Lovely property with lots of pretty plants. Cool breeze and can listen to the light rain. Hosts were fantastic. Lots of info and provided some food, coffee, use of an ice chest and hiking poles. Very close to the park. Would definitely stay here again.

What a wonderful stay in the rain forest with great hosts. From the wealth of knowledge about fauna, birds, hikes and sights to the wonderful breakfast that greeted us in the morning, it was wonderful. It was perfect for me and my adult daughter.

Two things stood out about this property: the grounds and the hosts.
This is a semi-detached guest wing with a private entrance. So private, in fact, that there’s a separate gate from the road. The bedroom/kitchenette has windows on three sides plus a skylight, and the view out every one of them is tropical rainforest. Our favorite part was the two hammocks. We spent rainy afternoons snuggled in the one on the porch, listening to birdsong and rain on the roof.
Sally and Jeffrey were wonderful. They walked us through the house and gardens, after which Jeffrey gave us insights on the national park from his experience as a current volunteer and former ranger. They were very available for questions and recommendations as well!
While the kitchenette is well stocked with eating utensils and a few small appliances, I would say it’s much better suited to reheating or eating deli/takeout food than cooking. We made the mistake of forgetting oil and spices, and the grocery store options in town are very bare bones. We did greatly enjoy the breakfast foods they provided, and definitely had options from the local restaurants, but I will probably opt for no-cook meals on our next visit.

Jeffrey told us all we needed to know about the National Park, Farmer’s Market, Bird Walks,… what a beautiful house in the middle of the rainforest! We enjoyed every second there!

We loved our 5 day stay at Serenity Suites in Volcano Village. It was comfortable and quiet and unbelievably quiet. Our 11 year old grandson thought it was the best place he ever stayed. He loved wandering around in the rainforest. It’s only 10 minutes from there to Volcanoes National Park. I can’t recommend Serenity Suites enough. 💜

This is a cozy downstairs suite attached to a larger house neatly tucked into the jungle. It feels like a writer's den, where one would seek shelter from the modern world. There are hundreds of inviting books yet the draw of the nearby hikes meant we had little time to enjoy but a few of them. We only heard a few cars on the nearby gravel lane, which was a notable contrast to where we live in the city. You can lay in either of the two hammocks for a while looking out at the tree ferns and ohi' a tree tops blowing in the occasional breeze and get a sense of being transported back in time or to another planet. In essence, this is a perfect location for anyone wanting to be closer to nature while having the comforts of home. We will visit again hopefully.

Great hosts. Excellent place to stay. If you are going to see Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the surrounding areas, this is the place to be. A true get-away with lots of character in the rainforest!

The property was exactly as advertised and that was a very good thing. Great location near Volcanoes NP. We really enjoyed coming home after a day of exploring to a cozy home in the rainforest. So many nice touches such as the plethora of books and the excellent Hawaiian coffee. Plus I had great time hanging out in the hammock. Our hosts had a lot of knowledge about the area and were great sources of information about what to see and do. 10/10, highly recommend.

If you're looking for somewhere to stay with Sheridan sheets and the minimalist Hamptons look, this is not the place for you.
Jeffery and Sally have created a warm, homely, cosy dwelling set in the middle of the most gorgeous mountain forest. The bed is comfortable and the lounge area has a cosy daybed next to the fireplace where you can relax with one of their many great books in hand.
The icing on the cake for us was meeting Sally and Jeffrey themselves. As long time residents they have extensive knowledge of the area and, as Jeffrey is a volunteer at the Volcano National Park, he is a wealth of information.
This home away from home is within close proximity to everything the village has to offer and, most importantly, only a few minutes from the volcano!
We can't recommend the Serenity Suite highly enough. Thank you Sally and Jeffrey for being part of our wonderful time in Volcano!!

This place is unbelievable. The rainforest surrounding it is marvelous. Cabin is very comfortable and has everything you need. We spent 3 days there exploring the area and truly loved it. Sally and Jeffrey are excellent hosts. They were very nice in welcoming us and in providing a lot of great recommendations. We'll love to go back. Highly recommended :)

This cabin was very homey and cozy. Jeffrey and Sally were very communicative and gave us explicit directions about the location, tips on our way, what to bring, etc. They also gave us recommendations for restaurants , farmer’s market, and grocery stores as well as explicit directions for navigating Volcano park. We had a lovely breakfast the first morning of eggs, coffee, juice, milk, bread, yogurt and papaya and even had enough for snacks the next day. Jeffrey texted us with an alert from the park which was helpful. My husband and I had a lovely stay.

