We loved this vacation spot. From coffee on the lanai each morning, margaritas in the afternoon, turtles by the sea wall, and a short walk to “the best cinnamon buns on Maui”, we had a great time. The condo was in a perfect location as we didn’t drive. A 20 minute walk got us to restaurants, grocery stores, and souvenir shopping. The condo had everything we needed.

Amazing location, quiet and peaceful for the most part. Our specific unit, 101, was quite dirty and cluttered with stuff. The closests were full of random things for maintenance. There is also NO air conditioner which was unclear at booking. The grounds are nice- great ocean access for snorkeling, BBQs with a sunset view and the pool was fun for the kids. The view from your unit will be amazing and you are likely to see turtles swimming by. The emoloyees were all pleasant and helpful and they keep the grounds clean. Fellow guests can make or break your stay as this is a small complex. Great neighbors at the beginning of our stay followed by a nightmare group including some staying directly above us in 201 and 301 the last nights of our stay. Yelling outside our unit to one another during quiet hours and smoking at the non smoking property. Overall I would recommend staying here and note that all the units are unique so pick one that has what you are looking for.

Unit was well stocked with spices, soaps for the kitchen and bathroom as well as beach towels and dish towels. We didn’t need to bring anything other than our clothes. Bed was comfy. We have stayed at Makani Sands in #201 a handful of times ...definitely it has become “a home away from home”. The unit is perfect for the two of us, and the A/C is ideal for relief from the intense heat. The kitchen is adequately supplied, however, it could eventually use some newer cookware. The owner has indicated plans to replace the sleeper sofa in the living room, which would be another awesome upgrade. We must say, Mahalo to Tammy, Debbie, and Rick, all wonderful overseers of Makani Sands, as well as Mahalo to Mariano and his team that provide housekeeping service to Makani. Also, we highly recommend Mala Ocean Tavern for top notch food and service. Planning to book again several times in 2025, our favorite place on Maui, Makani Sands!

Makani Sands is a special place. It's intimate in size, stunning in views and generous in amenities. Pros: location, size of units, VIEW, swim friendly beach right in front, great heated pool, beach chairs (no umbrella in our unit) and beach towels in great condition! in-unit washer/dryer which is very handy and comfy bed! I cannot stress the beauty of having your lanai and the waves crashing under you with the sun setting so beautifully. The BBQ area is also wonderful! So many great things to say about Makani, the cons don't even matter :)Cons: it can be very noisy in the back of the units which are street side. a bedroom is usually on this side, so it's tough to sleep with your windows open as the street is very busy at night (and garbage comes at 2a!). It didn't bother us, but if you're a light sleeper, it's worth noting, especially if your unit doesn't have AC and you like the cross breeze. No pack n play in units, you need to rent them or bring your own.We'll be back again and again to this special place.

Makani Sands was a true home away from home and will now be our go-to when on Maui going forward. Tammy made the arrangements so easy and communicating with her was a charm. Upon our arrival in Maui, we had planned to stay in Kihei for a period before heading to Honolowai and when those plans didn’t turn out as we’d hoped we reached out to Tammy who helped us make arrangements to book into Makani. She made it all so easy. We felt so welcome. The condo was wonderful. The unit was fabulous. A/C would have been nice but we understand that the price would have been different. The fans worked well and all in all we were delighted.

A sign “Paradise Found” greets you upon arrival into the condo. So true! My friend and I had a wonderful time. Everything we needed was available - except the Microwave did not work. A minor inconvenience for sure. We love eating on the patio and the BBQ ‘s were clean and easy to use. We can recommend this property easily. We absolutely loved our stay. My son and I were in the water directly behind the unit as much as we could. It was amazing having turtles swim by while we were playing in the water. The unit has beautiful views and is in a great location. We cooked out on the grills and enjoyed the island air. The only drawback on the unit we stayed in was no air conditioning for sleeping, but the weather was nice and it wasn't much of an issue. I noticed some of the other units have AC, so might upgrade to one of those next time. Loved staying there and already longing to go back.

