and everything you just never know. Big Mistake! We knew it wasn't the most updated property but we liked the location. The kitchen was FULL of roaches. Many many of them... I made breakfast on the first morning and they went crazy... crawling up the cabinets and all over the counters. Some were small and some were not. There was not any sanitizer under the sink... gross! They were even in the dishwasher, hiding under the blender... I waited until 9AM and called Maui Beachfront Rentals... no answer... again and still no answer.. I sent an email and was told towards the end of the day that Robin would come by. I could tell that someone had come by later in the day because they had dropped off some pillows (there was only one super flat pillow for the sofa bed)... but there were no pillow cases or even the extra blanket that I had requested... my son had one thin blanket the entire trip. The other big complaint was the shower head which needed to be replaced and was not. This was a shorter trip for us so we ate out and avoided using the kitchen rather than spend the entire time on the phone begging for help. Let me end this by saying that this is our 5th trip to Hawaii and we have stayed in a condo each time... we are not rattled easily by minor issues.. an uncomfortable bed or even ants... but ROACHES.... ?

This was the first time we have rented from an online website, so we were a bit nervous. We had a bit of a “hiccup” at the beginning., when we walked into the unit, it had NOT been cleaned!!! However, the management service was awesome! They had us go next door to Hula Grill (fabulous Mai Tai) and have dinner on them. They got an exceptional emergency cleaning service in…so in 2 hrs we had a great dinner and the unit was absolutely spotless!!!!! Unit is very large! Kitchen is well equipped. Bathroom had plenty of towels and even some large beach towels. It’s a ground floor unit, so no waiting for elevators….just walk out the door and you are literally on the beach!!! Whalers Village is next door to the property, which has great restaurants (make reservations!). There are really nice gas grills literally 100 ft away, so you can grill and watch the sunset. The ONLY negative is….the unit’s lanai faces Whalers Village food distribution point. So, each morning beginning 7:30ish you get the ding, ding, ding of the delivery trucks backing in and all of the noise associated with that. It wasn’t very peaceful to sit and have a cup of coffee on the lanai. A HUGE plus was parking was included in the minimal resort fee, which saved a bundle compared to the big resorts!!! Great 8 days!!!

Location Perfect! First floor, next to Whalers Village, beach, pool and boardwalk right there! It's also private and on sunny side for those needed quiet times to lay in sun, read a book and have a beverage! Kitchen was well stocked with pot/pans etc. We were here for Thanksgiving, made it easy to cook what we needed to. Extended family were in other units. Staff very helpful. Sister-in-law plans on reserving this unit on her next visit!

It was a great fun. Kaanapali resort next door, had great free entertainment great dinner experience. Beach was awesome, rite out front door of resort. Got picked up a few hundred feet away from resort to go snorkeling on a sail boat.

The unit was clean and perfectly situated in Kaanapali. It was a bit dated but we didn't spend much time in our condo and we enjoyed our stay. Being on the first floor was so beneficial for grilling and having cook outs with family. I would highly recommend the Whaler and will most assuredly stay there if we are blessed to return to Maui.