We had a lovely stay in the cozy suite. The breakfast foods were a delicious treat. We used all of Jeffrey's suggestions on how to explore the national park. Being gardeners we loved this green santuary and the wo derful hospitality.

Our stay in Volcano Village was fantastic!
Jeffrey and Sally were extremely responsive to any messages and provided useful recommendations for local events/restaurants. The Vrbo itself was extremely clean and well furnished, the breakfast provided on the first morning was a nice touch (the coffee grounds provided were exceptional). There was zero concerns regarding privacy, you are tucked away in what feels like a private rainforest.
The location is less than 5 minutes from the National Park and about 40 minutes from Hilo (the largest local town). Since you have to drive through Hilo to get to Volcano village, its a good idea to stop for groceries on your way there. Overall, very convenient location if the National Parks are the emphasis of the trip.
I rate 10/10 and will look to stay again during my next trip to the Big Island of Hawaii.

Exceptional experience. Jeffrey & Sally are wonderful hosts, lovely people. Jeffrey - as a retired Park Forest Ranger - has tremendous knowledge and experience regarding Volcanoes National Park, where he still provides volunteer service. Sally is very creative and it shows in the quaint and comfortable living quarters, nicely equipped with furnishings and park info as well as a gas fireplace. We would highly recommend these accommodations for your stay near the Park and would love to do so again ourselves.

This was a wonderful place to spend the last few days of our Hawaiian vacation. It's a great location because it feels like you're in the middle of a rainforest but it's quite close to many of the places we were exploring. The provided breakfast on the first morning was delicious. Information about the area, tourist sites, and restaurants is provided and appreciated. Also, thank you for the calendar! Very nice gesture.

Everything was perfect. The breakfast supplied the first morning was delicious. Papaya, yogurt, coffee and bread ! Exactly what we like to eat on the big island, fruits. The hosts were very nice. Will be back. The living area was clean and we loved the selection of books. Thank you Sally!

Such a cute place to stay while we visited the Big Island. Beautiful lush foliage and singing birds made us want to just sit on the porch and look and listen to the beauty! We were just minutes to Volcano National Park and a short drive to other places we visited on this side of the island. Jeffery gave us great suggestions in the park, nearby restaurants and the Farmers Markets were close by and fun. It was absolutely perfect and relaxing!

VVSS is the best VRBO stay we have had so far! Rooms are very clean annd thoughtfully decorated, exactly like what the photos show. Water pressure is good! Very quiet environment. Close to the Volcano national park. Jeff and Sally are the best hosts we have had! Jeff gave us lots of tips and Sally left fresh breakfast in the fridge for our first day. They also gave us a calendar as parting gift. We truly felt we were their guests.
One tip to future guests, there is a dehumidifier in the bathroom, and it works really well

Lovely hosts and sweet stay. Its very neat and cozy and clean. There is a bit of a musty scent to the space which I owe to the very moist environment. The hosts had a dehumidifier in the bathroom which was essential. They do everything possible to make your stay comfy and a great experince.

Wow!! We absolutely loved this place and are so grateful to Sally and Jeffrey for their hospitality. The property is lush, gorgeous and quiet. The space is very comfortable, and the book collection extensive. The breakfast was lovely, as were the settings of the hammocks. Communication before and during our stay was very warm and informative. This was the perfect place to stay to enjoy multiple days in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park; the information and materials Jeffrey gave us were so helpful to make the most of our time there, and the park was just a few minutes away. Don't hesitate to book this place! You'll make memories to last a lifetime.

We stayed in a lot of places in Hawaii (including expensive resorts) but our stay here was our favorite. It was a super cute place, with a lot of great touches like a patio, a hammock outdoors, and a great book collection. The surroundings are incredible, lush and forested and it was super peaceful.
The hosts were super friendly and gave great suggestions for park hikes as well as things to do in town.
We wish we had more time there, and hope to be back in the future.

