Shower and patio weren’t clean. Pool was closed and had been for awhile and we weren’t told. Homeless man sleeping and sitting on the front steps. People using barbecue we’re putting their garbage in our bucket that was used to catch water from the AC . I cleaned everything up. Also left a tip for the next person t who cleans the room. Maybe that will encourage them to do a better job.

Stayed here for a long weekend with my family. Super easy check in and check out process, no issues with the property. It’s an older building but well maintained and our little apartment was clean. Lots of extra linens too. Kitchen was perfect for cooking breakfast, etc. Close to lots of shops, restaurants and the beach. Highly recommended!

This unit was perfect, exactly what my family needed. Both my kids were happy they got their own beds and my wife and I were very comfy in the master bed. Check in was easy, no problems…minor toilet issue was fixed by owner same day we discovered it and it caused zero inconvenience. The bar and surrounding area are a lil loud, but nothing to ruin your sleep. Parking along the canal was a chore, but always doable. Highly recommend

This unit has everything you need and is in an excellent location. The Maragame Udon restaurant is right around the corner and the best value for great food probably in Waikiki. Like some other reviews have said, the bar downstairs sits right below the unit. Wasn't an issue for us, but may be for others. This is a great value for the location. It's a 7 minute walk to the beach and I carried my surfboard back and forth everyday. Would definitely stay here again.

Everything is great. The place is fully loaded , great location The place is old , you can hear the neighbors from time to time but nothing unbearable. Bed was great! A cloud ☁️ I’ll return here when I’m back

We had the best time, the place is just a few minutes walk to the beach and malls! The swimming pool at the facility was great too!

Great location. Decent sized accommodation. Apartment from the 1960's, I don't have an issue with that but the place probably hasn't been updated in 60 years. Some of of the stains on the woodwork and ceiling should be an embarrassed to the owner. Bed way too hard to have a comfortable sleep. The futon is too uncomfortable to sit on so how anyone could sleep on, who knows.

Hawaiian King is set in a great location. Plenty of options nearby for eateries and shopping. International Market is less than a couple of minutes away. The beach is also a short walk, approximately 7 minutes and the host provides plenty of beach towels to use. The room is a good size for 4 people to stay in. 2 couch beds and a large bed in a separate room. The space is clean and has plenty of room. Our host was always available and responded quickly to any queries.

After arriving tired and hungry we were dissapointed to see the outside condition of building. Thought for sure we had made a mistake. The bar in the lobby was in full swing and people were standing outside smoking various things. The building is older and not what is expected from the condo photos. After getting lock box open and making our way upstairs it was such a relief. The condo was exactly as pictured. Very neat and clean. we had no hot water in bathroom sink and very low water pressure as well. Hot water was great in shower and kitchen. WIFI did not support multiple devices. Overall great stay and location !

This was my fifth time to be in Hawai’i on the island of Oahu. The one good thing is there was a bidet. When I asked the property manager to ensure it was clean for my arrival, he offered to give me a full refund for his amount but he doesn’t likely realize there are fees of more than $1000.00USD that would not have been refunded. I bought cleaners, a mop, Lysol wipes and cleaned the best I could so it was liveable as I was there for one month. This was the most expensive and the worst experience. The garbage trucks woke us every morning at 5:00am, the bar was sometimes noisy, the restaurant staff next door were loud and noisy(pots and pans clanging) The patio doors didn’t shut properly so it was like we were outside and when the wind blew, they rattled all night.

Nice place to stay! Good area to stay in. Close to the beach, zoo, hikes, grocery stores, etc. There is a bar in the building so it can be kinda loud at night. Also garbage disposal people come very early in the morning. Could’ve been a little cleaner. Had to provide own toilet paper after you use the amount they provide.

