Two beaches are within walking distance. Koloa (old town) is only a short drive away that offers shops and eateries. Pool is tiny and parking structure on one floor is a bit narrow. Second and third floors are only accesible by stairs. Kitchen has plenty of dishes and cookware but no seasonings. Keys to condo have to be picked up and dropped off

This rental property did not disappoint. It is on a cliff overlooking the ocean and we saw multiple turtles every day. The waves crashing into the ocean make a great backdrop. The rental property management company is awesome. They sent us restaurant recommendations as well as activity recommendations. All of the restaurant recommendations were spot on. The beds were comfortable, and the towels were really nice. We really couldn’t asked for anything better.

This was our third time staying in Poipu. Overall, this was our favorite location but I would not recommend staying there if you have any orthopedic issues. Only other negative issue was a mistake where we were promised a late checkout which was then rescinded. In spite of these issues, we would stay there again as the positives far outweighed the negatives.

Old, but very nice property. We didn’t have any communication with our host, but that was because we didn’t need any. The sunsets from the complex were outstanding. We had to walk to a little area in the complex to see them, but it was over by the pool and easily reached. The condo view is to the east. The sunrise would have been beautiful as well, but the clouds didn’t cooperate with us during our stay.

Condo is older, but very well taken care of and so pretty! Every room had a welcoming aloha spirit and basic needs were available to use. We were very respectful of the owner's goods. We washed dishes and washed most towels. Extremely grateful!

The property is located in a perfect spot next to the lava cliffs and breaking ocean waves. It is near a walking trail along the coast and a short walk to Poipu Beach.
The condo is comfortable with access to a swimming pool, tennis court and laundry in the unit.

We had such a fantastic stay! It was exactly as expected and described in the listing and so close in proximity to all the things we love to do in Kauai.
The owner was more than accomodating and made sure to always let us know he was available for anything we needed. We also loved that we had beach chairs and toys galore which saved us time and money from renting.
Everything worked great and my family and I had plenty of space. We will definitely be back!

We had a fantastic stay at the Makahuena! Poipu is gorgeous with some of the best beaches. The Makahuena property is a delight. Lovely pool and great spots to watch turtles. The condo was one of the best we have stayed in. Great spaces, perfectly clean, very well stocked kitchen with lots of extra cooking supplies. I rented this condo for our family of 5-me + husband, 2 college age kids, and our 15 yo.We needed a place to fit our family comfortably, a decent kitchen for preparing breakfast & lunch, a nice view, and wanted to be able to walk to the beach, and a/c. This hit all our wants except for bedding. Had good communication with the property management team ahead of time, particularly Mele, who was kind & helpful. This is in a small condo complex and we rarely saw other tenants the entire time we were there. Parking was ample and we never had a problem getting a spot. It is a bit tight and the driveway is very steep and we scraped the bottom of our rental car almost every time. Oops! For the most part, we were very pleased with the condo. The very best thing about it is the view. Incredible and relaxing. The "bed" for the 5th person is a joke and I let management know this within our first couple of days. I realized they wouldn't be able do anything to mitigate during our stay but NO ONE who weighs more than 40 pounds could sleep on that thing. It is very old and the "mattress" is very thin and narrow. Our son slept on the couch, which worked out ok, but should not be advertised as having a 5th sleeping spot. Kitchen is well stocked and new-ish, bathrooms older and could use remodeling, king mattress needs to be replaced (again, told mgmt while we were there.) as we had to struggle not to roll to middle. Overall, would rent again for view if bedding were upgraded

We had an amazing week at this beautiful property. Check in was seamless, parking was easy. It looks like a fairly crowded condo area, but once you get inside the unit you feel like you are far from any other people. I never heard a single neighbor during our stay. The view is the very best part, we spent so much time just watching and listening to the waves crash. So many turtles swimming right outside every day, beautiful sunsets. You can’t see any other condos/balconies from the patio, it just feels like you and the ocean. Easy walk or drive to Poipu beach, went several times.
Kitchen is very well stocked. Comfortable beds and furniture, great to have laundry. Master bath huge with a big soaking tub, good water pressure in the shower. Plenty of towels/linens. We were there during the Olympics and enjoyed watching in the evenings on the giant TV upstairs. Used the boogie boards, beach chairs, etc many times. My 9 year old’s favorite was the athletic club just down the road that you get access to. The pool there is awesome for kids with a waterslide. We spent 2 of our days just relaxing at the club, enjoying food and drinks by the pool, which were tasty and pretty reasonably priced. Not overly crowded. This was perfect for the last day. Checkout at 10, and flight not until evening, so we hung out at athletic club for the day, and used the nice showers there to get cleaned up before heading to airport.
Great vacation, would definitely stay again.