The property and its owners are truely a unique and wonderful experience. We were welcomed by our hosts with lots of great communication on directions to the property. Upon our arrival the hosts, Jeff and Sally, helped us get settled into the property. Sally provided her wonderful knowledge of the rainforest and the wild life. Jeff, who is a ranger at the park provided fabulous suggestions on hikes and activities in the area. The property is unbelievably quiet and tranquil. Most of the day and evevning all you hear are the varieties of bird life. Despite being in the jungle, there were absolutely no bugs or mosquitoes. The breakfast on the first day was preppared with care, fresh papaya, coffee, eggs, bread and jam were delicious.
If you are traveling to Volcano National Park and plan on visiting this side of the island, there isnt a better place to stay. It was extremely convient to the park and provided the perfect getaway to relax and refresh from life.
Mahalo for the wonderful time and we most certainly will be back one day.

This lovely property was everything we hoped and more! Photos don't do it justice! The setting is lovely and restorative, in a lush neighborhood minutes from the entrance to Volcano National Park. Charming and very private/quiet suite with a comfy bed and nice living room, with a gas stove that Jeffrey, our host, kindly lit for us when the afternoon got a little wet and cool. Lots of attention to details including fleece lined kimonos for lounging on the deck in the evening. A wide selection of books, many about Hawaii. We relaxed and listened to the birdsong and took some wonderful hikes. Jeffrey and Sally are very gracious and knowledgeable about the Big Island; we appreciated their recommendations. Highly recommend! Hope to return!

Sally and Jeffrey could make the lowest level of Dante’s inferno welcoming. Happily, Serenity Suite is paradise. Our hosts were amazing and they will anticipate needs you didn’t even know you had.
The guesthouse is beautiful. Between birds, patio, cozy fireplace and lovely hosts in a breathtaking location, this was an amazing and relaxing stay. And while Jeffrey may say you can only ask him three questions, it is worth exceeding the quota.

Amazing stay in a rain forest next to Volcano National Park. Our hosts were great. Volcano Village was wonderful, great restaurants, farmers market and arts/craft. What a positive experience we had. My son and I were on a mission to explore Volcano National Park and some of the unique big island beaches. Jeffrey greeted us as we arrived and showed us to our beautiful rainforest suite. He was so helpful in showing us around and helping us plan our visit to Volcano National Park. With his knowledge and insight on what the park has to offer we had an extraordinary day of hiking and adventure. We even earned the coveted junior ranger badges for working hard to complete the junior ranger education packet, and pledging to teach others what we have learned. The location is so close to the park (7min) and an easy straight drive to black sand(35min) and green sand(60min). The breakfast provided was a perfect balance with fresh fruit, eggs, yogurt, and local bread. The water is the BEST I have ever tasted (I'm picky about my water). Overall I would give vvss 100 stars. I would also like to express my gratitude to Sally and Jeffrey for sharing their paradise with us. Thank you!

Thank you, Sally and Jeffrey for our magical stay at your property in Volcano! The suite is exceptionally cozy and relaxing, and the rainforest - simply idyllic. We were awoken by bird songs and lush green 360° views every day! If we could give it 10*, we would absolutely have! The amazing presence and hospitality of Sally and Jeffrey made our experience that much better! We would absolutely recommend this property to anyone! No better vantage point to the rainforest and the Volcanoes National Park.

We spent three nights in this wonderful place.
Truely immerse in a quiet, relaxing, and thriving nature. Perfect for visiting the Volcano National Park. If you are lucky enough to see the glowing lava at night it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Jeffrey and Sally were very thoughtful in everything, highly recommended!

A very well-appointed suite in a tropical rain forest setting. Good light from windows and skylight. The owners were very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed for a wonderful stay. We enjoyed the proximity to the National Park and used the Serenity Suite as a launching pad to adventures throughout the island.
Be prepared for the humidity of a rain forest and all that goes with it. The suite does come with a gas stove fireplace/heater which helps dry the room.
Stop by the Volcano Village farmers’ market and especially look for the Hilo Bay-kery table. Their cookies are delish!

We loved our stay at Volcano. Upon arriving we were warmly welcomed. The cottage is small and intimate. The breakfast was a wonderful touch and enough amazing coffee for every morning we were there. Mahalo for sharing your special rainforest home!
May 2023
From the time we booked, Jeffrey & Sally were so helpful and communicative (but never over the top). Sally gave recommendations for grocery stores and things we might not have thought to pack. Jeffrey oriented us to the suite when we arrived and gave us tons of information about the area. We spent most of our time in the national park (only 5-10 mins away) and the location was perfect. The suite itself is welcoming and comfortable, but the rain forest around you is the draw. I can’t say enough wonderful things about our stay here! We hope to come back & plan to tell all of our friends to stay here too if they’re ever on the big island!