Great Location ! Ocean about 15 yards away. Enjoyed the 3 bedroom ocean front rental. Close to coffee shops, cafes and walking distance to the food trucks. The turtles pass through the water in front of our condo and see them clearly from the lanai, snorkeled with the turtles in front of our condo. Apartment is a little dated but very comfortable. Manager Tammy and Debbie were responsive to our needs and allowed us a little later checkout at 12:30 pm.
I feel it offers great value to a family like us with 6 adults

We were so looking forward to this stay, especially after an 8 hour flight delay, but we arrived late at night to roaches in the kitchen. They ranged from large, to small, to tiny baby ones. We instantly knew there was a roach problem. I sent a video to the owner and didn’t receive a response until the next day after I re-initiated a conversation. Her first response was- “you can’t get a refund for bugs, it’s in the rental agreement”. I took her word and felt defeated that we’d have to risk bringing roaches home. She did offer to bring pest control in, which they said they did, but that didn’t make it better, they also offered another unit, but that one also had roaches. After pest control we continued seeing roaches on the counters, black splash, coming out from under the oven. It was disgusting and we chose not to really cook there and avoided the kitchen as much as we could. Mind you we did have Littles so there were times we washed everything with hot water and soap to use what we needed. It was an extreme dent to our trip. I wish I advocated more and fought for a refund and honestly just left after the first night because we weren’t comfortable. Coming home from our trip, we left all our baggage wrapped in bags and ended up washing all our clothes at a laundromat to prevent any roaches coming into our house. I wish they took necessary steps to fumigate the building before allowing guests to stay. We saved up for this vacay 5 years and find it unfair to host families.

We loved our stay at this apartment complex and enjoyed very much our unit. Good size for a family of 4 if you want to prioritize ocean view over 2 bedrooms at this price level.
The building was well maintained and the unit had a very thoughtful and warm Hawaiian decor. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and spices and it was very easy to cook there. The balcony faced the ocean and the pictures are real, you are practically in the water with an amazing view of the Molokai island. We saw turtles basically everyday when we stayed in the month of June. The only part I did not like was to stay only 4 nights there! We can’t wait to get back. Enjoy this paradise responsibly!

We came to Maui to attend our son’s wedding and wanted a base to operate from for the 12 days we would be there. We searched for what seemed like months, sharing with family the possible places. We decided that an ocean front location was best and Makani Sands 3 bedroom oceanfront condo checked all the boxes.
Once arriving, we were excited to find everything about our unit met or exceeded our expectations. The views of the ocean, the cleanliness of the unit, the well stocked kitchen, the extras like beach chairs, a cooler, etc, were all things that made our stay wonderful. The sun shades that you could automatically lower when the sun was low in the sky was very useful. They didn’t block the view but did temper the intensity of the sun.
Makani Sands is a Condo group that takes great pride in its appearance. The cleanliness and freshness of the common areas is top notch. The ocean front patio with chairs, tables and bbq grills are well maintained and constantly kept in good order. There were many unit owners there and they were so welcoming and very helpful in giving advice on places to go and see. They also congregated around sunset each day on the patio to relax, fellowship, and enjoy drinks and maybe use the grills. They would also blow the conch shells at sunset and show us how to do it. Every unit has a couple of shells designed to be blown.
The beach, snorkeling, and daily sea turtle visits were added bonuses. We loved our stay and look forward to returning.

We had a total of 5 families of different sizes and age ranges vacationing together. We rented two units in this same building and it was the perfect spot for us! There was plenty of space inside the units to accommodate everyone. Plenty of seating inside and outside and you just can’t beat the views and how close the beach is. I also loved the neighborhood feel of this location versus being in a more resort-like setting. We had all of the same accommodations with a much more private feel.

The condo is beautiful, maybe better than it looks in the photos. It has a great view. The AC works well and was needed as it was pretty warm when we visited Maui. The beach right outside doesn’t have enough sand to sit on as the water comes right up to a sea wall, but that’s fine because there are lounge chairs right on the property by the beach access. The beach is safe for swimming, has decent snorkeling, and a lot of turtles. I’d stay again if I returned to Maui.