We had an amazing time on the island the condo was in a perfect location. We saw many sea turtles and a pod of dolphins of at least 100. So many beautiful birds that came to visit us while sitting on the balcony.
In addition the condo was very well stocked with everything you need for a great beach day. We were very pleased with our choice and already plan on coming back in the future.

What a beautiful condo! And a beautiful location! Perfect for our family of 6 - parents and 4 adult-sized teens to celebrate mom’s “Hawaii 5-0” birthday. The condo has everything a family needs for a great vacation and very comfortable beds. We enjoyed sunrises, the walking path to Shipwreck beach, turtle sittings, waves crashing on rocks and easy access to Poipu beach and all it has to offer. We will definitely be back!

This property is fantastic, and the view is amazing! We saw sea turtles swimming right out of our unit. The beds were comfortable, and so was the furniture. The kitchen was stocked nicely. We thought the location of this property was perfect. We were within walking distance of a local beach(less than a mile), and the neighborhood was a great area in which to enjoy my morning walks. I highly recommend this property.

Great location and the view off balcony is amazing. Beds were comfortable.The space worked well for 3 couples, even 2 extra twin beds in loft . But there are a lot of stairs! Getting luggage to the room can be a challenge. Anyone with issues climbing stairs rule this one out.
The a overall unit needs some repairs. 1 bedroom had a small balcony door that was broken, not closable,hole in bottom we tried to plug . Overall need the deeper cleaning. The carpet in the bedrooms should go.
I hope they put a little maintenance into this unit because the view is beautiful you can see the turtles from the balcony which we loved. The pool is a small plunge pool that doesn't stay clean with all the trees around. The beach is beautiful with the turtles coming up daily. But better to drive.

The condo, situated right on the coast, had incredible views of life in the sea (sea turtles, spinner dolphins). The sunsets were also spectacular. We enjoyed sitting on the lania and visiting the local Poipu beaches. We would stay here again if we return to Kauai.

This is an amazing way to experience Kauai. The view, crashing waves and turtle activity made the deck a wonderful place to spend time! We all enjoyed having our morning coffee and evening meals on the deck.
The location is ideal being walking distance to many beach options and we loved being able to easily access so many beautiful sites and activities.
The lay-out of the condo is terrific with everyone having great bedroom spaces as well as good places to hangout together.

Poipu Makai was great and we enjoyed our stay. The views were amazing and check in was a breeze. The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. Like other reviews mentioned the parking is a little tight but not as bad as I was expecting after reading some of the reviews… we had a Jeep Gladiator and had no problems using the top parking area. We parked in the bottom lot one time and it was doable but a little tight getting out. There was also always plenty of spaces available on both the top and bottom lot and we were always getting in late from our adventures. Vicki was very nice and gave us a late checkout so we were able to enjoy our last day on the beach and didn’t have to worry about leaving our luggage in the car or where we would shower before our flight.

Everything about this property worked perfectly for the needs of our group of 7 people. The property is right on the ocean and the condo has a great ocean view. There’s a place on property to view the sunset and a spot within walking distance to view the beautiful sunrise. The grounds are meticulously kept and quiet yet close to everything we needed. Inside the condo we had lots of extras that made staying here so convenient like beach towels/chairs/umbrellas and snorkel gear. The lanai was a great place to hangout and the washer and dryer came in handy. Super comfortable beds and plenty of nice linens. Great air conditioning, too! The property manager, Chad, was always quick to respond to questions and so easy to deal with. Overall, for us, this place was a great find. Highly recommend!

First thing you’ll see in the reviews is there are a lot of steps to get to the property… but it’s worth it. The space is clean, bright, and the view is gorgeous. You can walk down to a lava rock ledge that overlooks the waves and be able to fall asleep to the sound of them every night. A/c works amazingly, so does the laundry. Only critique I would have is that there is no information on where to take the trash, the couch is uncomfortable, & the directions on which parking lot to use are not good enough. Overall we will 100% book here again on our next stay.

The good: full ocean view, watching turtles feed and play in the surf below your lanai, watching the most amazing sunset while relaxing with a beverage of your choice. Plenty of space, washer dryer and will equipped kitchen for cooking your meals. 15 min walk to Poipu beach, 15 min walk to shipwreck beach. The maybe not for some other people: this is not a new building but what is there works, it is a bit dated but everything was clean. Bed was comfortable. This is not a top end swanky resort but I would rather wake up, sit on the deck with my morning coffee and watch the turtles, dolphins and even a couple whales during our stay as well as the cruise ships leaving Lihue and heading up the Napoli coast. Great base to explore the island and Waimea canyon. Love to stay again. We did stay in Princeville for a week and poipu for a week to limit car time so we could get the most from both parts of the island. Mahalo