I have been to all Hawaiian islands many times over many years and stayed in many places. If you have not been lately the prices generally are very high so this year we wanted to find something more in a budget range that still had excellent access to Waikiki. In that regard this VRBO was a great fit and as expected and accurately advertised. Pros: close to everything in Waikiki. Affordable. Recently refurbished and literally is the first time I’ve been to a unit with new sharp knives, a new toaster, new blender, brand new bed sheets and a clean effective AC unit and very comfortable king size bed. Cons or Trade offs: Parking-you need to be prepared to look for parking (best is free all along Ala Wai Blvd.; but you have to move it Friday and Monday mornings); if you can’t find it on a nearby side street after a couple of loops, you best pay the $60 overnight at the International Market Place and just accept that. We only had to resort to that once in 20 days. But it’s a bit annoying. No car; no problem. Noise-it’s a noisy spot; there’s a couple of taverns in the building, some nights a hot dog vendor out front with a generator and a lot of garbage trucks. That said, windows closed, earplugs at night, was a non issue for us. We were not there to sit on the deck, we were there to get outdoors and literally the main drag is 30 steps away. Steven was a great host. If you’re looking for upscale look elsewhere. If you’re looking for budget I highly recommend for a couple.

My partner and I stayed at this property for 1 week. The contactless check in went smoothly but upon entering the unit, we realized that it was not clean. There were ants in the kitchen due to crumbs left behind, the refrigerator smelled like fish and the toilet was dirty. There was no hot water in the bathroom sink and very little hot water in the shower. There was also a leak underneath the bathroom sink and a bowl strategically placed under the sink to catch the dripping water which tells me this host was aware of the leak prior to our stay. Although we received a great price for this rental compared to other accommodations in the area, we would have much rather paid more money for a more comfortable stay. The location was great and walkable but we will not be staying here again.

December 2023

This property had all the essentials (wifi, laundry, kitchen/cooking supplies, and a balcony with a view of the island mountains) and was very close to the beach and all of the activities in Waikiki. The shower pressure as mentioned was very low which meant a little more planning in getting ready due to longer showers but it was terrible. Would recommend for someone looking for a simple stay option in Waikiki.

Great location, spacy place, awesome communication with the owner, earlier and late check out without problems! Recommend for young people due to the location in the center. Cons - parking (we did two blocks away at Ross, 12$ voucher then comes to $33 per 24hrs). Apartment comes with all - very well equipped kitchen, beach towels, beach chairs, sharp knives! 👍 ..... Could be a little cleaner (sorry). The water pressure is really bad but it is an old building and not the owners fault. It worked fine for us! Overall great!

August 2023

The place is nice inside but the building is very dated. The only truly bad thing is the water pressure. It is awful and if you have long hair you will need to fill a jug with water to rinse your hair. It’s an old building in Waikiki. If you are going to Waikiki on budget, which is not a good idea, this is a good place. I knew what I was getting into so I wasn’t shocked. There were also a lot fruit flies even though I didn’t have food. I was by myself on business so it was ok. If I had taken a girlfriend, I would have had a problem on my hands.

July 2023

We stayed for 2 weeks while visiting family and needed something close by and affordable. This place worked for us as it met both criteria. And it has A/C that actually cools the whole place! Nothing super nice or overly clean…it did the job. A few things to note though: the water pressure is terrible (due to the age of the building), a few things were broken or needed fixed (nothing major), and the unit is right over the downstairs bar, so we had many nights of listening to loud drunken rants and yelling, even over our sound machine. That being said, the location is convenient to many things and the price was right.

Check in process was very easy. Host communicated very quickly with any concerns I had. I liked that there was an alarm system. The bed and couch beds were extremely comfortable. Overall enjoyed my stay and would absolutely love to come back another time!

June 2023

The place was exactly like the pictures. I wish it were a little cleaner as I found hair in the shower and the building it’s in is quite old and needs renovations. The place also smelt like cigarettes and I don’t believe it was the property itself but, coming in from the outside. As far as location goes you are in downtown Waikiki so, great access to the beach and places to shop. Also VRBO doesn’t do a great job stating that there is no parking for that particular building so, prepare to pay for overnight in a parking garage nearby.

Condo is literally in the center of Waikiki and so close to all the restaurants and bars it has to offer. The photos and description are exactly as noted in the listing and the bed was very comfortable. The full kitchen and dining table were also a nice feature of the unit.

My parter and I stayed a week at the Hawaiian King in May 2023. The building is classic, old-school Hawaii. The courtyard and pool area is a nice place to enjoy morning coffee. The unit is updated and clean. The included amenities were great! Keurig for coffee and plenty of beach towels, mats, boogie boards and chairs for the beach. If you like the hustle and bustle of Waikiki but want your own little getaway, this is your spot. We will definitely be back!

