The property was nice, and affordable for the location and time of year we stayed. The kitchen is very well outfitted and having laundry in the unit is great. There is no air conditioning but that's not a big deal, just opening the windows and patio door lets the ocean breeze in and everythings good. This is a first floor unit and the ocean waves are thirty feet from the patio, the constant sound of the ocean might not be for everyone but I loved it

We loved staying at Matt's place. It has amazing views. We saw whales and turtles swimming by. The neighbors are amazing. Matt is a great host and was always in touch throughout our stay. Would def. recommend his place. As other reviews mention, it might be little noisy if you are a light sleeper, but closing down all the windows reduces the outside noise a lot and would not bother you!

We enjoyed snorkeling right off the property and saw several fish and even turtles swimming around. Although it didn’t have a sandy beach there are several options within a few minutes driving if you are looking for that. We would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I were supposed to visit Maui and stay at this VRBO in September 2023, but when the Lahaina fire happened, we had to reschedule for 2024. We were so happy to be back on the island. The condo was wonderful, and we loved the location. Unfortunately we had to end our vacation early due to a family emergency back home, but we hope to be back again soon.

My husband and I stayed at Makani Sands for our honeymoon and it did NOT disappoint! Everyone was so friendly from staff, to the other residents/visitors. The pool area was well maintained, clean, and heated. Plenty of lounge chairs to sit or lay in the sun or shade. Nice shower area to remove sand from the beaches. Bed was comfy and the whole unit was clean and comfortable. The view from the lanai was wonderful and quiet. Turtles come up to feed each day, and the wall against the waves has tons of other sea life. Grilling area was a super nice touch. Lots of things to do in walking distance as well. Only complaint was not having AC, but luckily the breeze through the windows was enough to cool down at night. The toughest part with that was having the bedroom window next to the stairway open, lots of noise. We will be back to enjoy again!

This is a great rental. Clean, comfortable and had all the amenities you would need. The view was spectacular. Most of the pictures we have of the sunset are taken from the lenai. The bed was comfortable. We loved the AC! It was so convenient that they had beach chairs, a boogie board and a snorkel to borrow, that was over and above.
We would definitely rent this place again. And the property manager was great to work with.

We loved this vacation spot. From coffee on the lanai each morning, margaritas in the afternoon, turtles by the sea wall, and a short walk to “the best cinnamon buns on Maui”, we had a great time. The condo was in a perfect location as we didn’t drive. A 20 minute walk got us to restaurants, grocery stores, and souvenir shopping. The condo had everything we needed.

Amazing location, quiet and peaceful for the most part. Our specific unit, 101, was quite dirty and cluttered with stuff. The closests were full of random things for maintenance. There is also NO air conditioner which was unclear at booking. The grounds are nice- great ocean access for snorkeling, BBQs with a sunset view and the pool was fun for the kids. The view from your unit will be amazing and you are likely to see turtles swimming by. The emoloyees were all pleasant and helpful and they keep the grounds clean. Fellow guests can make or break your stay as this is a small complex. Great neighbors at the beginning of our stay followed by a nightmare group including some staying directly above us in 201 and 301 the last nights of our stay. Yelling outside our unit to one another during quiet hours and smoking at the non smoking property. Overall I would recommend staying here and note that all the units are unique so pick one that has what you are looking for.

You can tell this is not the staff's first rodeo, as every question we had for referrals, and operations were promptly answered and excellent! We have stayed at Makani Sands in #201 a handful of times ...definitely it has become “a home away from home”. The unit is perfect for the two of us, and the A/C is ideal for relief from the intense heat. The kitchen is adequately supplied, however, it could eventually use some newer cookware. The owner has indicated plans to replace the sleeper sofa in the living room, which would be another awesome upgrade. We must say, Mahalo to Tammy, Debbie, and Rick, all wonderful overseers of Makani Sands, as well as Mahalo to Mariano and his team that provide housekeeping service to Makani. Also, we highly recommend Mala Ocean Tavern for top notch food and service. Planning to book again several times in 2025, our favorite place on Maui, Makani Sands!

Makani Sands is a special place. It's intimate in size, stunning in views and generous in amenities. Pros: location, size of units, VIEW, swim friendly beach right in front, great heated pool, beach chairs (no umbrella in our unit) and beach towels in great condition! in-unit washer/dryer which is very handy and comfy bed! I cannot stress the beauty of having your lanai and the waves crashing under you with the sun setting so beautifully. The BBQ area is also wonderful! So many great things to say about Makani, the cons don't even matter :)Cons: it can be very noisy in the back of the units which are street side. a bedroom is usually on this side, so it's tough to sleep with your windows open as the street is very busy at night (and garbage comes at 2a!). It didn't bother us, but if you're a light sleeper, it's worth noting, especially if your unit doesn't have AC and you like the cross breeze. No pack n play in units, you need to rent them or bring your own.We'll be back again and again to this special place.

Makani Sands was a true home away from home and will now be our go-to when on Maui going forward. Tammy made the arrangements so easy and communicating with her was a charm. Upon our arrival in Maui, we had planned to stay in Kihei for a period before heading to Honolowai and when those plans didn’t turn out as we’d hoped we reached out to Tammy who helped us make arrangements to book into Makani. She made it all so easy. We felt so welcome. The condo was wonderful. The unit was fabulous. A/C would have been nice but we understand that the price would have been different. The fans worked well and all in all we were delighted.

A sign “Paradise Found” greets you upon arrival into the condo. So true! My friend and I had a wonderful time. Everything we needed was available - except the Microwave did not work. A minor inconvenience for sure. We love eating on the patio and the BBQ ‘s were clean and easy to use. We can recommend this property easily. The ocean, the turtles, the pool, the view, the clean condo and grounds. Who could want more? Thanks to the condo owners for sharing. It is a beautiful place.

Waking up to the ocean view was incredible! The property was quiet and peaceful after all our sight seeing around the island. I really appreciated having the cooler, beach chairs and boogie board. We absolutely loved our stay. My son and I were in the water directly behind the unit as much as we could. It was amazing having turtles swim by while we were playing in the water. The unit has beautiful views and is in a great location. We cooked out on the grills and enjoyed the island air. The only drawback on the unit we stayed in was no air conditioning for sleeping, but the weather was nice and it wasn't much of an issue. I noticed some of the other units have AC, so might upgrade to one of those next time. Loved staying there and already longing to go back.

This was a perfect home base for our family vacation to Maui. Plenty of space for two adults and two teens. Unit was clean and well equipped. Views were outstanding and the snorkeling and turtle watching from the beach on property was perfect. We preferred it to other beach “hotspots” on the island.
