We could watch the kids in the pool, and the little Beach next door was perfect for early morning and late afternoon swims before or after our adventures. The condo did not have A/C and was very loud at night with the water so close to the house, and there are no window fixtures so the sun comes in early. We loved the condo and would come back.

The location of the Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums is fantastic, right on the ocean with a park right next to you. We would like to thank both Valeries who work in the office, they were wonderful. They helped with booking our reservation, staying in contact, providing helpful tips, and being available onsite to answer questions, provide guidance, and help me locate my lost watch. We loved our unit 215. The unit had updated kitchen appliances, bathroom, and the owners did a beautiful job of decorating. David, who maintains the property grounds, does an incredible job keeping it beautiful and appealing. We think of everyone at the Hale Kai as family and we look forward to returning soon.

Hale Kai has a wonderful beachfront setting in northwest Maui, with easy access by car to a wealth of excellent beaches for swimming and snorkeling. The building is low-rise, small-scale, and free from the overbuilt feeling of many Hawaii resorts. We loved watching sunset and sunrise from our lanai, listening to the waves through the night, and making Hale Kai our home for the week.

This place does the trick, is well maintained, and gets you as close to the ocean as you'll want to be. My family and I (2 adults and 2 grown kids) thoroughly enjoyed the pool, snorkeling with sea turtles, and the proximity to great coffee (Bad *** Coffee is fantastic) and other amenities. The places is simple but quiet, safe, and centrally located. Super clean, everything works, and the grills outside are a gem.

We had a wonderful stay in this condo in August 2024. Located right next to a beach park with beautiful water, full of fish and sea turtles. Close to little shops for quick food/coffee trips.
Perfectly located on the Kaanapalu/Napili neighborhoods. Clean, in a nicely maintained condo building with direct access to the beach and a nice summing pool.

We enjoyed our stay very much. You can hear the ocean and jump into a nearby beach where we have seen colorful fish, turtles and even a manta rey!
We had some issues with the door lock; the case was handled very professionally and friendly and the lock was exchanged immediately.

I take my family to Maui every year and usually stay at a nearby condo for the last 14 years. My son and I always end up spending a day at the Honokawai Beach Park, as it’s shallow beach is great so this year, for our last year visiting, we decided to stay at Hale Kai and got what I thought their best location. Unfortunately regretted it in an instant. This corner unit is surrounded by glass windows which gives you best view: sunset and the ocean at all times, it also heats up the entire condo to 102 degrees inside. There is no AC in the unit. You may think oh the fans and breeze is enough, you are wrong. The high noon sun will cook you inside and not even the light filtering shades will help because — well they’re only light filtering. When you start cooking, oh it’s over. You’ll feel like you’re being cremated. On our last 2 nights there I ended up moving my family out and getting a hotel nearby because guess what, there was a power outage that made our situation worse! While it’s not their fault, we were told by people there that it’s been happening and no one warned us about it upon booking. With how hot that place gets + power outage = slow and painful death and I have my senior parents and child with me. They refused to give me a partial refund for the last 2 nights which is disappointing because they’re double what I used to pay for. Will never recommend. Will never use again.

The bathroom fan is inefficient and rattles. It’s ridiculously hot in the bathroom. The shower constantly dripped. There were two burners missing on the stove. This place has the most spectacular views though.

The Good:
Beach access is fantastic. The master bedroom has plenty of space and a comfortable bed.
The Bad:
The door to the master bedroom is broken and barely hanging on to the hinges. At this point, just take the door off because it doesn't work because as it is apparent someone tried to fix it previously. Becaue this is a hollow-core door, is lightweight and flimsy so there are limited options to 'fix' it. When I reported it I was told they were made aware after the previous stay, but I find this difficult to believe as it appears to have been 'fixed' several times.
The Ugly:
Understanding it's a tropical climate and they communicated the chance for bugs in their welcome emails, we made sure to put food in the cabinets or the refrigerator. How, then, would a cockroach be in a loft in a 2nd floor unit? Still, I get there are bugs in a tropical climate. What I don't get and what I'm not comfortable with is mice. I chose this place because the reviews were generally positive and cleanliness was rated highly. I didn't notice the mouse trap or mouse dropping until a mouse was caught under the sink causing a commotion. When I contacted management and stated I figured they must have already been aware I was simply thanked for notifying them.
The proximity to the park and beach are nice, but not at the expense of cleanliness and basic upkeep.

While the location of Halr Kai is nearly perfect for us, the condo we rented has seen its glory fade to a shabby version of its former self. We arrived to a rather dark, dingy apartment with nine burned out lightbulbs, numerous unworking power plugs, rotted window frames, filthy furniture, and a next door neighbor (full time tenant wovrks for the complex) with a barking dog. I’ve stayed at Hale Kai three or four times previously — the first time in 1985, and each of the units have been very pleasant. Unit 112, not so much. The crew at Hale Kai were great! They were all smiles and helpfulness. As I said, the location is fantastic, with a community park next door and a pool overlooking the ocean. The grounds and exterior are meticulously groomed.

I hesitate to write a review because I don’t want to let out the secret of this amazing condo complex in fear I will never be able to book again. That being said, what a magical place to stay. Our family enjoyed every minute of our stay. The condo was cozy yet roomy with a fantastic lanai, it was clean, close to shops and food, had welcoming tenets who live year round, easy parking, seconds from the private beach and public park beach, WE SWAM WITH SEA TURTLES OFF OUR PRIVATE BEACH! I saw whales breach while drinking coffee. The pool, so warm and clean. I don’t have a single complaint about Hale Kai, it was incredible.

The unit is a little dark (which helped everyone sleep), and not as ocean front as we are used to, but it was clean and well maintained. Could use some upgrades, but you can't beat the location of Hale Kai.

This condo is right on the ocean and tucked into a great walkable neighborhood (coffee across the street, ABC store, grocery).
If you don't like falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean this condo probably isn't for you or at least bring some ear plugs.
The condo itself is nicely laid out and well appointed. No AC but there are fans and the ocean breeze.

Views from the deck are gorgeous even without whales.Unit 218 is fine for two people. Love the Hale Kai & have stayed In 1 bedroom units several times in addition to numerous times in Unit 120 (which is the very best location just steps from the ocean & a small beach). There are two well-maintained BBQ's on the property as well. We were treated to watching whales breaching nearly every day of our stay! The unit was very clean and property managers (Valerie #1 and Valerie #2) are the best and quick to respond to any questions or needs. The fact the deadbolt on the front door does not work should be corrected promptly as that is a safety issue and reported to management the day of our arrival. We love the Hale Kai and we will be back!

I loved looking out the window at the bird activity at the park next door, had coffee on the patio every morning, watched the sunset at the park. Watch for the opening time of shops. The market closes early and is not open on Sundays. Enjoyed Slappycakes for breakfast, the Gazebo for lunch and Duke’s for dinner.

Great view of ocean on 2nd floor balcony, but Condo was old with outdated appliances and living essentials. Bathroom is old and dirty. Toilet needs replacing. Walk in shower needs replacing. Old electric kitchen stove needs replacing. Very dull kitchen knives. Only 2 raggedy kitchen towels and wash cloths. Balcony sun shade stuck with birds building a nest in it. Bedroom in back noisy with traffic. Perhaps the owners would be interested in this review to do some upgrades? Mahalo for sharing your Condo though!