Great access to beach and shopping

March 2023

The actual unit is nice. The description is exactly what the property is. The building is classic 1958 Hawaii. It's surrounded by high end hotels and resorts with high end shopping and dining. This building is not high end though. It's classic and dated, like me. Which, I thought was perfect for our vacation accommodations. Besides, it's Hawaii. You should only need a place to sleep.

This place is even better than the online listing makes it out to be! The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could want - rice cooker, food processor, mixing bowls, everything you might use it’s there. There is a beach umbrella and boogie boards in the closet. Beach towels! Extra linens. Right next to everything! This is one of the best rentals I’ve done.

January 2023

Although this property is in an amazing location, there is no way it can comfortably sleep four people without some maneuvering. We are a family of four and my husband and I had to take turns sleeping in the only bed available with our kids to get some kind of rest. The futon couch is not meant to be slept on nightly. I think this location would be best for two adults only. The entrance is also the entrance to a bar, so you will be passing through a cloud of cigarette smoke when you come in at the end of the day. Parking required effort, nightly, but we did find some. Overall, it served it’s purpose for this trip, but we will not be staying here again.

Good location, fine apt, cute lanai. But if you plan to do any remote working here, forget about it. Very slow WiFi, and not a true one bedroom(no sound separation between “bedroom” and “living room”). Also the sink in the bathroom doesn’t drain well at all

April 2021

Enjoyed are stay. Unit was comfortable & quiet. The lightning in the bathroom needs to be improved.

March 2020

The good news is that the location is great and there were no bugs that I saw anywhere (whew!). It is not as nice as the photos appear (dirtier and more run down, as others have noted), and the futon is only usable by a single child, and not comfortable even for him. My 10 and 12 year old boys fit on the futon together only if neither moved--it was too narrow! It's not even 5 feet long--my 12 year old could not lie down straight--he had to go diagonal. One kid ended up on the very hard and cold linoleum floor for the week--cranky the whole time. The 10-year old slept on one side of the futon since the crack was so uncomfortable, but it was so flimsy that it flipped over and he was on the floor (his brother got a good laugh, anyway!). They have an air mattress in the place, but no one could blow it up (they said someone had left it--I can see why!). Sad--there is plenty of floor space. If the owners spent $100 bucks and got an air mattress w/ pump, this would be usable for 4. They did provide sheets for it. I understand that you get what you pay for, but there were a few things that could have made the experience much better. 1. They didn't meet us at the place ontime, even though we sent flight info and talked to him when our flight landed. My boys and I sat in the lobby and listened to the drunks curse while we waited to get in. Not sure why they wouldn't leave the key in the lock box. Not a fun start or good impression. 2. The sheets were old and gross. I like to camp and am not afraid of dirt, but when we pulled off the comforter, the grey sheets looked like someone had sweated all over them and left the stain. I think they were washed--just old and gross. 3.Only 2 pillows were provided for the 4 of us, and even after I asked, they just supplied two clean pillow cases for us to put on top of the decorator pillows on the master bed. Again, kind of gross. Those decorator pillows have had many greasy heads. We paid $$ for our week's stay--they couldn't get a couple of new $5 pillows? 4. The toilet really rocks. Really? Just go tighten the darn thing down already! I was afraid to walk in there for fear of leaks. The rest was kind of in keeping with the age and condition of the place. The dive bar out front attracted many foul-mouthed, drunken men and it looked like some homeless folks hung out near by (along with druggies?). You do get what you pay for, but this was under the professional meter. With a little more attention, it would be fine.

February 2019

The property was a great location and a decent price! It’s not as clean as it appears in the photos, wasn’t thoroughly cleaned by their housekeeping. Floors were swept/vacuumed but your socks told the truth about how clean it truly was, etc...But the staff on site were very helpful and prompt in responding to our text messages to fix other issues that came up! Especially considering that it was a holiday weekend. For the great location and price, it was overall a good low cost stay. Be prepared to spend about $20/day for parking though and the futon is not a comfortable bed for an adult (felt framework poking through cushions), but okay for small kids to sleep on I think. :)
