This trail begins at the end of the road at the impressive Pu'u O Kila lookout. The trail follows the rim of the Kalalau Valley (a remote valley along the Napali coast), taking one to the Pihea lookout with views of Kauai's north shore. It's just over 2 miles to get to the Pihea lookout. From there the trail connects to the Alakai Swamp Trail.
There are many nice trails in Kokee State Park - this one is an easy choice for casual hikers wanting to experience Kauai's majesty. Remember it's a long drive to here (with many interesting stops along the way), so plan this as a full day excursion. Conditions are typically best in the morning because clouds start to roll-in in the afternoon.