April 2023
Jeffrey and Sally have created a lovely retreat in a beautiful rain forest. The suite is attached yet totally separate from their home. We were warmly welcomed and shown through our rooms. Jeffrey helped orient us to the National park and the town. Fresh flowers were waiting in our unit and on our personal lanai. Sally had provided breakfast for us in the refrigerator and fresh ground coffee for several days. Our rooms were clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. We especially loved slipping into the cozy hapi coats after a busy day in the park. This is truly an exceptional vacation home and we hope we can come again.

After a whirlwind birding tour of the islands, I settled into the Serenity Suite in Volcano Village to catch up with some normalcy. The Suite was clean, spotless and decorated nicely. Jeffery and Sally were excellent hosts and answered numerous questions before my visit and had breakfast ready for me on the first morning. The door opened onto a porch that was surrounded by rain forest. Enjoying coffee there while listening to songbirds and stillness from any traffic noises was pleasant. It was a delightful, restful, refreshing time after nine nonstop days on the islands. The accommodations and setting were sooting to the soul. It’s an awesome place. Many thanks to the hosts for making this a special place.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay with Jeffrey and Sally. The property is tucked into a quiet, serene, and gorgeous rainforest setting just a couple of miles from the main entrance to Volcano National Park. The suite was perfect for my husband, 13 yo son, and myself; extremely clean, relaxing, well-appointed with anything you could need (breakfast for the first day, flashlights, binoculars for bird watching, an amazing fiction and non-fiction book collection), an incredible hot shower, a gas-fired stove to warm up after a rainy day, and best of all, Jeffrey and Sally! They were in contact with me via text before our arrival and during our stay, filling us in on the best places to visit. And Jeffrey, who volunteers as an interpretive ranger at Volcano NP, supported my son's efforts to fill out the junior ranger booklet and swore him in as a Junior Ranger in a touching ceremony on our last day. Truly the best. Can't recommend enough!!!

Sally and Jeffrey were extremely welcoming hosts. The place was cozy, full of books, in the middle of a rainforest - I would not have believed there are houses there. They were very helpful telling us what to do in Volcano and where to eat. We could use guide books, flashlights, binoculars - they have everything you might need. We stayed with our 2 year old son and Sally even found us a cot and some board books for him - that was so sweet and also so helpful to keep him entertained.

We loved the proximity of this location to the National Park. We loved waking up to the quiet birdsongs. We loved the warm welcome and deep knowledge of the hosts.
This was our first stop after landing on the Big Island. It was a great home base away from the tourist hubbub! We have no complaints and would absolutely return in the future.
Thank you Jeffrey and Sally! Aloha :)

March 2023
The experience was special right from the start. Jeffrey shared his knowledge of the area and Volcanoes National Park and answered all of our questions. Sally provided us with some wonderful local breakfast items that we enjoyed several mornings.
The accommodations were very pleasant and felt like our own little piece of the rain forest. It was a convenient starting point for our day trips to the park and a comfortable place to return to at the end of the day.

February 2023
Sublime falls short when attempting to describe the Volcano Village Serenity Suite. From the Serenity Suite itself, to its picturesque location, it’s easy access to all that the Big Island has to offer - including the (don’t miss) National Park, I found our 2 week stay there to be more than what we could have dreamt for. Add to that, were our gracious hosts whose warmth made the Serenity Suite a place that we will visit again.
February 2023
The rain forest is so special in Volcano - up you don’t want to miss it, really. Our hosts were delightful human beings with volumes of knowledge about the area as they have lived there for many, many years.
Pick up your groceries before you arrive as there are few stores to choose from.
Don’t miss this amazing and unique corner of the world.

February 2023
Wake to sunlight filtering through a beautiful tropical rain forest and the sound of songbirds. Cute and cozy suite provides everything you might need for exploring this side of the island, including the PERFECT location! Sally and Jeffrey set this property apart from any other VRBO I have stayed at. They made us feel like family and had great recommendations for places to go and things to do. They were great examples of the wonderful Aloha spirit on the Big Island!

Well maintained two room rental in a restored rain forest (sunny for us). It is very quiet and feels remote despite being in Volcano Village and close to Volcano Nat'l Park. Lots of help and good info from Jeffrey and Sally. Given limited eating options in Volcano Village on Sunday and Monday, a stove would be nice. Overall, very pleasant stay. Would stay again
