Should I book a villa or a resort hotel?

For a family or a group, usually a villa or home: two to six bedrooms with their own baths, a full kitchen and a private lanai, often for less than the equivalent hotel rooms. A hotel wins on daily housekeeping, room service and having a restaurant downstairs.

Do Kauai luxury rentals have air conditioning?

Most do. A few oceanfront condos at Whalers Cove, Poipu Shores and Puu Poa, and some North Shore beach houses, rely on the trade winds instead. If it matters, select Air conditioning in Search Filters.

When should I book?

As early as you can. There are only a few dozen luxury rentals on the island, and the best North Shore beach houses and Poipu pool homes are often booked many months ahead for summer and the holidays.
